View Full Version : Contest #9 - Pat Delgado

Daghain
05-06-2008, 09:12 PM
I know some of you have to be up for this - I need to do a couple of contests for people, as I have way more of them I need artwork for than I do places or things. I'll try to mix it up as best I can. :)

This contest is for Pat Delgado. The article can be found here (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=1839), and should at least give you a starting point.

Please read the Contest Posting Guidelines if you haven't already, and have fun!

Contest will be open until June 3, 2008.

Winner: aurora

I don't think lack of talent should preclude anyone from entering the contest(s), it certainly hasn't stopped me! :D

Oh please. You have made some awesome artwork to display. I lack talent.....therefore, I could only give stick figure versions of Pat Delgado.

Stick figures can be cool, check this out: Stick Figure Theatre (of DEATH!) (http://www.sfdt.com/) :P

I just flat can't do people but I really hope this gets some good response. I personally will always picture Pat Delgado as Dora's father Pat Bresette

Dark haired, large man. Died way too soon.

Daghain
05-07-2008, 07:53 PM
You know, you can do just about anything - you don't really need drawing skills. You can do a collage, like I said earlier (just don't use copyrighted material), or take an existing picture (one you have rights to, of course!) and do some Photoshopping or picture effects on it, or anything like that. You could even take a photograph of something you think represents the subject. The world is your oyster.

WE CAN??? now i am tempted to take photos of myself crossdressing as red-bearded horse breeder.

i will draw for this art prompt if others participate as well, because it's no fun to play alone.

Yeah, done with classes and no Summer classes this year (well maybe but not till July) so I'm deff in on this one. Sorry for the lack of effort on the last two, 30 hours per day of work plus 30 hours per day of school stuff = 60 hours of crap to cram into 24 hours a day. It obviously did not work to well for me. I sure hope Susie is doing this one too. That last one rocked my world!

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_grin.gif but you see what I mean, right? I didn't want it to sound like an interpretation of a piece of conceptual art, God forbid... only to try to convey that feeling that Lady Linda managed to get all Pat's story here without actually putting anything in the picture.

ManOfWesternesse
05-23-2008, 12:21 AM
Actually yes Jean, and I agree.
Some of it is Pat, some of it is the background. That broken down looking fence helps, and the dusty ground fading back to rising hills with a thread of green (a river back there?) in the background.
There's a lot that's authentic about this pic methinks. More than a first glance might convey.

So, it has been years and years since I have actually done any drawing. I started sketching around on this earlier. I'm not sure where it will go from here as far as coloring and such goes. This is just a rough sketch and I am already kind of hating it. Also, I don't know if I will be able to finish it in time for the contest, but anyway, here's a work in progress of sorts on my vision of Pat Delgado:

Hi everybody. I'm a noob here, but when I stumbled on this contest, I felt the urge to try my hand at it. Anyway, here is my attempt at ol' Pat.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w285/Hammerofthegods32/patdelgadocopy.jpg

I drew Pat, but soon found I had no ability drawing horses. So I jazzed up Pat in photoshop and then used a pic of a horse and threw a filter on it. Same with the blue sky.

Haha. That's probably true. I'm very self critical in all matters of art. Thanks, though. I worked on it a bit more tonight. I have his jeans mostly finished and colored. Definately keep at it Chris. I'm extremely critical of the stuff that I draw as well. I find that I tend to hate it when I start, and get very temted to just trash it (which I do alot), but if I keep with it, the closer it gets to being finished, the more I like it.

To be honest, I'm not really feeling the one I'm working on either. I really like how the horse came out, but can't stand the guy. I've redone his hair several times now, and it still doesn't look right. But regardless I'll get it posted soon.

Alright. Here is my submission i've been working on for a couple days.

First of all, let it be said I'm no artist, so don't laugh too hard.

Second, my scanner didn't do it justice. I'll try to re-scan it on a nice, fancy scanner on campus in the next couple days. Also....shoud I get some colored pencils and color it in? I have no idea if it would make it look better, or mess it up. I'd appreciate suggestions.

Here's my version of Pat. I picture him as a happy-go-lucky, jolly man, always laughing and smiling.

Working on my third rendition for this challenge. My sketching SUCKS! But this one is better then the last two and way better then the one I was working on for the Reaptide Festival which was so bad (by my standards anyways) I never posted it. This new one will be posted sometime tomorrow.
Love the work every body has done some of the best to date, all of them!!!!

Crap and now my graphics tablet does not want to work. This is the first time I've tried to use it since I reformatted my drive. Looks like you'll have to suffer a really crappy pencil sketch instead of a cleaned up and colored sketch. Man I just can't get anything working for these challenges. But at least I'm having fun looking at everyones else's work and fun doodling away while working and thats all that counts

OK, Normally there is not a chance in heck that I would post something like this as its nothing more then a crude 20-30 minute sketch which was meant for an outline to do up properly in PS. But since my tablet is totally dead and my vendor won't send me my next one till Aug (Siggraph week when the new one comes out) I'm kinda REALLY screwed. But due to the nature of the wonderful viewers here who could care less that I can't freehand anything to save my life I'll go ahead and post anyways. You guys allow me to have fun and I say Thankee Sai's for that!

Please don't count this as final yet as I may try and get an el-cheapo one tomorrow morning to hold me till Aug so I can at least get work done.

Firstly thanks for the kind comments and that image is going to have to be my final image. While I did get an cheap little tablet yesterday I had no time to work on it last night and won't have any today either.

In just under the line, it seems. It went to crap when I started coloring it, but here is the finished product:

So, did anyone notice that mine was heavily inspired by Clint Eastwood's character in A Fistful of Dollars, only without the gunbelt, add the rope and change the face? haha
