I don't know if anyone's caught on to HBO's new series "True Blood", but it quickly turned into one of my favorites!! Though it is sad that I can't watch it 'til I go home 'cause I don't get HBO out here at school.
 sad day!!

But...what's everyone's take on this program? Like, dislike? WHAT PEOPLE??!
hahaha.

Sorry, this is a post-brit lit freak-out

I'm secretly obsessed. I'm watching online because I don't have HBO so I usually have to wait till Monday to watch it. But, um, yeah, I'm diggin' it so far.

So far it seems like another strong HBO series to add to their impressive list. My only hope is that they don't go overboard with the whole human-meets-vampire "love story" aspect of it, because I find it to be the least interesting part of the show and I just feel like that is an idea that has already been done to death.

True. But for us girls out there, I'm sure at least I'm okay with another vampire cliche. :wtf:
But I really like that they've thrown in other things like Suki's psychic abilities and Sam (i think that's his name-the bar owner?) has this weird affiliation with dogs or animals or something.
I don't know. I can see this going somewhere really neat.

Where is it available online? I had actually never heard of it, till I was on vacation this past week. The resort we were staying at had free HBO, and I was flicking thru the channels one night and caught a little bit of it. It looked pretty good, but I don't get HBO back at home.

I saw most of one episode a couple of weeks ago when I was out of town, and I must say that I pretty much hated it. I didnt catch the beginning and didnt realize what it was and truly thought that it was some lame vampire B-movie.

Now dont lynch me or anything...I just thought the acting was a bit too melodramatic (not always, but often) and that the plot seemed old hat. I think vampires have been done to death, and done much better. But then I never took to Buffy, the Laurel Hamilton books, or the Twilight series. I just find it all a bit too hokey.

haha that's all good.
I know what you mean though Aaron. It sometimes feels cliche. But I love my supernatural stuff so I usually try to ignore it! But, it's not for everyone.

I think what bothers me the most is that vampires are taken as a given. People just accept that they exist, and I find it ridiculous. Vampires are supposed to be creatures of the dark, of the underground. They're not just taken as a given, and that is what I think bothers me the most. I love the supernatural, but I can only suspend my disbelief so far before I have to change the channel.

ladykatherine

haha that's fair enough.
i understand...i usually have problems with why there is at least one human who is always around them when we're technically suppose to be repelled by their inhuman beauty. who knows?

Its a cool little Universe........... and I think the actors and characters are great.

I think its the best HBO series in a while. Generation Kill was pretty good too.

I think I am falling in love with Sookie :) Lafeyette is awesome!

I tell you what though, I don't know if I trust Bill 100% though........... They still don't know who killed Sookie's Grandma.......... AND........ why was Bill hanging around with those savage vampires..... I dunno. Also, Jason is getting out there on that V....... He's gonna try to kill Bill you watch or something.... Heck he was gonna sell the candlestix and his Grandma's jewelry for V, thats not cool at all...... Its like I know Bill really cares about Sookie but I don't know if he can just deny his nature, its kinda like he's fighting. And where is Sam gonna fit in this all, is he ever gonna hook up with Sookie......... This show is freakin awesome!

I highly recommend it

I need some V :D (Vampire blood actually becomes a drug that PPL abuse :) )

I think the music and production is excellent, especially the intro.......

Here is a couple true blood fan sites: http://true-blood.net/

http://true-blood.tv/

its based on Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire novels.

Here's an overview from the second fan site.

TRUE BLOOD,
NEW SERIES FROM “SIX FEET UNDER” CREATOR ALAN BALL,
STARRING ANNA PAQUIN AND STEPHEN MOYER,
DEBUTS SEPT. 7 ON HBO

In the not-too-distant future, vampires have come out of the coffin. Thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood, vampires no longer need humans for their fix and can walk freely, if not yet comfortably, among their living counterparts – though they can still come out only at night.

Meanwhile, in the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps, Sookie Stackhouse works as a waitress at the down-home bar Merlotte’s. Though outwardly normal, she has unusual qualities of her own: Sookie can read minds, which complicates her world in endless ways. But Sookie’s life becomes a lot more interesting when Merlotte’s gets its first vampire patron – the 173-year-old Bill Compton – and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other.

