Figured we get one going on these, they are a fun read anyway.

We should have a list of everything they discovered:

Karen - Matt is talking about the Earth Children's series by Jean Auel. They are Clan of the Cave Bear, Valley of Horses, The Mammoth Hunters, Plains of Passage, and Shelters of Stone.

I learned how to give a blow job from Jean Auel.

Other stuff discovered in the series:
spear shooter (yes, I know we don't use it now)
Iron pyrite and flint = spark to make fire
How babies are really made

Matt
07-12-2007, 10:35 AM
Oh yeah, that baby thing was huge.

And really, thank Bob for the oral sex thing. Humanity really needed that.

splint
lean to
racial acceptance

Hannah
07-12-2007, 10:39 AM
The racial acceptance thing made me laugh.

Herbal heart medications (and others)
Training lions for the circus
baking flint to make it easier to work into tools

sarajean

art
baking clay to use for bowls/plates/etc
dying hides to make them more aesthetically pleasing
makeup

Matt
07-12-2007, 01:33 PM
By far the best of the series imo. Its one of those that is so fun it sucks you in for the rest and you are not sure why

Hannah

i finally saw Clan of the Cavebear the other day. I couldn't help but laugh the whole way through.

Aaron watched it with me and does the whole weird linky finger " i want to have sex" signal now. It's funny.

Matt
07-12-2007, 02:31 PM
:o

I love giving Dora the "signal"

But I never saw the movie, I just made one up from the books.

I decided to stay away from the tongue between fingers thing.

......spear shooter .......

Yeah, the 'spear-thrower' - but also the split-shaft spear (ie. separate long shaft + short front-end with spear-point, which attach together & therefore break less often that full spears).

Another:
The travois - to drag behind a horse enabling you to transport very heavy loads.

Research that I have done in the field shows that Jean Auel teaches an amazing blowjob.

I have never read any of these books.

Unless you need to touch up your blowjob technique I shouldn't worry about it

Matt

I think Dora only read Clan and she wasn't up to blowjobs then but a little coaxing her to call me Jondalar really got it going.

Hannah
07-16-2007, 09:51 AM
 That's such a weird name to call out in passion. "OH Jondalar do me harder!" :P

It is a very important University funded study. I am currently seeking new applicants for the next phase of the study.

That would be a major in "ball grabbing".

I'm actually reading this series for the first time. I'm on book #3. It's pretty good so far. But the thing that always cracks me up is how much Jean Auel likes to use the term "furry mound". I mean come on. I'm surprised she didn't say "Jondalar stroked her whisker biscuit"

Erin
10-11-2007, 10:11 PM

I know! The paelo-porn in that book is crazy.

I think i only read the first three .. the 4th book is called "Plains of Passage" and it was too much for me :)

Hannah
10-21-2007, 07:14 PM
There was some weird shit going on in Plains of Passage. There's this crazy lady who keeps all the men in a pen like animals and stuff. It's good reading.

There's also a three page description of mammoths doing it. Yeah, I said "doing it".

ZoNeSeeK
10-21-2007, 07:49 PM
hahaha .. i wonder what Auel would have done since the adjective "mammoth" couldnt be used in that part.

Matt

"whisker biscuit"

she did surely like that Furry Mound term

when i was all of 13 and reading this series (internet porn wasnt available then) the whole "mound" term was very confusing. I was like "wtf, its a hill???".

Thanks to dear Jean for un-archiving this thread for me. :rose:

As JB informed me earlier, March 29th, 2011 is the release date for the sixth and final book in the Earth's Children series. The most recent book was published in 2002, so I've been waiting forever for this book!

Who else is excited? :nana:

John Blaze
10-28-2010, 02:01 PM
I am, but are we sure it's the final? I always thought there would be 7.

I am excited for it as well, but I hope she cuts WAY back on the sex.

Erin
10-28-2010, 02:03 PM
I went and read an article on it after you told me the release date and it said that she managed to wrap it up in 6, not the 7 she originally intended.

John Blaze
10-28-2010, 02:11 PM
oh ok. :) I guess she got tired of people telling her to finish the book. I hope it doesn't feel rushed.

Bethany

I haven't read Shelters of Stone. :orely: I might read these again so I can read the new one in the spring.

Erin

I was just thinking I needed to do a re-read as well in anticipation for the new book. I read the most recent one YEARS ago.

Jon

I thought I'd fill my car with gas and let it idle in the driveway all Earth day as I reread the series.

Wow - it's actually on the way? - Yes i'm definitely looking forward to it (sex aside it wasa great series).

Almost two years later, but I can say without equivocation that the last book was not worth the price of admission. Too much repetitive descriptions and then too many characters acting out of character. If I ever do a re-read of the series again, it will stop with Shelters of Stone.

Matt
07-17-2012, 05:07 AM
I totally agree. I listened to the damn thing while I was delivering pizza (which seems like another lifetime right now) and it was not worth it at all. I even borrowed it from the library! I understand her goal is to seriously describe how things were back then but I think she may have lost her damn mind.

John Blaze
07-17-2012, 02:50 PM
I thought the last book was totally anticlimactic and meh. It's like she phoned it in to get it over with, and just make the paycheck. Then I again, I think the first 2 books are the best.

Matt
07-18-2012, 05:32 AM
I agree. When I do a "re-read" I pretty much stop on #2. I think her kids should have to battle it out in some kind of cage match to the death.
