We went for the sonnogram this morning, and our baby is a GIRL!!!!!

We are both very excited. She is progressing very well so far and everything looks good and where it is supposed to be. Due date is still approx June 3rd. I'm just glad I no longer have to think of my own child as "it." Now it's "she." As far as names go, hers will very likely be Ella Rose.

Exactly Maerlyn. I spoke to my mom this morning to tell her the news. Apparently my parents found a great baby store near them last weekend and wanted to start throwin' down the money but couldn't yet. Now she can't wait to go back out to that store.

I'm just happy I don't have to think of/refer to my baby as an "it" anymore. Now it's a she.

That's great T!! I will be sure to explain to her all the intricacies of being one of Roland's lawyers, and as far as politics goes, with parents like myself and my wife, this child will never vote for a major party politician.

And thank you Brice!!!!

jayson
01-14-2008, 04:24 AM
Thanks Zone & Erin! Of all of the names we'd considered, Ella Rose was the one that my wife kept coming back to over and over again. It was the consensus fav among my family as well. And so there is no doubt, the Rose is for "The Rose" from the DT books as my wife and I are both Tower junkies. Our King collections were the first thing we realized we had in common.

Hey now I hardly think that my culinary interest in your daughter's placenta is worthy of the firing squad. Now...if you were going to save it for something I could understand some irritation. I mean, your wife might want save it so she can take a bite out of it if she starts to hemorrhage. Or she might want it for afterwards to help treat her postpartum depression. I certainly wouldn't want to rob her that. :)

So I ask those with children; If you could share one piece of insight what would you pass on?

P.S. Beneath the excitement is a nervous wreck :pullhair:

Don't give your kid a name that will humiliate him later or make people think you're a moron. My one friend got pregnant and they were like, "if it's a boy, we're naming him Lestat!" I almost cried. After that, they wanted to name the kid after X-Men. Luckily they had a girl.

so they named her Storm, right? :D

:P They named her Lisselle Serene. Weird, definitely, but they were 19 and 21, and I was just so relieved it wasn't Lestat I didn't care much anymore. I call her Lissie.

Spank your kids. Everyone I know who was spanked turned out fine. All these kids who aren't go and blow shit up or turn out really spoiled.

I told her a long time ago if we have one we have two, but we'll never have 3. That's why I'm getting a vasectomy, I don't trust her getting her tubes tied. :ninja:

i do have to have my wife agree with my choices also.

I like Johnathan for a boy, Natalie for a girl. The way we did it with my first daughter is I chose one name and she chose a middle name. So our first is Faith Keelani Baca, our second we're not sure yet.

But you may have just tested too early.

What they always tell you is take the first day of her last period, go back three months and add seven days...that will give you an approximate due date...

Due Dates are for the birds anyways! My first was due July 7th and showed up June 18th; second was due Sept 7th and decided to make an appearance on Sept 25th. My twins were due Sept 4th and Dr said Mama we need to prod 'em along and helped push 'em out on Sept 7th. That was closeest to the due date but only cuz the Dr said my wife was already too big! Full term twins on a 5'2" frame with combined birth weight of 15 lbs! By the way their combined weight now is 350 pounds! :-)

when was her given Due Date? My wife chose to have the labor induced 3 days after her due date, because it was convenient for us. It worked out fine. off tangent for a second - I watched a doco called "The Business of Being Born" - very interesting, about the US Hospital -vs- home birth / birthing centre / midwife methods. It gives insight into the pros and cons of both, but its leaning is pro-midwifery - Ricki Lake produced it after having two kids, one in either system.

