The purpose of this thread is to post notification when Stephen King First Editions go on sale at remainder prices.

July 30, 2008: Blaze is available at Barnes & Noble for $5.98. Original price was $25.00. Copies are in mint condition.

I was at the Kent State University (Kent, Ohio) bookstore over the weekend and they had a few remaindered copies of Cell for $5.99. These all had that big black remainder ink mark on the bottom of the pages, though.

I hate that. I noticed the B&N by me does that and ruined (IMO) 1st Editions of Cell, DTVI and DTVII. I go to another B&N in a very upscale area and they don't mark the remainders at all. I think the store near me had problems with people buying the remainders, then pealing the sticker off and returning the books for full credit. That or the Manager is an idiot.:pullhair:

The Barnes and Noble by me has been having Lisey's Story, Storm of the Century, DTVI, DTVII, and Blaze (all first editions) on sale for $5.98 for weeks now. I haven't been to B&N for about 2 weeks, so they may have gotten in some new titles.

this gets my vote. how can you work in a bookstore and mark in/on a book like that? it's appalling. it's a travesty. it's, it's, it's just wrong. on so very many levels of the tower.

I was in PA for the weekend and went in a shop called Book Warehouse. They had fine/fine 1st editions of Cell, Duma Key, From A Buick 8, and Hearts In Atlantis for $10 each. I own copies of the first three and didn't buy the Hearts In Atlantis (I could get a better price elsewhere). Still, I thought it was cool.

Given that there were supposed to be a total of 1.25 million copies of Lisey's Story in the first printing, that price seems a bit high. I don't have a number of the copies of Blaze.

I did the same...except for $2.37 if I remember correctly (bought 4)...only problem is that seller (if it's the same one) had a TON of extras, some of which were immaculate and some of which had minor dings, etc. But for that price you can't really complain, reselling the defected ones would be ridiculously easy on eBay for those who don't mind non-perfect copies. Regardless anything < $20 seems like a good deal for UtD Collector's Sets :)

A short time after Borders closed shop in my community a new/used bookstore called 2nd & Charles opened. I've only b een in a couple of time but am happy to say the least. I picked up a few audio boos (CDs) relatively cheap, such as Dolan's Cadillac and other Stories for $4.99. Actually picked up theree of these ...and other stories (all from Nightmares & Dreamscapes for $4.99 each. They were virtually brand new - brand new pricing is $15.00. Thus I think a good deal, especially since I spend so much commute time, that I lvoe the re-listens to all things King.

Keeping with this tread topic though - I was in there yesterday and noticed a First Edition Gargoyles in the Sky (King and fstop Fitzgerald) witht he remainder mark - the price $2.00. There were others King books on that rack, some with the remainder and some without, all for $4 to $10, some 1sts and some other or BCEs; shoudl have written everything down, but was in a hurry. I do remember seeing several copies of Desperation, Everythings Eventual, Hearts in Atlantis, at least one Christine and a Dead Zone. Also some pPlume Editions of the Dark Tower books. Blaze too!

I will be frequenting the store often - and perusing my colelction fo books for resale (lots of paperbacks that I will never pick up again, King and many others) as 2nd & Charles buys books, CD, audio books, video games, etc. They do have a huge Kid's section and we have purchased my Grandson a few already. He may not be quite 2 years old but loves to be read to, especially, Elmo or Mickey or Thomas the Train, or any books about animals or trucks or planes or trains! :-)

sk

It happens in Europe as well. The book publisher's representative goes to the shop and "marks" the books as "remaindered". The bookstore gets credit for each book marked. Sometimes the bookstore has to rip off the front page of a paperback to get a credit from the publisher. The kind of thing same thing happens with left over newspapers.
