I have to go with aurora because of the way he is looking away.

Daghain

I finally went with alinda's. There's just something about it I like. I think it's the kindly look on his face.

All brilliant but went with auroras in the end.

They are all very cool, but I liked aurora's the most. It's dark and it has great detail. Nice Work!!!

This was very hard to vote on. They are all great. I was torn between Heather19, Auroras and Hammes but finally went with Heather19.

How long do we have to consider? This is tough!

If you look at the poll, you will see it closes at 8:53 on 6/10.

Hey, I had a 7 day close, sue me.

It was tough. I ended up voting for Aurora's because he is looking away....and is at a distance. We don't see his face, and he remains a mystery to us. He exists only as a memory.

Cry pardon, sai. I looked at work and posted at home. I wasn't logged in at work. That information does not show if you are not logged in.

No worries. :D I was just giving you a hard time. :)

This was a tough one. There were a couple I was debating between, but finally decided to go with Aurora.

LOL! Hey Woofer! Zoom! *makes zooming motion over head*

You know I actually went back and checked as both logged in and not to see if I was blind (oh ha ha, to see if... nevermind).

I have voted alinda's: it may not be the most perfect, but it is Pat Delgado, as I imagine him, and not someone abstract horseman. I alerady expanded in that other thread how much I like the presence of the horses in that picture where there are none, or those white specks that somehow make me remember that he died.

I loved Aurora's and Alinda's and Heather's horse was beautiful, but I ended up voting for Chris, his(hers? cry pardon I know not what gender you be) depicted Pat as I imagined him; an obvious horseman who looks his work and has a kind yet disciplined look about him.

I'm a dude. Thanks for the vote. :)

I voted for Hammer. His Pat has the right look about him, to me, of a man who spends his days outdoors and working hard.

aurora

Thanks all, right now I'm not only humbled but even a little sad that Heather is not getting more votes, her work is incredible!

Funny you mention that as that is EXACTLY what I was thinking of as I sketch it out. We have no real descriptions of him, we only know we was a good and honest horseman that loved the open range and he is only mentioned, for the most part, as shadow memories from Susan. Therefore I thought his power and grace was in his very lack of description.

No worries Aurora. I'm surprised I even got those 2 votes. I'm really bad at drawing people, and my Pat does looks kinda bad.

I have to agree about the feel of your sketch, I think that's why I was drawn to it as well, there's a mystery about it. I really like it. And if you ever do anything more with it, I'd love to see it.

Actually he's pretty dang good. Two things to watch for if doing a head shot like this one again is the neck. While its true some people do have long and/or thick necks, when it comes to drawing you want to under-exaggerate them to get them to look right. Here the only place I would have worked on with the neck though as around the lower jaw area.
The other, the bane to most 3D modelers, is the ears. They are ALWAYS a pita to do, hence why you often see lots of ways to simply hide them. Sure its the whimps way out but its also a perfectly valid one too. In your case neither are all that bad either. All in all your Pat is really good but your horse, your horse is great!

This was another tough one. I think everybody did a great job with these, and it was interesting to see so many people's ideas of what Pat looks like. In the end, I went with Hammer's. I think that one really captures the whole horseman vibe perfectly, and the look of Pat himself is a lot like I see him in my mind. Very nice work! :)

aurora
06-11-2008, 11:11 AM
Wow, that really should not have been so one sided on the votes as there was a couple of other REALLY GOOD ones besides mine. Never-the-less I say Thankee Sai's.
As excited about this as I am I have to admit I'm 100x more excited to hear about the next challenge.

Plus right now I'm working on a model that will later translate in to an uber cool Oy model which I'm absolutely stocked on as the one I have right now I'm not really all that happy with.

I'm still debating what I want to do next - I need to drop a few more articles in the Towerpedia this week, and we'll see.

Of course Lisa's on the same brainwave as me and has been cruising along on the Connections, giving me editing work.

Sadly, if I'm expected to bring the vengeance though it will end up looking like bad stick figures drawn by a drunk two year old.

Nope, the two year old's stick figures would be better. :(

Dude seriously my sketching sucks way worse then that compared to what I can do with 3D/CG. But you know what these challenges give me the perfect opportunity to try and get back to the level I was at eons ago. You just gotta love these challenges!
