Previews.

Ok…they want to have them in the theater….fine...I actually enjoy them there. They want to put them on a dvd that I’m renting from Blockbuster…fine. I don't like it but I can cope because I can skip them right? Wrong. How DARE they set up a dvd in such a way that I CANNOT skip the previews?! WTF is that! I just rented The Incredible Hulk this weekend (my kid is into the Hulk at the moment) and this god damn dvd MAKES you sit through the previews! To say that I was galled is a gross understatement.

Another bit of effrontery on the part of these folks that put out dvds… (and I'm counting them as one monstrous body because it gratifies me to do so)

I bought…actually bought…the movie 300 at Target a few weeks ago. Now, I feel that if you buy a dvd said dvd should be free of previews. Well…apparently I’m wrong there because dammit if there aren’t like 4 or 5 previews that I have to skip over every time I watch this flick. Admittedly, I’m not watching the thing every day and it isn’t quite as appalling as being FORCED to sit through previews but still…outrageous as all get out if you ask me.

Ok I’m done.

Disney is really bad about this too.

Its irritating to me, too. I like seeing the previews at the theatre, because it gives you time to settle in and let's you know what's coming up. But if I am at HOME I shouldn't have to deal with it. ESPECIALLY the ones that force you to watch them.

I usually press the menu button on my remote. if that doesn't work i tried the skip button and that did, but yes, i also get pissed to the peak of pisstivity when i can't skip previews... they're only good the first time you see them anyway.

ah...I had not tried the menu button. But even if that works I'll still be pissed. Righteous indignation is an emotion that I rather enjoy. :)

This drives me crazy too. I'm ok with it if you can just hit menu and it'll bring you up to the main screen, but there are the others that you actually have to let go thru the whole thing before you can get to the main screen. Those I usually just hit fastforward a couple of times so it whips thru them in a few sec, but it's still very annoying.

Oh I agree I hate it when they don't let me do that!

totally agree. I hate the previews on DVD's. I would like to go straight to the movie. On most of the DVDs that I have you can go straight to the main menu but some you have to sit through the previews which really burns my ass. I am not a very patient person

You know what's even more outrageous? LINEAR DVDs--those might as well be VHS tapes because there's no menu, no extra options other than the feature and whatever commercials might precede them....

Could not agree more, especially with the purchased DVD's. I paid my money, I should get to see what I paid for without having to sit through previews.

sometimes with dvds you can't skip you can press stop twice and then play to skip previews

Oh my god...oh my fuckin' god! I tried to press stop and it doesn't even let you do that. You can't even stop it! Once you start that dvd you have to sit through the previews or just unplug the dvd player! Just slap me in the face, Universal! Slap me with a big raw pork chop!

I've noticed that with porn dvds you can't fast forward... you can skip scenes tho... or maybe there's something wrong with my bf's remote......

Brice

It's the remote or the dvd player.

I'm not sure what the big issue is. We had previews in VHS for however long those were out and had to literally fast forward those. Hitting the menu button or skip a few times isn't that big of a hastle when you think ten years ago it'd take longer and be more annoying.

In terms of difference between buying and renting; they aren't going to produce separate DVD's, one free of previews just because.

In fact, many DVD's now just have a selection in the menu that says 'Upcoming Releases or Previews' you can click on if you want to see them.

You know what's even more outrageous? LINEAR DVDs--those might as well be VHS tapes because there's no menu, no extra options other than the feature and whatever commercials might precede them....

I think you'll find with these (most old DVD's are like this) and you have to hit the menu button to access these. Many old DVD's are made to start the movie right away. They are lacking special features (not that I care about those anyways) but the menu and options are all there.

Oh well, I guess if the previews annoying you that much you can use piracy to get your movies and help kill the industry more than it always has been.

That's not what I meant at all. I already said I was talking about DVDs that have NO menu and NO extra options other than the feature at all (I checked--I tried hitting the menu button, as you suggested, but NOTHING happened). And when the feature ended it didn't go to any menu either.

But there is something a little sinister about it, if you consider that with VHS you still had the option of even FFWding the casette without even having it on play first, and could go straight to the start of the movie pretty quickly. Having no option other than to not watch the dvd at all or look away from the screen when advertisements are on is a little ridiculous. I know its only for a minute or so but its still hijacking your viewing. Like those f#%^$%king popup ads on news sites etc THAT I DETEST BEYOND ALL MEASURE that are little flash animations and youve got to find the "close" option to get rid of it. I didnt ask to be raped in the face with a fucking ad.

With free to air I can understand - its a free service. DVDs you PAY for I think its rude to force ads.

Its not only movies, I have House seasons 1, 2, and 3 on DVD and forced adds are on each of of the first discs for each season. They're previews of T.V. series that Fox will be releasing.

I hate watching previews unless I'm in a movie theater. It drives me nuts when I'm watching a movie with someone and they won't skip the damn previews even though the movie is from 1995. :pullhair:
I'm like: "Oh wow..what's this? A limited edition release of The Little Mermaid?....It sucked the first time around! Hit the menu button already!"
