who would you like to be?
Let me know if I should add something to the poll.

I'd want to be a vampire/can-toi, kind of a cross-breed of my two favorite Discordian creatures. But I had to choose 'vampire' because I love them a little more. Especially The Grandfathers. :harrier:

"a simple folk"

Wuducynn

Yeah, you're not "simple" in the slightest, Jean.

I'd have to vote Gunslinger.

i doubt anyone is surprised that i voted Gunslinger

Wuducynn

I am, I thought for sure you would vote 'taheen'. A duck-headed one specifically.

Jean

with such a lot of Gunslingers around, someone has to be "simple". Anti-elitist. Wandering about and reminding people that when the Power (of gun or authority) usurps the Truth, something must be wrong; that there should be both the Power of the Strong and the Truth of the Weak, or the world will never cease moving on.

(I will pray my anti-elitism won't bring me to Farson's side... but no, I'll make my home at River Crossing, where I will return now and then, and those sane and noble people will keep me from evil)

And I'll be right along to sneak around you and put a banana peal in front of you, so you can slip and fall and I can run away screaming laughter.

I voted to be "a simple folk." I'd explain why, but its complicated. :D

Wuducynn

I was thinking you were more of a Nigel the Butler type.

Jean

the point is, of course, in being disarmed in the face of all them gunslinging; gullible while they kill anyone who "sneaks" on them; firmly believing in your God while they are confused in their ka, Gan, magic, and a dozen half-forgotten entities; and, at last, not minding being laughed at before them deadly tragic.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I gotcha, Callahan.

As the poll says who would you like to be I voted for a gunslinger but since I don't have the speed or agility to be one I most likely fail the test and be sent west :scared:.

Brainslinger

I think I'd like to be either a Breaker or Gunslinger. When I say Breaker, I'm not saying I'd like to actually break the beams though (although I would possibly be caught up in the good feeling vibe,) but a potential breaker, someone with some kind of special gift would be cool.

I wouldn't want Brautigan's thought lance though. Whilst I'm quite a gentle soul really, my mind does go to dark places sometimes, and I'd hate to think that thinking a dark thought might give some one a brain hemorrhage. Even if it requires focusing one's mind a certain way to send out the 'lance' I'd probably find myself doing it just cos I could. Not that I'd want to kill anyone, but because I don't want to. Ironically, I would find it easy to resist blowing away someone with a gun (in fact no resistance would be required, unless they killed my friends of course... even then, I'm not wired that way), but the mind... well thats different. It'd be like one of those mind-traps Roland speculates about in the Gunslinger, i.e. if someone tells you that thinking about your mother naked will make you hell-bound, you'll likely find yourself thinking about it. I guess I must be pretty warped.

A form of TK that requires more effort than sending out a thought, or something in line with what Dinky or Sheemie does, would be cool though.

I am shocked noone has chosen Child Of Roderick.

Yeah, we have too many gunslingers. I would like to be a child of Roderick.

Perhaps the Manni should be included.

I voted for gunslinger, not because I particularly want to carry a gun and go aroung fighting and killing bad people or things. I would like to have seen some of the things that the gunslingers saw.

I chose "simple folk." That just describes me best--it's like, if I were in Middle-earth I'd want to be a hobbit.

A Gunslinger, of course.:shoot:

Is there any question which I chose?

I, after all, will be playing Roland in the dt.com movie/audio adaptation of The Dark Tower. So, yes, I would like to be a gunslinger.

(C'mon! You'd be worshipped! You'd be a king among men! You'd be timeless, not to mention the fact that you probably had the most awesome training around.)

Darkthoughts

I'd go for breaker. As Brainslinger said on the previous page - its not the breaking down of the beams that attracts me, but the powers themselves. I'd like to think I'd give the low men a good run for their money too before I'd ever end up in Blue Heaven ;)

Edit: cool, I just took the votes up to 19

i think that the manni rule (n so far im the one vote for em) theyre like a combination of budhism and doctor-who, word traveling mystic is the job 4 me, remember roland and his (2nd) ka tet r the only gunslingers 2 travel the way the manni do, id want to travel the multiverse

The Lady of Shadows

but you know liz, other than oy i don't think bumblers lead very good lives. so it'd be kind of sad to be a bumbler in a way. :(

It looks like everybody was being killed off or scared of muties, scared of being poisoned, and many other disasters, pillaging, etc.,. how were they really that happy?

For my part I often felt Roland's world truer than ours... I might be sick to feel this way but that's the truth.
I am sure the people in the Calla could be happy when they didn't think of their curse.
The way I see it people can be happy and sad anywhere.

Wuducynn
10-30-2008, 10:30 PM
I'm with Liz on this, I don't think most of the folk in Mid-World are happy with everything falling apart at the seams. The Callas seem like the exception, with the exception to that being the Wolves stealing their kids every generation.

Letti
10-30-2008, 10:43 PM
And how do we know there are no more many villages like the Calla?

Wuducynn
10-30-2008, 10:51 PM
Well we can only go by what Roland has said and what we see throughout the series. There might be other communities that are happy but it seems not. By the way there are many Callas remember?

Brice

Yes but NOBODY really lived a great life from what we saw...

I'd say a hard life and a bad life are distinctly different. And a great life can be both greatly good and greatly bad. I'm sure they had lives filled with both joy and sorrow, as all of us do.

Same here. And they know so much more than anyone else does anyway so why only 2 manni and so many gunslingers ? This totally lacks logic, doesn't it ?
I have to admit I had a hard time choosing between the 2, though.

Letti

I couldn't live like a Manni. I can't live without roots.. I know they have roots and they know where they belong to but they are big travellers and I can't imagine myself as a big traveller. I love travelling but it couldn't be my lifestyle.

stone, rose, unfound door
11-04-2008, 06:26 AM
I love travelling as I've told you and it could actually be my lifestyle as long as I stayed enough time in one place to become familiar with it. Anyway, the Manni interested me a lot because they're way more knowledgeable than all the other creatures in Roland's world.
