Start with me, that’s easy. How could you ask for more?
So add in the Apostles and we’ll hit the disco floor.
Less one, of course, for Judas, and you’ll find when you are done
That that’s when Beast gets married and he married the “Born Eighth” one.
Three times eight is twenty four, add it on just like I’ve said
Sadness sweeps around the world because the King is dead!
Take one away for sorrow but music’s bound to win
You’ve all the slide trumpets accounted for, so let the march begin
Take me away, save one, and what’s left goes on the right
On the left, place the Apostles (sans traitor Judas, who’s not in sight)
Separate left and right by a colon which magically appears
And when you’ve finished reading then you’ll find the Master’s tears
Remove Apostles and the colon; add lucky seven, to be fair
And you’ll find me, beneath the rainbow, waiting for you there.

Simon Peter
Andrew
James
John
Philip
Bartholomew
Thomas
Matthew
James
Labbaeus (Thaddaeus)
Simon
Judas Iscariot

okay, so those are the apostles. and the eighth is Matthew. but if you remove Judas Iscariot then you can probably add in Mattias who would've been next in the line.

or is this totally a numbers thing and i'm way off track?

...*brain explodes*

For some reason, I just can't follow the wording on this one...my mind keeps on slipping.

It is totally a numbers thing and you're way off track. ;)

if it is a numbers thing then:

11 apostles (12 - judas iscariot) plus 24 (he married the eighth born one and 3 times eight is twenty-four) so that equals 35. take one away for sorrow equals 34.

take me away, save one, what's left goes on the right would be 33

on the left place the apostles minus judas equals 11 and then put a colon

11 : 33

matthew, chapter 11, verse 33?

remove apostles and : add 7 equals 40 what's this? another verse?

The logic sounds right to me, ts.

Hmmm, fuzzy math...
Each line in the riddle refers to the first line, plus whatever has happened to the number previously.

12 Apostles (11 w/o Judas) is correct.

Not sure about this next bit:
11 apostles (12 - judas iscariot) plus 24 (he married the eighth born one and 3 times eight is twenty-four) so that equals 35. take one away for sorrow equals 34.

Matthew only has 30 verses in Chapter 11. (http://www.htmlbible.com/kjv30/B40C011.htm)

***In my best Regis Philben voice*** Is that your FINAL answer? :)

The Lady of Shadows

definitely not my final answer. see what happens when you let a jew into the new testament? :wtf:

Start with me, that’s easy. How could you ask for more? 1 (archangel gabriel? neither here nor there really.)

So add in the Apostles and we’ll hit the disco floor. 12 apostles

Less one, of course, for Judas, and you’ll find when you are done so 11 apostles

That that’s when Beast gets married and he married the “Born Eighth” one. Matthew is the 8th apostle isn't he?

Three times eight is twenty four, add it on just like I’ve said 12 (11 apostles plus the one we started with) plus 24 is 36

Sadness sweeps around the world because the King is dead! so should i subtract one for the dead king do you think?

Take one away for sorrow but music’s bound to win so 35 (36-1)

You’ve all the slide trumpets accounted for, so let the march begin

Take me away, save one, and what’s left goes on the right

On the left, place the Apostles (sans traitor Judas, who’s not in sight) 11 on the left

Separate left and right by a colon which magically appears

And when you’ve finished reading then you’ll find the Master’s tears

Remove Apostles and the colon; add lucky seven, to be fair

And you’ll find me, beneath the rainbow, waiting for you there.

I would have thought the "me" at the beginning was Jesus, which also accounts for the "King is dead" comment--he was crucified.

Still not sure if that's right because I still haven't a clue, but I really want to see where this goes....

Start with me, that’s easy. How could you ask for more?0? My thoughts were along the lines that you could ask for "nothing" more. But 1 works equally as well.

76?

Okay, a lot going on so I will try my best to cover it all...

Start with me, that’s easy. How could you ask for more? 1 (archangel gabriel? neither here nor there really.) No, neither Gabriel or Jesus. Not a person at all. A number but not 1.

So add in the Apostles and we’ll hit the disco floor. 12 apostles Yes, 12 + the number is a clue to solve this mini-riddle. ;)

Less one, of course, for Judas, and you’ll find when you are done so 11 apostles 11 apostles + the first amount answers the next line...or gives you a clue to the answer to the next line.

That that’s when Beast gets married and he married the “Born Eighth” one. Matthew is the 8th apostle isn't he? Not sure about Matthew, but neither the Beast nor the one "Born Eighth" refers to him.

Three times eight is twenty four, add it on just like I’ve said 12 (11 apostles plus the one we started with) plus 24 is 36
24 + the number so far is NOT 36.

Sadness sweeps around the world because the King is dead! so should i subtract one for the dead king do you think?
The King in question is a real person, dead or alive. The right number (the number so far) gives a clue to a dead king.

Take one away for sorrow but music’s bound to win so 35 (36-1)
Nope, Jon had mentioned 76, which is correct for this and the next line.
You’ve all the slide trumpets accounted for, so let the march begin

Take me away, save one, and what’s left goes on the right

On the left, place the Apostles (sans traitor Judas, who’s not in sight) 11 on the left That is correct!

Separate left and right by a colon which magically appears

And when you’ve finished reading then you’ll find the Master’s tears
"matthew, chapter 11, verse 33" is not the right chapter and verse, although you are thinking along the right lines ;)

Remove Apostles and the colon; add lucky seven, to be fair

And you’ll find me, beneath the rainbow, waiting for you there.
Even the rainbow clue has meaning. ;)

Start with me, that’s easy. How could you ask for more?0? My thoughts were along the lines that you could ask for "nothing" more. But 1 works equally as well.

The first is a number but not 1 or 0.

If 76 is correct, does that mean the dead king is Elvis? He died in 1977....

That would suggest the "number so far" before it was 53, as 53 + 24 = 77.

I don't know about the Beast marrying the "Born Eighth" one....

But if it's 11 plus the number, I would think 42 (42 + 11 = 53).

So take me away save one would mean taking away 41, which means 35 goes on the right....

And adding lucky seven would give 42 again....

IS the original number 42?

Yes, John_and_Yoko, you have reasoned it out. 42 is the correct answer! I read in another thread that Jon was dissapointed that he missed a riddle that referenced "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" so I threw this together.

42 geese to you, my friend! Congratulations!!!!

76?

See, that's what confuses me. I've heard of slide trombones, but what the heck is a slide TRUMPET?

I beleive that a trombone is a type of trumpet.

Now I'm leaving...with my towel!

Final answers:

1) So add in the Apostles and we’ll hit the disco floor. 12 42+12=54=Studio 54

2) That that’s when Beast gets married and he married the “Born Eighth” one.
53 is the right number...what is the reference? Nero (aka "The Beast") married Octavia (which means "Born Eighth") in 53

4) beneath the rainbow The angle of the sun to make a rainbow=42 degrees

Congrats to John_and_Yoko!
