razz: do you know something we don't?

razz
05-12-2008, 06:25 AM
it's really not that hard. there is a certain reccuring theme in the books, right.
the Tet has held two glasses. one is black thirteen. the other the Grapefruit. Wheat number do you think Pinky is?

were all the rainbow colors even numbered in the first place. with the exception of black 13, I was under the impression that they were not in any order.

Exactly. Bring on the shovel!

wait a second, I'll look up one place in W&G

EDITED: I meant Wizard's Gate, where the bars represented the Rainbow. Didn't find anything conclusive there.

they were never given any specific number, but it was implied. But if they were to give them definitive numbers, which one would 73h grapefr00t be?

Uhhh, 9?

05-12-2008, 12:04 PM
I don't think there is a number for it, but if I had to guess, Maybe number 3

Wait--is it 6?

*isn't just guessing and actually has a reason for posing that number*

I think you are going to need a very big shovel.

Easy--it has to do with 19 (Duh!).

19 - 13 (Black Thirteen) = 6!

And thank you! :D

Even with J&Y showing his math, I still don't get it.
I mean, I understand that 19-13=6, but I don't get where you come by the equation in the first place. It seems quite random.

19 is a recurring theme throughout The Dark Tower stories, specifically the revised version of Volume I, plus Volumes V, VI, and VII.

Black Thirteen has a number already attached to it, namely 13. The other glass balls would have numbers 1-12, since there are only thirteen.

The Grapefruit is the only other glass the ka-tet come across, so it has to complete the 19 theme, since there were only 13 balls period.

And how to do that? By having attached to it the number 6.

6 (Grapefruit) + 13 (Black Thirteen) = 19!

It's not random at all, unless you haven't read all the Dark Tower volumes....

I wouldn't be so quick to judge John and Yoko, as you seem fond of doing. Jayson (R of G) is quite versed in the volumes, and your reasoning still isn't sound. What if its just Roland's 19th loop, or some other theory? Its never explicit in the volumes. If that is the case, then you've made analytical numbers still subjective rather than the other way around. It seems to be contrary to your "sound" mathematical reasoning.

Also, Black 13 is named such because it is the nexus of the beams. It has nothing to do with "19."

I'm not "judging"--anyway, razz already said I was right. I don't know if it has anything to do with King's intent, but it did have to do with razz's interpretation of it.

Way to rain on my parade.... :(

Firstly, that is flawed reasoning on its face. There is nothing that suggests everything has to fit into the "19 theme," the glass balls or otherwise. By this logic, shouldn't the tet have 18 members? 19 minus one for Roland equals 18, right?

As for the so-called "19 theme" itself, there is nothing suggesting that it means anything other than, combined with the 99, pointing to the year and date of Stephen King's accident. EVERYTHING else about 19 is just a theory. Some are more cohesive theories than others, but they are all just speculation. Nowhere at any point is it suggested that 19 is a theme to which all things within the series must conform.

Why is everyone getting mad at me?

I didn't even come up with this stupid idea....

Now I wish I'd never bothered answering it....

My initial question was actually to Razz. Like I said, I know where you came up with the 19-13=6, I just didn't know why Razz thought it was reason to believe the Grapefruit was #6. Your response led me to address you as well. Now stop crying. :)

I know, I know I get too sensitive about things, and I shouldn't....

I was just so proud of myself for getting the answer right, but instead of people going "Oh, THAT'S right! Good job!" I get nitpicking and criticism from everyone, and the only one who's on my side is the one who came up with the question in the first place....

Put yourself in my shoes and tell me you wouldn't feel like that--at least a little bit.

Were I in your shoes, I'd probably not have made the suggestion that someone else didn't read the entire series because they challenged the validity of a question.

That was a good way to come up with the number six for the grapefruit. But I still don't think the glass balls were numbered. Sorry

I didn't mean that as an insult--I don't know you, and I don't know how much of something anyone's read. I just thought you were confused and was trying to explain myself the best I could. Obviously I was wrong, I get that now, but I wasn't trying to insult you.

And mia/susannah, I don't know if they were numbered specifically either (other than Black Thirteen), but I just had fun trying to guess at what it MIGHT have been (according to razz's logic)--until now.

John & Yoko is right. We should be picking on Razz. It was his question.
No harm done J&Y, you're still alright with me.

Thank you. I'm not really upset with anyone anymore (though still a little disappointed, and confused that anyone bothered trying to answer the question at all if they really think all that....).

And mia/susannah, I don't think you particularly said anything to upset me, so there's nothing for you to apologize for. But thanks for your concern anyway. :)

For my part, I don't really "believe" or "disbelieve" anything, I just take it at face value and might like to speculate in areas where something's unclear.

well it seems like razz got his question answered.