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, the new HBO series TRUE BLOOD kicks off its 12-episode first season SUNDAY, SEPT. 7 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT). Starring Anna Paquin (the “X-Men” films; Academy Award®-winner for “The Piano”) as Sookie and Stephen Moyer (“The Starter Wife,” “88 Minutes”) as Bill, the series is created and executive produced by Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy®-winning HBO series “Six Feet Under”), who also wrote the first three episodes and directs two episodes of the show, which is based on the popular Sookie Stackhouse novels of Charlaine Harris.

Other cast regulars on TRUE BLOOD include Ryan Kwanten (“Summerland”) as Sookie’s brother Jason, whose womanizing makes him the prime suspect in a gruesome murder case; Rutina Wesley (“How She Move”) as Sookie’s best friend Tara Thornton, whose outspoken ways constantly get her into trouble; Sam Trammell (“Judging Amy”) as Sookie’s good-hearted boss Sam Merlotte, who carries a torch for her; Nelsan Ellis (“The Inside”) as Lafayette Reynolds, a cook at Merlotte’s, whose personal life is as colorful as his wardrobe; Chris Bauer (HBO’s “The Wire”) as Detective Andy Bellefleur; Jim Parrack (“Criminal Minds”) as Hoyt Fortenberry, one of Jason Stackhouse’s co-workers on a road construction crew; Carrie Preston (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) as Sookie’s fellow waitress Arlene Fowler; Michael Raymond James (“Black Snake Moan”) as Rene Lenier, another one of Jason’s co-workers; William Sanderson (HBO’s “Deadwood”) as Sheriff Bud Dearborne; and Alexander Skarsgård (HBO’s “Generation Kill”) as Eric, a Nordic vampire.

Also appearing in TRUE BLOOD are Lois Smith (“Hollywoodland”) as Sookie’s grandmother Adele, who shares her fascination with vampires; Lizzy Kaplan (“Cloverfield”) as Amy Burley, the new girl in town who falls for Jason; Lynn Collins (“The Number 23”) as Dawn Green, a waitress who has an on-again, off-again relationship with Sookie’s brother; Kristin Bauer (“Dirty Sexy Money”) as Eric’s cohort Pam, who helps run a vampire bar; and Stephen Root (“No Country for Old Men”) as Eddie, a neophyte vampire.

In addition to Alan Ball, directors on the series include John Dahl (“Rounders”), Nick Gomez (“The Shield”), Anthony Hemingway (HBO’s “The Wire”), Michael Lehmann (HBO’s “Big Love”), Daniel Minahan (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Nancy Oliver (writer, “Lars and the Real Girl”), Marcos Siega (“Veronica Mars”) and Scott Winant (“Hidden Palms”).

TRUE BLOOD is created and executive produced by Alan Ball; based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris; co-executive producer, Brian Buckner; supervising producer, Nancy Oliver; producers, Alexander Woo, Carol Dunn Trussell; co-producer, Raelle Tucker; director of photography, Checco Varese; casting by Junie Lowry Johnson, C.S.A. & Libby Goldstein; music by Nathan Barr; edited by Andy Keir and Michael Ruscio, A.C.E.; production designer, Suzuki Ingerslev.

I love Suki too (well, not really, but you get it). She's so sweet and saucy hehehehe...

I'm glad to see that there's a few people that like this show!! I haven't seen the last few episodes (I don't care if you guys talk about them), but I gotta wait until I go home again!!:cry:

But they definitely picked freakin amazing male leads...Stephen Moyer and Sam Trammell are so amazing (and HOT of course, hehe).

ok, so I am officially addicted to this show.
I actually like the fact that the vampires are a known fact and living amongst the living. It's something different that you wouldn't normally see.
Does anyone know if the season has ended yet, or is it still going?

Holy hell, yes he would. I can see that.

Ok, why has no one been posting in this thread? I'm quite sure there are plenty of y'all who watch this show religiously and would just luv to give commentary every Sunday night/Monday/whenever you get around to watching the new episode you had to dvr because something got in your way of watching it?

Only two episodes left this season. Makes me sad.

Thoughts on it so far...

Sookie - love her, especially when fighting for bill
Bill - really not that into him at the moment. Glad he loves Sookie, but he has become a little boring and something of a limp noodle to me lately.
Eric - now that's what I'm talking about! woohoo
Godric - godbless him, he's just so nice and peaceful at the moment. Gotta love him.
Jason - So happy he has "seen the light" and moved on.
Sam - perhaps my favorite character
Tara & Eggs - wish they would hurry up and figure out Maryanne is a supernatural, nutcase bitch
Jessica - love her
Lafayette - such a character...but seriously let's try a different color eye shadow than gold

Ew I would hate Stephen Moyer as Roland, he's just to boring. And British. Tara on the other hand, I agree, perfect sussannah. I have thought that for a while now. Her sassyness is the only way I can see detta being real to me at all.

