Versions of this have been banging around in my head for months (clue?). Good to see familiar faces from the .net days.

It's one of my usual "cryptic" efforts. Easy?...

Half of half, or half a laugh
Half of half of half of half
A wildebeest, not a giraffe
van Gogh had one, shouldn't laugh!

half of half of half of half = anything to do with quarters or eighths, or fractions of the letters in these?

Indeed!

Van Gogh had only one ear,
he cut his other one off to
get the attention of a woman.
Though how this could help
I do not know.

Yes you do alinda! You've just solved the last part of the riddle

I should have explained... the answer's a well-known phrase, more than one word, split into four phonetic syllables, each one represented by each line of the riddle. So the last (phonetic) syllable is indeed "ear".

Man, that sounds complex :beat:

1. F or eff?
2. Half of a half is a quarter, half of that is an eighth, and half of that is a 16th
3. er... short?

Heh heh!

1 and 3... nope.

2 - 16th... yep (in a way), but 16th what? :orely:

Happy New Year?

This has been bumping around in your head since December of last year? :)

How does the second line come to be P

boq

It sure has... all lined up for New Year across at the .net, but it just never materialized and it just got later and later and...

Well done Gaberax... my goose is cooked

Good joint effort guys - and of course a very belated HAPPY NEW YEAR!

***Gaberax carves up the goose into 6 equal pieces. Keeping one, he hands one each to Mr. Seek, alinda, Rjeso, Maturin's Daughter and LadyHitchhiker. ***