I think most people try to get women to not give birth in hospitals because hospitals do so much damn invasive stuff that's completely unnecessary. I'd opt for a home birth myself when I eventually have kids, except I want the best painkillers money can buy. But yeah, I'm terrified of IVs, not being able to eat or drink, episiotomies, and horrible, unsympathetic bitch doctors like my friend had. Also I'm afraid I'll get one of those creepy new-agey midwives who don't brush their hair and dangle crystals over your belly or something. :ninja:

on a plus note, we went to the doc the other day and found out we're 9 weeks preggers, which is 6 weeks more than we thought we were!

it seems the last time my wife went to the Doc because she felt ill they told her she wasn't pregnant, but she was. Then they gave her medication to make her have a period, but she still never did. That's when our home test said we were pregnant. So we figured about 3 weeks, and nope, we were wrong. The docs were wrong too.

Jesus JB, could that have endangered the baby?

I hadn't thought about that until you guys brought it up, now i'm scared. I have to ask the doctor next time I see her. It was just something to make her ovulate which in turn was supposed to induce her period, as far as I understand.

Oh ok - i didn't mean to make you panic or anything

I wouldn't worry unless your doctor is worried when it comes to stuff like this :)

My son appears to be a not-giraffe, and also not a dragon. For this I am super thankful!

Brunobrun, you should eat the doctor. That is what I would do.

o_o although lately I want to eat everybody. yarrrmmm.

My mom wants a baby in the family, but she somehow wants me to pull this off without getting married (religious family) or getting pregnant.:orely:

I really don't want kids.

Belated congratulations from me to you. I can also help you find a good price on a 12ga. shotgun and will even recommend a brand, Mossberg. Invest early to beat the rush when she's 15.

I have a Winchester 1300, and it's much better than the Mossberg. My daughter is still a baby but I'm already getting ready to tomboy her out. :D

Hunting trips with dady? ALRIGHT!

Damn the hassel. When that first little boy shows up you pull him aside and explain the facts of life to him.
Facts:
1. If you make her cry, I make you cry
2. If you pull up to the house and honk, you better be dropping off a package because you will not be picking anything or anyone up.
3. I am the merciless and all-knowing GOD of your universe. If you do anything, I will know it and act accordingly.
4. You shall not touch any place that is or should be covered with clothing. To do so will result in the loss, at a minimum, of the offending fingers.
5. I have a shotgun, a shovel, and 5 acres.
6. I have no problem going BACK to prison.
7. I also have a wood chipper.
8. She will be home on time or I will be forced to report to the police that you have kidnapped her. It will then be their responsibility to find you before I do.
9. I am the gatekeeper. If you should find a way inside the garden by going around the gatekeeper, you will have to pay the penalty.
10. If you harm my daughter, no place on this world or the next will save you from my wrath. That is not a threat, it is a guarantee.

They will be good sisters and when they get bigger and they have a problem they will go to each other and not to you. ;)
Congratulations!
Anyway you should send some more pics of the little one.

Oh, that is so NOT true!!!

My son is the sweet little thing...til his sister pisses him off and then lies about it and has a temper tantrum cause we don't believe that she DIDN'T do it!!!

My daughter so has to be the exception to that rule!

That's why I am hoping this bean is a boy! I like them better! :wtf:

So, Karen - are you going to find out which it is before the birth or just wait and be surprised?

Based on your post I think I already know the answer, but figured I should ask anyway.

JB, I know you really wanted a boy. But, I also know you will totally love your new daughter when she is here.

Just remember, a healthy child is truly a blessing...and, you MAY get some really cool son-in-laws out of the deal. You never know.

Be happy you get a ten-fingers-ten-toes baby, regardless of sex. Just keep in mind how cool you think some of us .com chicks are - I'm pretty sure your daughters will grow up to be people I would LOVE to hang out with. :)

I'm not saying I'm displeased, but I did want a set, and since I've decided to get a vasectomy it's kinda sad that I'll never have a son. But I love my daughter, and I'm sure that I'll love the new one as well. And it's precisely the thought of all them soulless and evil boys that has me worried.

Sarah, my brother and I are super close now, and we hated each other growing up too. Funny, ain't it?

Yeah, you'd better start cleaning the guns now, man...those girls are going to grow up pretty fast.

And, for future reference, here are 10 rules for dating my daughter (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3456/h_rulesdating.html).
