Indeed. One of my personal Top 10 of King's. I'd be crushed if this didn't at the very least move out Round 1.

This is his best collection imo. Every story hit the mark for me. I have yet to read one of his collections and not found a story I didn't like. Granted, this only had four stories, but each one was a good one.

5. The Body is possibly my favourite King story.

I don't like Apt Pupil at all, but the other 3 stories are phenomenal.

Gave it a 5. The Body is also one of my favourite short stories and the most touching by far.

Loved "Shawshank Redemtion" as well as "The Body". I was least impressed with "The Breathing Method", though still considered it a worthwhile read. I felt like "Apt Pupil" was reminiscent of the "Bachman" style.

Sure they can :) Well, not all but I'm planning on giving out about a dozen if not more 5s.

A five if ever there was one. Unlike some others, I actually found Apt Pupil quite good. All four of the stories are very well-conceived and well-written. They stand alone well and work well as a whole. I can't really think of anything I don't like about this collection.

I don't dislike Apt Pupil from a critical point of view, I'm just don't enjoy reading stories about psychotic characters like Todd, because the unpredictablilty makes me too nervous to get into the story

5 from me on this one. The Body ranks within my top 3 King stories.

Really? I'm in the "the crazier, the better" camp.

It depends. Like, Black House for example I had no problem with. But Apt Pupil and a Lionel Shriver book called, We Need To Talk About Kevin - both made me feel really uncomfortable when I read them.

It's odd. If you saw most of the books on my shelves you probably wouldn't assume I felt that way at all

It's, you know, matter of taste, only backassward. I was sure there's nothing in literature I couldn't bravely stand until I read Blaze. I am very easy to touch, I cry over books like a girl (happens to bears all the time), but it's always some, you know, positive feeling... catharsis and all that... while I can read stories of sadism and perversion and molesting and psychotics without turning a hair... but Blaze hurt me on some deep level I didn't even know existed; to such extent that I'm afraid another such book could kill me.

I'm so glad you said that, Jean. I found Blaze very, very difficult too. I didn't properly finish it the first time, I had to go back and reread at a later date with a more "prepared" frame of mind :couple:

Blaze has been sitting on my shelf waiting to be read since it was released. I need to get to it soon, but I could tell from reading the first bit that it might be a tough one--and I am not someone who is easily affected by most any book.

Well, King did describe it in his intro as a "weepie". You had been duly warned.

Loved it! It was amongst my first King reads, in the sixth grade.

This is King at his best. Had Shawshank and The Body been full length novels they would have been mainstream bestsellers and SK would have his coveted book awards. Personally I would love to see him move away from horror, fantasy and the like and write the next great American novel.

He has already written the next great american novel I think. it just takes a bit of time (decades/certuries) for the literary critics to catch up with what's great.

I am about 40 pages from the end of Blaze right now, I assume the weepie, dark, hurtfull part is yet to come, cant wait to get home from work and finish.
