Ah!

It's too difficult to choose.

I'll say this: Sir_Boomme's entry is frr-EE-kee. :]

Umm...Daggers? I don't plan on getting many (interpret as "any") votes since I just did my Oy for fun, but could you maybe fix my name in the poll? Thankee sai!

Ha, ha, I was too late.

Never mind, when I've finished the colouring I may post it just for fun. (Nowhere near the quality of these here anyway.)

The ones closest to my picture of Oy here were Darkthoughts and Boehmke. I love the effort and texture that went into Boehmke's but Darkthoughts's is just a bit closer to how I imagine Oy from the description. Good work though everyone.

Lisa ,you got my vote!

Sir_Boomme
10-07-2008, 06:01 PM
well.... mine definitely had the biggest B.S. story behind it... but as far as art quality and most true to king's OY descript., i had to go with boehmke's version - though darkthoughts was a close second.
gsvec's made me laugh the most.

i so want a bumbler like boehmke's now... where do i get one!!!!

ps. now i know what a bumbler is... but what the hell is a boehmke?

gsvec
10-07-2008, 06:33 PM
My problem is that if you COMBINE Darkthoughts and boehmke's versions together, you get the Oy I always imagined! Man, this is gonna be a very tough decision . . .

Letti

I thought it would be hard to choose but my heart decided quite quickly.
Lisa, your Oy is the Oy I have in my head. Thank you.

Jean
10-07-2008, 10:24 PM
I voted Lisa's.

The Lion's is immensely touching, but I don't see him as a samurai Oy was.

Lady Linda's is, as it is always the case with her pictures, evoking the whole atmosphere, but himself looks rather clumsy.

boehmke's is fantastic, just a friend Jake needed, but not a merciless bug-killer who would save Jake's life

gsvec's has, in my opinion, the right tail, but the rest seems to me much too canine

TLC's is a cute little tiger, I love him too, but always pictured Oy a little different

and Lisa's is perfect!

Darkthoughts

Gretchen, I voted for you :D

What a race!

By the way, Sir Boome, Thing is awesome - and awesome name! John Carpenter's The Thing is my #1 horror movie of all time.

"First goddamn week of winter."

Truly, I do love them all.
Like I said, I picked Darkthoughts, with boehmke being a close second.
To me, though, boehmke's Oy looks too... I don't know... happy, I guess.

Congrats to all, regardless.

What a race!

By the way, Sir Boome, Thing is awesome - and awesome name! John Carpenter's The Thing is my #1 horror movie of all time.

WOW! what a close contest... all tied up at 15.
who's going to step up and be the tie breaker?

thanks woofer, my "Thing" is awesome :)

my 14 year old collie that died a couple of years ago was named "It". I was reading king's "IT" when he was born...on friday the 13th - so i named him "It's Friday the 13th"...aka "It" for short.

anyway, dean koontz was signing his new book "The Husband" about 2 1/2 years ago, so i got him to sign a copy to me... and sign a copy to my collie. shortly after that, "It" passed away. four months later i got another dog from the animal shelter... and when trying to come up with a name... i reflected back on the koontz inscription below... and the name fit. so king named my collie, and koontz named my current pup.

i think it's kinda funny koontz also inscribed his book to a major evil king character.

Darkers. She has the feel of Oy for me. I never thought he looked so dog-like and Lisa's picture is the closest to the Oy in my head.

Well after much deliberation I went with Lisa's. It was a very tough choice. I did love boehmke's though, and I think if you combine the two together you'd get what I imagined Oy as in my head.

A quick off-topic, but related question: do any of you use gimp for your artwork?

I tend to draw with pencil, then over again with pen as I find it difficult to draw with a mouse. I then scan it in, and fill and colour on the computer. Trouble is all my black ink pen work comes out grey on the scan. I've been trying to work out an easy way to blacken it all. (I like drawing with black outlines, comic-style.) Fill tool doesn't work as there are jaggies, and the grey colour isn't uniform.

I could use the burn tool to darken everything with a brush, but if there's a quicker way that'd be nice.

Since this isn't relate strictly to this contest, please feel free to PM me or point me to a thread elsewhere.

Daghain
10-14-2008, 12:39 PM
I'm not seeing a thread anywhere - maybe you should start one! I'm sure there are a few people who would like to discuss this. :D

jayson
10-14-2008, 12:41 PM
Dunno if there is a thread or not, but I do know that Letti uses Gimp a lot to make her banners. She might be someone who can answer your question Brainslinger.

Daghain
10-14-2008, 12:54 PM
And there is a Gimp thread around here somewhere....

Darkthoughts
10-14-2008, 01:25 PM
I don't use GIMP or photoshop, I don't even have a scanner right now  I take photos on my camera and hope for the best.

Daghain
