IMAGE HOSTING SERVICES:

You may use TheDarkTower.com Gallery to host your pics if you would like. See this thread on instructions;

http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=561

Please use an image hosting service such as imageshack. ANY hosting service (http://photobucket.com/, your own website etc.) is fine.
http://imageshack.us/ (http://imageshack.us/)
For those unfamiliar with the procedure here are instructions (to the best of my ability):
Go to http://imageshack.us/ (http://imageshack.us/) and click on the browse button to find the picture on your computer.
Check the resize image button and select a size no larger than 800x600.
Click host it.
Copy the URL for the direct link to your image.
In the reply page for your post click the insert image icon.
A pop up box appears. Delete the preexisting http:// that is in the box.
Paste in the URL from Imageshack for the link to your image.
Click OK. Your picture should now be in the preview box.
Click the Submit Reply button.I am adding screen shots to give graphic images of these procedures.

I'm running them from my own website....is that fine? Or does it affect things?

Photobucket is essentially the same as imageshack. It should be fine reaaly I think as long as they are hosted offsite all should be good. :D

Anything that is hosted as opposed to using the little "browse" button in reply and uploading it to the site, is good to go.

But mostly I would like to be able to publish links on our home page as opposed to actual images. So if you guys have them all hosted in one spot, shoot me the link and we can get the "collections" page all worked out this weekend so everyone can be represented.

I edited my post to clarify that photobucket, or any hosting service is fine.

Photobucket works great and you can open a free account, so you can use the same links again and again wherever you want to show your photos.

I like Photobucket, that's the first hosting service that I used and I just stuck with it.

I've never used one before I joined up here (or sometime before). I just copied everyone else and use the Bucket too. I'm a copy-cat.

If you are using the bucket, don't forget to post links to your albums. It would be great to feature everyone's collection that way on the "collections" page.

Also, if you would like your pic included, post one of those :nana:

btw, I am hosting my images on my own site, let me know if you guys have a problem?

Matt

Not at all guthrie--if you have them all in one place I could post a link on the web page for it.

Having them on your own site is no problem though, anywhere but loaded on the board is great. :D

no unfortunately they could be anywhere from my site. They are not just in one folder. Although I will say 80% are kept in a webimages folder. I can give that info if needed.

EDIT: will do Matt

That sounds terrific. I have been developing this "collections" idea for the past few months so there has been some mixed info on it.

I would love it if you simply started a thread for everything in your collection and posted whichever pics you like in there. The new page format means that I can just pull threads on to it so anyone visiting the site can see :D

I am bumping this to include the gallery. We can now host images on this very site.

This enables me to to have the images in one place so I can use them for random modules and will also make it easier to find specific images by a certain user.

I will put up a thread on what we are looking for on it today.

Bump.
Lots of new members, so I thought I would help anyone who needed guidance on using the Gallery, or a hosting service for images.
Page 1 gives the relevant info.

Pixie - Did you check these threads :

Photo Uploading (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=561)

I've had the same problem before too. I think there is a pre-set file size limit. I've found if you upload to a site like tinypic first, save that file and re-up it here it will work - but once you've done that, you may as well just use that link instead of wasting the time re-upping it here.

I tried to upload photos again. The message said image uloaded successfully, but I can not find my picture. It says I have 2 pictures in my que, but them it says in my profile photos section that I have no images.

Its gotta be the file size. Its the same problem I've had - it'll let you keep adding to your que, but not ever actually upload them.

Actually, Matt, or I have to "create" a gallery for you (or anyone else).

I got two of my photos to thumdnail size and I got to process image. Then when the process is finished, it goes to blank screen. Then it says I have no photos. I created my own album. I tried tinypic. Nothing seems to be working.:doh::pullhair::angry:

This might be a stupid question: Do you need to buy Photohost to upload photos?
I am still having trouble.

turtlex
08-18-2009, 12:33 AM
No, pixie, you should be able to upload them into your own album here.

turtlex

Pixie - here's a step by step, starting at the very beginning and creating yourself an album - let me know if this helps :

On the top row of buttons at the top of the page - click Gallery

In the middle of the page, click the button My Albums
Click Create A New Album
Fill in Album Name ( ie - Pixie's Pix )
Fill in Album Description
Leave Is Album Private set to no
Click Create New Album Button
( new album for you should now be created )
Click My Albums
Find your album just created and click Upload Photos on the right side.
The first two fields should be filled in already...
Under Select the photos you wish to upload from your computer: click BROWSE and select the photo from your desktop - double click it to fill it in.
Fill in default title and description if you'd like - not required.
Click the Upload/Submit button

That should do it.

I got one picture posted to my album. I am having trouble adding more pictures. I notice in my que that it says I have 26 waiting. What does this mean? Why won't any of the pictures come up or be added to my album?

How do you get photos onto the Collections page? How do you get your photos into this section of Calvin's corner? How do you put a link to your photos in your signature?

I can get photos into my albums, but I can't get them on to the Collections.

You would need to have a Collections page made for you by an admin person.

I would love it if an administrator would make me a collections page.!
