I can totally see that about you.

For me? Roland, hands down.

After that, hmmm, I'd say:

Ray Garraty, of The Long Walk

Trashcan Man. How can you not like Trashy?

Randall Flagg. Just for the evil fun of it. :)

Charlie Decker, of Rage. Too damn smart for his own good, but I like a good wily, crazy person.

I liked the idea of the emotional vampire. Not a fan of Joe Collins' stand-up routine though.

Linoge, and if I can't use him because of the screen play bit, then Flagg, his a.k.a

The Pere's redemption has brought several tears to my eyes. Another scene that gets me every time is when he gives Jake last rites and they storm the dixie pig. I simply wept. Very powerful.

Bringing this thread back from the grave...

From my limited King repertoire I think I'd have to say:
Nick Andros, Ralph Roberts, Stu Redman, Eddie Dean.
Not in any specific order. Too tough to decide.

Roland number 19

For real, regardless of the cliche aspect, I never grew away from ROland. I mean, what a freakin' bad ass.

hmmm I think a shout out has to go to Cynthia Smith, she of tu-tone hair in Rose Madder and Desperation. Don't call her cookie she won't call you cake. Docs 1 and 2 in insommnia are great and you gotta have a good ole baddy in the line up and i think the Green Mile's William Wharton fits the bill nicely.

Yes, Cynthia is a good shout - King writes strong women very well

But I'm utterly down with the Henry Leyden love

Tiffany

Rose Daniels/Mclendon
Gertrude Kinshaw (I love when she pissed on Norman after beating his ass).
Jack Sawyer
Speedy

Seth Garin

And of course, Jake and Roland.

I just love Stu Redman. And in my head he looks exactly just like Gary Sinise.
But surprisingly, many of my favourite characters are from Black House - Henry Leyden, Jack Sawyer, Armand St. Pierre, even all the villains, because they were so brilliantly written.

One of King's most memorable characters for me has always been Charlie McGee. No matter which character's I meet (and that includes Roland), I will always remember her and her impact on me. Of course, I was fascinated by fire as a kid... maybe that has something to do with it. Firestarter was one of the first full novels of King's that I read. That may be another part of it.

It's really hard for me to choose, but if I had a gun to my head, I'd probably go with Henry Leyden, from Black House. The character always has stuck with me...I'm also a big fan of Andre Linoge, from Storm of the Century.

Roland is definitely my most favourite, but I also have a soft spot for the following:

Jack Sawyer
Wolf
Speedy
Ben Hanscome
Doloris Claibourne (that books is also one of my favourites)
John Coffey
Annie Wilkes
Jake (of DT)
Oy

I should probably say that the above mentioned are not in a prioritized list. Except for Roland of course.

Yeah!!! Black House is definitely one of my favorites!!!!!!

As for the thread overall question, its so hard in that King is so great at creating characters Its tough to try to single out characters over all his books!!!! I suppose you could try to break it down Good/Evil, etc, but it is very difficult!!! Some Favs that come to mind:

Good:

Danny
Henry Leyden
Roland
Jake
Charlie
Larry Underwood
Ben Mears
Johnny Mansville (? From Desperation/Regulators)
And of Course, Jack Sawyer!!!

Bad:

Flagg (in all variations)
Burnsie
Mr. Munshun
Christine
Cujo (both good and bad I suppose)
Jack Torrance (yeah, in the end, though tragic, he would be on my "Bad" list)
Crimson King (in all variations)
Big Jim Rennie
