View Full Version : WE GATHER DEMONS IN THE MIRROR EVERY DAY

Jon

When I come in, all must rise

When I go out, all low bows, but not to idolize.

When used over, I’ll do for a bit.

You likely have a diamond of mine, but I don’t need it.

You know Kelvin, he runs hot and cold, but he’s versatile

He runs left and right too. When he waves you simply must smile.

Many times I can be a bore.

I affect your mother to the core.

Something tells me this is all about temperature
and the weather...let me think on where the diamonds fit in.

Johnny Cash!

No, really I have no clue...Temperature came to mind for me, too...

Diamonds are formed with pressure and heat. :orely:

I effect your mother to the core. Something to do with the Earth's iron core?

Jon

These diamonds are not the sort formed in the mannor Gabe proposes...but the earth's iron core is definatly involved, though few realize it.

Magnetism?

Oil well?

Jon

Nothing right.

While the Earth's core is involved in the riddle, I think if you focus on that clue only you will find yourself "barking up the wrong tree," as you have been thus far.

Does this have anything to do with tides?

William50

I think it has something to do with an ocean.

B Rag

Blood!

Or something related to that?

Blood!

Or something related to that?

Oh, I see where you would get that. I change my answer to blood!

Yes Tide is the answer!

Another goose for your collection Gabe.

That was a good one!

Jon

Thank you and hello William, nice to see you here!

Any explanations needed for the riddle?

B Rag

If it's not too much trouble, I wouldn't mind a line-by-line explanation, lol.

I get some of them, but I'd like an explanation too Jon.

Agreed...this one's been in the back of my head since it was posted....nice to see you, B_Rag...been a while. =)

You are quite good at this.

When I come in, all must rise

When I go out, all low bows, but not to idolize. Did you notice the apparent grammar mistake? When the tide comes in all boats rise, when it goes out all boats (bows ) lower.

When used over, I’ll do for a bit. "tide you over."

You likely have a diamond of mine, but I don’t need it. The tidal diamond is found on almost every map and globe. It is a legend to tidal flows on a map of tidal flows.

You know Kelvin, he runs hot and cold, but he’s versatile

He runs left and right too. When he waves you simply must smile.

You know Kelvin as a measure of temperature. It seems William Thomson, Lord Kelvin was a busy man as he also discovered Kelvin waves in the ocean and the atmosphere and mantle. They behave in much the same way. They balance the Coriolis (the tendency of a wave of water, air and magma to veer to the right in the northern hemisphere and left in the southern.) effect against a shoreline. The wave retains it's shape as it flows with the shoreline to it's left in the southern hemisphere and right in the northern.( this is does not change if the shoreline is north, south, east or west facing.)

Many times I can be a bore. Tidal bore , the leading edge of a tidal flow that gathers and flows upstream in a coastal river or bay's estuary area and sometimes beyond. This is a true "tidal wave," not to be confused with a tsunami.

I affect your mother to the core. The Sun and Moon's gravitational pull we know to create tides in the ocean also create tides in the Earth's magma. This effect can even be measured by small changes in the Earth's magnetic field. This, and the bulge and concave in the planet at high and low tides, lead Physicists to believe the Earth's core moves. This is most evident when the Sun and Moon's gravitational pull on Earth are at their maximum at the same time.

I had so much fun writing it. I learned so much. More than I could put in the riddle. I hope I don't come off as smug but I figured there would be questions.

Excellent riddle, Jon! I was just poking around with the answer. I had some of the answers but not all. You smug bastard!

Jon

with a mug of beer!

But Riddle writing can be so enlightining. I read the material for hours after I wrote this riddle.
