This thread is for members to nominate novellas for the Award for Best Novella. In order for a title to be eligible for nomination it must simply be one of Stephen King's published works; titles published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman are also eligible.

To nominate a title for this category, simply post your choice in this thread. In order for a title to be placed onto the voting ballot for the Award the nominated title must be seconded and thirded, also in this thread. This is to ensure that we do not have an overly long list of contenders for the Award, and that--by virtue of the nomination process--each title listed on the ballot is guaranteed to have at least something of a following come voting time. Please note that you MUST clearly state in your post that you are seconding or thirding a nomination for it to count. Feel free to deliberate and discuss your choices in this thread.

While you may second or third a nomination more than once, we ask that there be only one new nomination per member.

I'll second The Langoliers. I liked the concept a lot, especially...

..how the concept of the past literally disappearing out of existence contrasts most other King concepts of time (especially DT).

Jean

Everything Eventual is a short story, not a novella (I have added the list of novellas to the first post).

Nominate Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. Fourth The Body.

ManOfWesternesse

Looks like I have to consult higher authorities. The Gingerbread Girl isn't on the list I gave, and, what is worse, neither is Little Sisters of Eluria, which is obviously, blatantly a novella (nobody would tolerate a short story that long). Don't worry, no nomination will be lost; I only need some time to make sure which is which.

Fifth The Body.

Jean, try going by the list I linked to at Wikipedia. It seems better than the official one.

P.S.: Shawshank seconded, of course.

I'm inclined to think the same now. I'll attend to this first thing tomorrow morning, Moscow time, if nothing happens to the server.

I nominate the short story, that is apparently a novelette  - Everything's Eventual.

Aaron
12-18-2008, 07:41 AM
If there are any that are still questionable, Jean, PM a list to me and I can research them according to word count. Anything 20,000 words - 49,999 words is technically a novella/novelette.

Excellent service around here - you get it BEFORE you ask for it!

Jean

Yes. There are even some time warps and loops, when nominations have to be moved from thread to thread and then back. Sometimes it creates paradoxes.

ummmm. hi. everything's eventual has actually been thirded. i nominated it, jayson seconded, and sam thirded back on 12/17 before the whole short story vs. novella controversy started. so actually, i guess that means it has four now right?

Jean
12-19-2008, 02:06 AM
That's what I meant. There are some little inconsistencies I am putting in order now, all connected with Novellas vs. Short Stories thing. Just give me a couple more minutes, ok?

(actually, Everything's Eventual has been fourthed, because Lisa's vote went there, too)

Of course I will. I will go through all that tomorrow again, with a fresh eye, and taking into account what pablo PMed to me.

Cool. I would imagine your eyes are getting a little red right now. Bears are not known for their energetic nature this time of year. Or their sunny dispositions, at least that's what my wife says. From one bear to another, catch some rest.

Jean

I've always felt you understood bears!

Well, I think it is all right now - but I am going to have a few very busy day ahead of me (actually, starting yesterday), so if anyone sees something wrong, let me know without hesitation, I may overlook something - although I'll be trying not to. Also, there's still some disagreement as to what is novella and what is short story, but so far nothing dubious has been nominated, and I think it would be better to attend to every such case separately (should they arise) than to decide it now in principle, and then reconsider the whole establishment.
