hello to everyone. we should be good to go for the first group read starting on june 3rd. here's how it will most likely work:

we're going to read a chapter at a time (with the gunslinger, the chapters are anywhere from 50-70 pages, so there's plenty of material to go over), one chapter every 2-3 days...maybe a little bit longer depending on how the conversation is going. there will be a new thread started for each chapter, with a short synopsis in the first post. please remember to mark any major spoilers with the spoiler boxes.

once we've finished the book, all of the threads will be merged, and we'll move on to the next one.

if anyone has any questions, you can ask them here.

see you june third!

thanks sarajean! I'm excited to get this going. I've downloaded the gunslinger onto my iPod so I can listen throughout the day! :D

I'm excited for this too, I haven't done a reread yet!

i heard we were starting with Little Sisters ??

sarajean
05-20-2007, 08:58 AM
well, that was a suggestion, but nothing was ever confirmed.

i was hoping to go with the order in which they were released...meaning that little sisters would be read inbetween wizard and glass and wolves of the calla, but if everyone wants to start with the little sisters of eluria, that'd be fine.

I can't wait for this to begin! :D

*edit* Holy cow I just realized this smilie's tooth sparkles. How cool is that?

Matt

I am up for either one. I think we could basically zoom through LSoE if we needed to or we can hit it in the middle.

Can't wait to start again--this will have to be like...12 for DotT.

MonteGss
05-20-2007, 04:31 PM
12! Wow.
If I count this listen re-read I'm currently doing, I've only maybe read them all say 3 or 4 times...

sarah
05-20-2007, 06:33 PM
I think we should read in order of release, imo.

Ruki
05-20-2007, 06:51 PM
in order of release sounds good to me too. the only reason to start with lsoe would be to try reading them in order of what events took place first, and that would be cool if it was possible but since most of wizard & glass is set way before the gunslinger it wouldn't work out right.

Matt
05-21-2007, 06:01 AM
Sounds good to me. Count me in :D

I am going to run to the library to see if I can get the gunslinger

sarajean
05-21-2007, 08:50 AM
you mean...*gasp* you don't own it?

my da got me the box set of the first 4 a few years ago and it's sitting on my desk here at work.

Dumb question time--which version of The Gunslinger?

Erin
05-21-2007, 02:02 PM
That's not a dumb question Bethany, I was wondering the same thing.

I've actually never read the revised version, I just looked online at the stuff that was changed.

sarajean
05-21-2007, 02:09 PM
i really don't think it matters. i'll be reading the revised edition, so that's what my synopsis will be based on. if you don't have something that's covered, you can just ask about it.

:D

Bethany
05-21-2007, 02:19 PM
Pfft. And risk having you lead me astray with false information? :P
I've got both so I'm covered.

sarajean
05-21-2007, 02:21 PM
that's, right, b. i'm out here to misrepresent the quest.

how did you figure it out?

please remember to mark any major spoilers with the spoiler boxes.

Actually, spoilers are not to be marked in this forum. The reason for this is that we want to have 100% open conversation about the books from the perspective of those who have already read it. Using the spoiler function will be a hinderance, and is also something that would cause a lot of busywork for us later on, since the transcripts of the reread will be archived and entered into the static content of the site at a later time. The only spoilers that must be marked are those that would give away the endings to any of King's other books.

So everyone can go wild!

Well sen and I are going to get stuck into this I'll wager.
We have therapists on standby.

Brice

I may have to skip this first reread or join in later on. Right now all my DT books except for W&G are in storage.

Erin
05-25-2007, 01:27 PM
Could you check them out at the library Brice?

I'm really looking forward to this, I've been thinking of re-reading for a while and this is a fun way to do it.

sarajean
05-27-2007, 08:20 AM
okay, um...new plan. i totally neglected to consult the calendar, and june first is no good for me.

i'm thinking the third.

Erin

Question: Are we trying to read a certain amount per day, or per week, or what? How is that going to work?

I'm just wondering, because there are certain days when I can read a lot, and then days like Monday when I doubt I'd have time to read anything at all. :(

Matt
05-29-2007, 12:32 PM
Personal opinion:

I think we should do like--a chapter a week. That would make it easy for every one involved to at least get that one done.

I also only have a limited amount of time to listen on a work day :(

i was thinking a chapter every 3-4 days, but if you guys want to set a slower pace, that's alright by me. i know that some people thought that was too slow, but i like the idea of having more discussion time before we move on.

also, to the person that changed the start date in the title...thank you. i was just about to do that, but it was already done.

Hannah
05-29-2007, 03:33 PM
I'm sure I'd be able to do a couple of chapters a week sj. I think that'd be a perfect pace to set.

Count me in, although, I'll probably have to jump in starting on 4th.
Will and I are temporarily without internet, BellSouth screwed us, so we ditched them...no dsl, not even a phone line (but we both have cells so that's ok)...I called the cable people, but apparently they have to rewire something (don't have cable, have DISH network). So anyway, the only place I have access to the world wide website and this here fancy site is at work.

Marty
05-31-2007, 12:41 AM
Blimey, it's going to take a hundred years to finish it all!

:cowboy:

All righty... where did we put our copy of Gunslinger?

Jeb? What do you mean "Toilet paper"?

We'll find it.

Brice
05-31-2007, 03:10 AM

I could if they had them all but they don't. Maybe I'll find a way.

aw. warm snugglies.

don't worry about not starting with us. the threads won't close and be merged until we're done with the book, so you have plenty of time to catch up. :D

I can't seem to find my copy of The Gunslinger after all the moving I have done since I originally read it. I found DotT though. :\

Erin
05-31-2007, 08:17 PM
I'm going to be reading the Revised Gunslinger when we start because I've never read it before. You can borrow my original Gunslinger if you want.

OchrisO

That sounds like a plan.

I'm totally prepared for this in that I am an English major, and my whole college life is based on the "read X pages of Y story before monday and discuss it" way of reading. :)

Matt
06-01-2007, 06:03 AM
I can't wait, my kid is bringing back my copies of the first four this weekend. :nana:

I'm kind of considering simply reading them, I can meet the time table I believe.

Just thought I'd post here that I have changed the name of this forum to The Mohaine Desert. Considering that we are all beginning the cycle again, I found it more apt. :P

sarajean
06-03-2007, 07:43 AM
have people already read the first chapter, or is everyone planning on starting it today?

if not everyone has it yet, i could use another day to prepare my synopsis, and give everyone more time to read...

get back to me.

i'm working on it in another window right now. once it's up, i'm thinking i'll close this thread, and start a new one for questions regarding the group read...either that, or just change the title of this one.

I just recieved my copy of the revised Gunslinger from darkthoughts:Thank You :huglove: . I'll be starting my reading today and catching up shortly.

I also found an audio file of the original so I may do a comparison and go through both the revised and original simultaneously again.
