My first ride was a 1978 Chevy Malibu.

Funny, my wife and I were just discussing this very topic on the way home from work today.

My first car was a 1972 Mercury Marquis. What a POS that car was, I bought it from my stepfather in 1982 or 83, hell might have been '84

It had a 429 and after I managed to tear the muffler off you could hear me coming from miles away... :D

We had a flood in Tulsa a few months after I had the car and it was ruined (well, more ruined I guess) by water damage so I had to sell it for scrap metal, I think I got about $40 :panic: which I spent on weed :P

My first car was a black 1997 Ford Taurus. I loved that car to death.

I bought it from my dad's company for $2,000. I was so proud I was able to buy it completely myself with saved up babysitting money.

It died a few years later when the transmission exploded or something.

'81 chevy citation.
for some reason, it was the "moo mobile".
i bought it from my grandfather.
it had no air or FM radio, the top layer of paint was gone
and i tried to wax it to bring back the gloss but the
wax just soaked in to the paint so the end result was a swirly effect.

My first car was a 1981 Chevy Malibu. It could be a real piece of crap sometimes, but I loved that car. I still remember the feel of the maroon vinyl bench seat that was somehow in perfect condition, even though the rest of the car seemed to be falling apart. And I loved the feel of driving it....so smooth. It had that "old car" smell that I miss so much. I hated having to eventually get rid of it, but I needed something more reliable. It got real old real fast having to call someone to pick me up each time it died on me. Every time I see an old Malibu drive by, I get a little sore spot in my heart. It's my dream to have another one eventually....one that runs, of course.

I know what you mean Girly. One of these days I'd like to find another 78 Malibu and fix it up. I really loved that car. I dont know if its just because it was my first car or because it was a really nice ride, probably a little of both.

1988 Dodge Omni. I bought for 250.00 bucks. It ran pretty well, but I traveled too much and it broke down during one of my infamous road trips. I ended up taking the tag off and just leaving it at a gas station while hitch hiking the last leg of my trip.

I'm not sure I remember the model.
It was blue, 5 speed ( I did'nt know
how to drive it so I bought it to learn)
I think it may have been a Chevy.
Early 70's.Traded it for a Camaro in 79
I had figured out that trasmission by then.
Now that car I miss . My b/f got so many
speeding tickets in it...yeah!

My mother had a '75 that I used to steal, er borrow, frequently. I loved that car and wish I could find one in decent condition now. They were freakin fast with just the stock motor!

I've never owned a car.

Don't feel bad, I never had a car that cost more than a few hundred dollars until I was 34 or 35. I wouldn't have one now (well the payments anyway) if I didn't need one.

My sister has a 2000 SE Grand Prix. I had to borrow it once when my car broke down and my gosh I loved that car. It could MOVE!

I barely had to tap the gas pedal and it just jumped forward with no effort.

Dad bought it off the showroom floor. He handed it off to me when I was old enough to drive. It's in storage now. Gotta get it out and restore it.

*jumps into the wayback machine*

Mine was a '76 four-door Malibu Classic that my father bought new. I bought it from him for $1000, and it took me MONTHS to pay that car off! I gave him $100/month from my $200/month crap McDonald's job.

It was of course, as good as brand new, because my dad was a freak about his cars. I LOVED that car. I could totally blow the doors off about anything out there that wasn't a sports car.

Mine was a '76 Ford Escort (Mark II) - bought second-hand in 1980 when I was 18. (Had it delivered as I had not a clue how to drive it (only prior experience was was the farm tractor ). Taught myself to drive it (crashed & busted the front wing after a week - but after that I got on fine).
That was a great little car!

I haven't bought a car yet but use my brothers car/van that he doesn't use anymore. It's a 94 2 seater Peugeot 307 XAD 1.9 diesel. I just learn to drive 5 years ago because up to then every job I had previous was with in a 15 minutes walking distance. The job was about 22 miles away and had a lift there but he was getting married and moving so he wouldn't be passing my way anymore and I liked the job at the time and the money was really good so I didn't want to loose it and have to look for another job. So I took some lessons and intended to buy a small car but my brother said I could use the van if I kept it in good condition. So I did and haven't looked back since. In the 5 years that I've been driving it, it has never broken down on me but has been broken in to twice and the last time cost me nearly €300 to get new locks and repair the electrics that was fucked by the SOBs when they yanked out the stereo and and when they tried to hot wire it. I absolutely love that car. I wish I learned to drive in my younger days as it gives you a great independence. I also just passed my driving test the first time last November. The longest 20 minutes of my life.

That's a cool story!

I learned to drive in an old Chevy Luv pickup truck and my Dads 1970 Camero--very different experiences to be sure.

The camero would do 0 to 100 mph in a 1/4 mile of dirt road.

The first car I ever owned was a Toyota Turcel--1989.

Well my first car was a 1965 Rambler Classic - most of you don't even know what a Rambler is! :) I wanted to buy a 1968 Camaro but my grandfather (my legal guradian) wouldn't go for it even though I had the cash - that was 1969 and I was 16 years old! OK I googled it and here it is http://www.essex1.com/people/speer/65class.jpg Mine was brown with a white roof. Had a 232 cu in engine and could barely get out of its own way! My grandfather figured I couldn't drive very fast in it! What he didn't know was that the old Ramblers had a benchseat that when pulled forward all the way could be cranked back and it fit into a bed. I couldn't speed but I did have a party car!

I totalled that car when I was 17 - got hit broadside by a drunk lawyer going about 100 mph in a brand new Plymouth Fury III. I was 17 and got blamed - one drunk laawyer + one state trooper friend of the lawyer = 1 screwed teenager!

Three months later I bought a 1970 Camaro! :-)

Thinking about cars I have had a few as follows:

'65 Rambler
'70 Camaro
'64 Chevelle Malibu
'65 Chevelle Malibu
'73 Malibu
'79 Toyota SR5 Pick Up Truck
'85 Ford Tempo
'89 Chevy S10 Pick Up Truck
'89 Chevy Astro Van
'95 Chevy Astro LT Van
'98 Saturn
'99 Mitsubishi Gallant
'03 Impala
'03 Chevy Avalanche Truck
'99 Grand Prix

I can't even list all the ones I owned - for a long time I belonged to the "piece of crap car of the month" club - the worst one being a Datsun B210 that started out white until someone tried to spray paint it blue. They did the trunk, the roof and half the hood.

Mine was a 1989 red Honda Prelude with 4 wheel steering. I loved it so...I loved it even more than the 1997 one I have had for 10 years.

And AHTCK, I'm thinking of taking over my dad's 2006 Grand Prix GTX V8....it's so sweet, however the car payments are $450 a month and I have to go get it in Alabama and drive back to Vegas....I have about 24 hours to make up my mind or mom's turning it in tomorrow. What to do what to do? She'll keep for as long as it takes to get back there, I just have to make May's payment by the 15th.
