View Full Version : Most Frightening Published Work--Nominations Closed

Aaron
11-14-2008, 05:04 PM
This thread is for members to nominate titles (i.e. books, stories, etc.) for the Award for Most Frightening Published Work. In order for a title to be eligible for nomination it must simply be one of Stephen King's published works, including any of his novels, novellas, and short stories. Titles published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman are also eligible.

To nominate a title for this category, simply post your choice in this thread. In order for a title to be placed onto the voting ballot for the Award the nominated title must be seconded and thirded, also in this thread. This is to ensure that we do not have an overly long list of contenders for the Award, and that--by virtue of the nomination process--each title listed on the ballot is guaranteed to have at least something of a following come voting time. Please note that you MUST clearly state in your post that you are seconding or thirding a nomination for it to count. Feel free to deliberate and discuss your choices in this thread.

While you may second or third a nomination more than once, we ask that there be only one new nomination per member.

This is a great category! But so hard to choose. It's easy to nominate Pet Sematary, it scared the crap out of me. But there have been some very unsettling short stories as well.

I'll have to really think about this, and get back :)

Nominating 'Salem's Lot. That one not only scared me, but lots of my friends. My college roommate couldn't sleep for over a week because she kept hearing scratches on the window!

Not nominating it myself (because I haven't read it), but I've seen the movie Misery--the ONLY MOVIE EVER to continue to give me palpitations long after it was over....

I second Regulators.

And though it doesn't seem to be a highly regarded one, I nominate Gerald's Game. That book made my skin crawl, especially:

...what Jessie did to be able to slide her hands out of the cuffs and it being described like peeling an orange...

...and when she saw the pale man in court and he mimicked her.

*shudder*

Only one nomination per member. Which will it be?

The Boogeyman from Night Shift.

I read that back when I was much younger and it still unnerves me to this day to leave closet doors open at night.

I am a 35 year old man . LOL...

Jean if you're curious about it, they did release an animated version over the summer. There's a link to it somewhere in The Oracle. I'm not positive if it works outside the US, but give it a shot.

Are you sure about that? I beg to differ. Books, DVDs, and CDs they ship all over the place. There are restrictions on video games and other stuff.

Take a look: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_navbox_596184_ways?nodeId=596194

Amazon.com gladly accepts orders from all around the globe. Available product lines, shipping rates and fees may vary depending on the delivery address for your order.

We are currently able to ship books, CDs, DVDs, VHS videos, music cassettes, and vinyl records to European addresses.

Russia is on the list of the European countries to which Amazon ships, so place your order today! :panic:

thank you pablo! Not to lead this thread off topic any more: they don't give us "standard rates", only some "Priority rates" - a shipment, even if it did arrive (in most cases it just doesn't - as other people's experience has shown) would cost from 1/4 to 1/2 of my monthly salary, and I really can't pay it for a book; even if I could, I don't have the means of payment - no bank account, credit card, or any way to add anything to my paypal account, which currently contains $ 4 - all that, in short, amounts to Amazon being unavailable. So, I will have to wait till I can get it in a bookstore; I think I'll start saving right now, maybe will get myself this present for my next birthday! Thank you really, really much for your concern anyway! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif

Little Gem: you have nominated Night Shift as a collection, while it seems to me that we're nominating individual works now; which would it be?

Melike: I have counted both your nominations (Jerusalem's Lot and the Dark Half, because there's been confusion with Night Shift).