Anyways, ready for the next season. Season 2 was far less satisfying than 1 IMHO. Too many zombie seances. Too much of Skokie and bill whining about eachother. Sams storyline was good. I really liked the preachers wife. Jessica is becoming lame with hoyt. Lafayette still cool. Anyways good show to watch in the summer months. Hope next season doesn't get any hokier, although I'll probably keep watching just for the hell of It.

Ps. There is a true blood drink for sale now how cool!

Nonono... Stephen Moyer as Roland would be very bad choice. But Tara would be exellent Susannah/Detta/Odetta! How didn't I get it earlier!? Also Sam could make pretty good Eddie...

I liked the first season of TRUE BLOOD, but two things bothered me:
1. When the vampire's fangs 'click' down I burst out laughing every time, they look so ridiculous snapping into place like that and...
2. The fangs are on the WRONG teeth! The canines should be the fangs, not the laterol incisors! Unless I am seeing things, of course.

OMG thank God you admitted that for me! I was trying to down play it lol :) i adore almost EVERY male in the True Blood cast, Jason, Bill, Eric, Godrick, Sam - i love them all!! ;) I know they're fake but omg i do love those southern accents! I live in Liverpool and the accent here sounds likes someone clearing their throat!! I fully agree with you though about wishing they would turn round ;) - i know this is very very off topic and kinda creepy but I'm the manager of a licensed adult store in Liverpool and we got through a list of the new DVD's that are coming out next year and there is now a porn version of Twilight and a true blood vibrator! very disturbing!!

We have been faithfully watching True Blood and season three is fairly violent compared to the first two. Also, there might not be as much sex as season two but it is some really graphically weird sex. And now suddenly there are fairies? This being said we are still enjoying it.

I have a co-worker who has read all of the books but refuses to watch the show and another who has read all of the books and is watching the show. The latter has spoiled a couple things already.

I tried not to read all of the posts in here for spoilers, but I've watched the first five episodes and I have the first two books with me, thanks to a friend.

Sookie is fucking annoying, sorry. I can't stand her. I love Anna Paquin, but she looks terrible as a blonde and her lines are awful. Basically I'm hooked for every other character. Also, WHY is Bill, a very hot, immortal, hot, worldly, hot (!) vampire so fascinated with obnoxious Sookie? She reads minds? You need a better reason than that. Maybe the books will explain better.

Tara would be an amazing Susannah. Too bad she probably won't get it.

Okay, plot hole or something, but Lafayette (who I love and is also hot) said that a vial of V is $600. Everyone keeps talking about how expensive V is, but if you only need a drop... say there's 60 drops in a vial, that's a $10 per dose medicine that gets you high, hard and healed. Sorry, but that's pretty damn cheap in my opinion.

i bought the 1st two books but i haven't gotten around to actually reading them. i LOVE the show. actaully i like "Anna P." as a blonde but than i have a thing for blondes. but not dumb blondes who are dumb as a post per say. not all of them are like that. though it may feel like that at times. anyways back on topic. i also agree the actress who plays Tara would be a great "Susannah" but i doubt she'll get it either. it would also be trouble if she did get it. when scheduling came around for the series & for "True Blood" i believe they start filming in December normally when it comes to "True Blood"

& finish at some point in the spring? when it comes to the rest of the year i can see her having the time. but if they are filming the films back to back in a manner of speaking, than it will at some point be a problem. however if they do end up using her somewhat for having one of the 6 hr. films min-series as "W&G" than they may just use her a little if it starts out around the campfire. & won't need her much until after he finishes telling the story. so who knows ya know?

anyways back on topic, i LOVED Season 3. it was actually kind of nice seeing a story for once rather than seeing Jason bang this woman or that woman. my question when it comes to money, is the town is quite little, if "V" is $600 bucks where in the hell do these guys get the money"

by the looks of the townsfolk most of them don't look like they have much money to their name. but than maybe that's just me?

Not at all in the books, but she is annoying as shit in the show especially in Season 3! Bill takes a turn being annoying in season 2 and well season 2 is poo. Season 3 totally makes up for it though. As far as the books they are all good except book 10 felt rushed and seemed unfinished. 4 is my favorite and I think its 8 is too.

