View Full Version : Best Short Story - Nominations Closed
This thread is for members to nominate short stories for the Award for Best Short Story. In order for a title to be eligible for nomination it must simply be one of Stephen King's published works; titles published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman are also eligible.
To nominate a title for this category, simply post your choice in this thread. In order for a title to be placed onto the voting ballot for the Award the nominated title must be seconded and thirded, also in this thread. This is to ensure that we do not have an overly long list of contenders for the Award, and that--by virtue of the nomination process--each title listed on the ballot is guaranteed to have at least something of a following come voting time. Please note that you MUST clearly state in your post that you are seconding or thirding a nomination for it to count. Feel free to deliberate and discuss your choices in this thread.
While you may second or third a nomination more than once, we ask that there be only one new nomination per member.
For reference, see wiki: Short fiction by Stephen King (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_fiction_by_Stephen_King) (with the exception of N which we consider to be a novella)
Nona from Skeleton Crew! My all-time favorite King short story.

Seconding "All That You Love Will Be Carried Away"
Nominating "The Body". I know technically it's a novella so if the Different Seasons stories are not counted as short stories, let me know and I will nominate something else.

I love that story. I also knew you'd be nominating it (I pay attention to things you've said in other threads)
To aid folks in making their decision, here's a thorough listing I found:

The Body has to be nominated in the novella category.

Okey dokey, and thanks Pablo, I suspected that might be the case with "The Body".
In that case, I nominate "Lunch at the Gotham Café"
Lunch at the Gotham Café seconded!

Café thirded. What a great, crazy story.
I worked in a lot of kitchens in a lot of restaurants (including during the time when I was reading E.E.). I could see it happening quite easily.
Speaking of short stories, I find it a tad odd that King writes in his Just After Sunset intro that "Willa" was the story that spurred the output that resulted in this collection, but it was published in 2006. "The Things They Left Behind", "Stationary Bike", "Rest Stop", and "Harvey's Dream" all came before it.

Nominate "N".
N is a novella, according to StephenKing.com (http://www.stephenking.com/library/novella/) (I added the list of novellas to my first post in Novellas thread)
pablo: if there are discrepancies between wiki and StephenKing.com, we'll choose the latter, ok?

Had a look.
N. is listed as a Short Story published in Sunset
N is listed as a Novella (Uncollected)
?wtf?
And HOW can Little Sisters be listed as a Short Story & not a Novellette?
These questions have been haunting me since dawn. I'm consulting higher authorities now.

I nominate Everything's Eventual.
N. should be listed as a novella or a novelette indeed. It's listed as a short story in that Wikipedia article though, but that's a rare inconsistency. Otherwise it seems correct. Eventual is a novelette and is listed as such by Wiki, so that's also the same category

They're all just so good. I'd forgotten how much I loved Mrs. Todd's Shortcut 'till I looked at the list, so I'm gonna nominate that one.

Dear friends,
I have edited the list of novellas in the first post of Best Novella thread (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showpost.php?p=304564&postcount=1), adding N and all those listed as novellas in the wiki article, as pablo recommended.
Brian: I will count in your vote for N. in that thread.
Brian and Lisa: you still have one nomination for short story each.

Nobody wants to nominate any short story from JAS?
Hannah

Wasn't "N" from JAS? :orely:
The only one I've liked so far was Gingerbread Girl (I think that's what it was called). I'm not nominating that though, I'm saving my nomination for something else. I have to get the title though. :panic:

Nominate
Dolan's Cadillac
I could be mistaken, someone more knowledgeable will confirm or deny, but I think "Dolan's Cadillac" is a novelette: longer than a short story, but not long enough for a novella.
