Um...wasn't it 1987, not 1984?

I believe the Viking was '87 and the Philtrum Press one was '84. I may be wrong though.

The Viking edition, which is pictured, was released in 1987, but the true first edition was released in 1984 by Philtrum Press. It just didn't have a cool cover, so I used the more commonly known edition's image.

And the 1987 edition had been revised for what I understand. How extensively I don't know.

I would dearly love to own the original printing of this book. It is one of my favorites stories period, and I would really like to read the original tale.

Loved it a lot. King is good at writing books to children. If I ever have one I will read out this one for them.

Dear BROWNING'S CHILDE, please forget the Caps Lock for awhile. Thanks. :)

Only a "2"; could have been "1", but there are a few nice pages - namely, about that horse.

wow letti. You must be really bored with the polling if all you can contribute is a comment about my offensive capital letters. Just for you I'll try to take it off. I work in a program that requires caps, and I go back and forth between work and the forum.

Bored? Interesting idea. :)
If not me someone else would have said. I didn't mean to be rude or anything (I hope I wasn't).
Thank you for turning it off. Hope to see you all around the board.

I think this book has a feel all its own. He wrote the book for his kid, and intended it to be on their level. So the story is told in a much more straight forward manner with a more digestable vocabulary. It is also a little censured. So, I think to really enjoy the book you should read it through a childs eyes.

Everyone who thinks SK is just a horror writer and no more (like so many people around me) should read this book.

Fortunate for me that I have a pair in a jar in my bedroom for just such books. I got them from the same guy who supplied Sai King. (For those who don't remember, King once said he had the heart of a small child... in a jar on his desk.)

Mate, theres no need to be impolite. Letti is a moderator and it's part of our job to remark on these things.

Back to the book, I gave a 5. I love fairy tales and for me this is on a par with Gaiman's Stardust.

It was written as a children's book and it does exceedingly well as a children's book of the fantasy genre.

This book does very well for its genre, but on the whole, it wasn't my favorite.