Ka-mai, you like Tara on the show? I can't stand her. Like to the point that I actually fast forward through some of her scenes

I like the books a lot. They certainly don't keep me up at night thinking about life and the universe, but they're easy, fun reading. Also, Eric for motherfucking life. I don't know if it's the whole Viking thing or whatever, but man oh man do I love him.

:P I think I like her because she's so NOT like Sookie, who I can't stand (on tv), and because she's kind of super obnoxious, like me. She does need to stop drooling over Jason though, it's really pathetic.

I just finished the first book, and it was good. Not great. The writing is a little below the level I'd like it to be (but I have really high standards) and I felt the ending was a little bit of a letdown. I'll probably start the second tonight. Also, my coworker might be able to lend me the rest of the tv series if her dad will let go of them. :P

The vampire protagonist is by far the weakest part of this show. If you can put him out of you head though True Blood is a really entertaining series. Alan Ball did a great job, at least based upon the two seasons I watched.

Actually, while I don't disagree wholeheartedly with both complaints, I'm gonna give it a little more leeway. True Blood has a way of "turning it around" so to speak. The season with the "Demon-Woman" comes to mind. I liked where they went with it. This season too, can be brought around to "good stuff". We'll see.

and this just in they might be bringing in Christopher Meloni from Law and Order SVU...That could be yummy....lol

True Blood has moved so far away from the books now that it is starting to actually annoy me. They are getting into Legend of the Seeker levels of fuckery now. I started watching True Blood before I actually read the books, so I haven't been as nit-picky fanboy about it as I am with most other shows. I keep watching, but I usually roll my eyes five or six times an episode in exasperation now.

I like how now they brought in this Tracy chick, who is actually Tara's character from the books. Very strange.

That being said, I thought the last two books were very bad. They kind of built up to this level of "please stop now." that I've been really annoyed with. It's like she knows people will buy them so she keeps writing them without a real sense of plot or purpose. At least the show has tried to have more overarching plots and interesting character growth whereas the books seem to be getting stagnant.

That is my second favorite moment of the whole series. Awesome.

I really wonder the history between Russel Edgington and Faerie Elder.

Was it only the trauma to his head or was it Elder's magic that made Jason to see his parents encouraging him to kill vampires?

And Warlow of course. He is our new big mystery. And I welcome that. :)

About Warlow:
He was awesome when we first saw him trying to escape from that dimension of hell. With that black hat and jacket. I must agree that Ben-Warlow twist was successfully unexpected. But I hate it when they try to merge the villains with a hot man appearance.

well i own the first 3 books but i haven't read all of the 1st one yet. here's from the books that i can think of at the top of my head, well that i've heard anyways. the fairies are kick ass in the book they fight back and aren't pussies like the show. they go around i think killing folks they need to or something? i dunno how much of that is true. but that's all i got. Lafyaette and sorry about my spelling. is only is i think 2 or 3 books.

but he gets killed in one of them actually. he got so popular and loved during the show's early years that they kept him alive. or so iv'e heard.
it's told from Sookie's point of view as well. by the way. i'm also happy as hell it got renewed for another season. maybe it'll be 12 or 13 episodes like it normally is.

I am glad they didn't kill Lafayette. He is a colorful character to the show. Also I am so happy we finally saw the Tara we knew in the last episode, in the scene with Jessica when she mentioned her mother. For long time she was different, after she turned into a vampire.

hell yeah that was awesome wasn't it? getting ahead i like that. he he. i was curious on how hew as going to be played we saw him be a villian and than when he opended the true blood back up. it got me wondering if he privately was for the vampires. well i guess not. and what do you folks thing of this season so far? i am loving it other than them killing off well.. anyways, also i love how they went from destroying Jason well the character

anyways at the end of last season with him seeing his dead parents. and than he's been saved this season. now they are making Alicide a fucking asshole. when he was a decent and good guy for so long. which makes me wonder if they are going to do that, why is he even on the show anymore? my guess is that Sam will also be one that gets killed this season. i have no proof of this of course but that's my guess.

it might also be the fact that Alcide is still under the influence of V. It takes a while to get back to normal from being on that stuff...at least imo it does...but it could also be that the other "drug" (power) is getting in his head and he is trying to do something for the pack that ultimately will see him coming to terms with what he is doing. Looks like this season's story is how power corrupts all whether it is human, vampire or wolf.
