The article for Oy can be found here (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=705). I can't wait to see what you all do with this one! Good luck, and have fun!

Contest will close October 7, 2008.

Oh man, I can't wait to see what people come up with for this one - it makes me wish I was artistic!

Brainslinger

I haven't done any drawing for ages. I keep meaning too... leave it until the next day... then the contest is over. I had a nice idea for the previous Mia contest too, but mental art doesn't get showcase unless you're on a forum of telepaths. (Any breakers find their way here? No?)

Whether my art would be any good or not is a whole other issue...

Daghain
09-24-2008, 01:39 PM
We'd still love to see it! Give it a try!

Matt

I actually dreamed last night that I drew a fantastic picture for this context. I woke up when I realized Oy wasn't in it; but the picture was very, very beautiful.

ok.... so here's my story and i'm sticking to it...

definitely open to interpretation...
in the dark tower, mordred - who represents the ultimate evil , turns into a giant spider.

in " IT ", pennywise, who represents the ultimate evil, also turns into a giant spider.

my "opinion" is that these two are actually "twinners", from different stephen king universes. not a stated fact anywhere... just my viewpoint.

the ghostly boy in my pic, could be a "normal" boy - from the "It" universe - playing gunslinger, but he is really a "Twinner" of Jake.

both pennywise and the twinner Jake are fading though into my universe via thinny in my backyard -
which as all the locals know... is definitely a place, where strange "Things" happen.... specifically the area around my pool,

my pup "Thing" is most likely "OYs" twinner.

and that's the honest to gosh truth.... as i know it.

PS. Thing doesn't bark really - he talks.... really... the sounds that come out of his mouth are so human-like., i swear he's trying to actually speak. just like OY
and he definitely has an OY-like curly tail

Matt

thanks t/s! i guess all the really artistic people are taking so long because they're doing something amazing to put my poor Oy to shame...

it's ok i'm proud of him.. I don't think the one in the DTVII hard cover looked accurate.. My Oy has thick, silky fur and gold rings around his eyes... i feel like whoever made those pics in that book didn't even read the description of Oy.

alinda
09-30-2008, 04:37 AM
Thank you, its takes a bit of practice. I rather like painting, it
demands my attention, unlike when I draw on paper or some other
thing. Then it is more automactic I think, it flows. I'm just not sure
that what I painted was Oy , or the "visitor" at my door. :wtf:

painting here to the site to share with you all.

Darkthoughts
10-02-2008, 07:49 AM
I've gone more with Oy looking like a daschund, with the raccoon influence being mostly in the markings and also the paws.
I've pictured him more doglike simply because SK says that he could pass for a dog (albeit an odd one) in our world.

The gold ringed eyes part, I always thought, referred to the irises themselves. I've coloured them in yellow, but it doesn't show up that much:

i always thought Oy was fluffier... but i  Lisa's picture.

When I was reading the books, alot of the time I didn't develop clear images of the characters, just more sort of outlines of them...a suggestion of an image if you know what I mean?
And I have to admit, I pretty much just imagined Oy as a racoon.

I might redo my entry, because I think I'd have the body slimmer and the head slightly less canine

Here we go, I actually prefer this version. He's more racoon than dog, but the scene on the bridge in Lud when Oy has to bite Jake's hand to stop from falling off makes me think he'd be smaller and more delicate than the daschund's compact frame.

Jean
10-04-2008, 09:14 AM

10-04-2008, 09:38 AM
How did you picture the tail, Jean?
Bears don't really picture anything, not in the visual sense... I have a very clear "picture" in my mind, but it is not visual, so I can't say... I don't think the tail that the Oy existing in my mind has is that long... but I don't really see.

But yours is so Oy that maybe soon I'll get used to this tail, too

Darkthoughts
10-04-2008, 09:42 AM
I know exactly what you mean! I don't have a mental photograph of many book characters, but at the same time I know what they look like to me enough to be able to say "Yes" or "that's not quite right" when faced with an actual image.

The tail confused me too. SK's description doesn't really state if the tail is small or long, fat or thin...I was going to go very small like a pig's tail, but for this particular composition I thought he looked more cosy with a long one.

alinda
10-04-2008, 09:54 AM

Gretchen, how fluffy do you picture him? Burmese cat fluffy? Or somewhere inbetween?

I'm not exactly sure how much fluffier, but I didn't picture him quite so sleek. I guess I'm thinking that might be where the groundhog part kicked in? Or maybe I was thinking fatter? Can't put my finger on it, but you're version is soooo close to my interp!!

Heh, me too. Probably the eyes and the stripes. Cute animals racoons. And one species we don't have over here. (Lots of foxes though. I got really close to one the other day and took a few pictures. It seemed so used to people it stayed around after I had left.)

Oh... just so I'm not off topic, I'll give my entry a bash soon (probably tomorrow.)

EDIT: OK, just saw your last picture Darkthoughts. That's pretty much spot on for what I imagined. I imagined the squiggly tail thinner though for some reason. That's amazing though. All that fur texture must have taken ages. I suspect mine will be a bit more toonified. ;)

Axel Dog: a beed of Canine, commonly mistaken as a mutt. It's name is derived from the singer from Guns and Roses "Axel Rose". An Axel dog usually has an underbite, a bushy tail, and long black fur. They are strong, intelligent (but not THAT intelligent), and usually communicate through growling grunt. The Axel dog is a rare breed, and othere is only one known, it lives with Razz Devares.

That's exactly the tail I was thinking of!! Is your dog really called Thing? that's too cool!!

Razz -

actually "Thing" is short for "The Thing"....and dean koontz named him for me...

and the water lovin' pup below is named "WORM"

i call em as i see em. my collie that died a couple of years ago was named "IT".

Here we go, I actually prefer this version. He's more racoon than dog, but the scene on the bridge in Lud when Oy has to bite Jake's hand to stop from falling off makes me think he'd be smaller and more delicate than the daschund's compact frame.

Up there with Whelan as the best Oy yet.

I haven't seen this one above... how could it happen? It's Oy.
Lisa could get into the story with a camere (through some kind of weird door) and she took a picture of him.
