John. Sorry, but I love the irony of the pawn shop. Its perfect. I really dig it.

Jean
03-24-2008, 12:24 AM
oh, I loved John's, too! only I don't think it really fits the Towerpaedia, you see, that's why I voted Candice's. It seems perfect to me.

heather.
I like aurora's horn the best but I'm thinking total picture in terms of how it would look in Towerpedia.

this was among the toughest to choose so far. great work everybody! in the end, i went with Heather's.

Heather got my vote. It was a tough choice between her's, Jean's, Rjeso's, and Candace. I think they all captured the essence of the horn beautifully. Aurora's work was excellent, but I have a soft spot for the hand-drawn stuff (which I desperately wish I had the talent to do myself :( ). And not to leave John out I thought his was hilarious and definitely deserves honorable mention

I'm also on the heather train, but I had to think about all weekend!

Everyone did a great job. :D

Jean

I am deep in love with Heather's horn, - it is so heartbreakingly beautiful, and the quality of the drawing is superb; my only problem with it was that I couldn't see it as battlehorn; misty, romantic, fragile as it feels, I was unable to imagine it on Jericho Hill. Candice's is simple, a little naive, so for me it holds that primeval force a battlehorn must hold; I almost see it splattered with blood.

Voted Jean. Beautiful piece of work!

It is a tough choice, this contest rocked it. Heather does lovely work, but I liked the aged look of Jean's piece.

John Blaze

my second choice was Laura's, but we only get one vote...

Jean
03-24-2008, 07:23 AM
so was my second choice, yes, for the reasons I tried to explain above. It looks old, and it looks like it belongs in a battlefield.

This was hard to vote on because everyone done such great work. I finally went with aurora's. I was more drawn to it. Everyone done a great job.

It's a pity that there can only one winner as they are all great entries but I went with auroras. Not sure why but it was the one that I kept going back to the most often.

My heart is aching when I think of the fact that only one person can win.
Or more exactly we all win... seeing such great pieces of art is a gift.

I like how you think, Letti.

And all the submissions are up in the gallery. The link is on the front page of Towerpedia! All you have to do is go there whenever you want to see them. :)

That's exactly it. Fans of King are the real winners when we publish this amazing art to our wiki.

However, all entries are being put in our fan art category in the Gallery so they can be enjoyed by everyone.

I voted for Jean because I liked the symbolism of the red vs white. The white looks like an imperfect circle broken by the red. The horn completes the imperfect white wheel/ka/circle. I thought that was really cool, intentional or not.

Kevin, you are my hero! that's what I had in mind, and tried to convey, but being pathitic at drawing I was sure it was completely lost! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gifhttp://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif

I would hope the mods would consider that the contest asks for a picture of "The Horn of Eld" not the Horn plus a whole bunch of other stuff when choosing which picture to place on the wiki.

Daghain
03-24-2008, 08:32 PM
I don't think it's an issue, in this case. If you do, please feel free to PM me. :)

Patrick
03-24-2008, 10:07 PM
Actually I would have liked to have seen aurora's closer up, i.e. less background, more horn. It is a great piece of art, but I voted for another because of that issue.

Rjeso
03-25-2008, 04:21 AM
Yeah, I really liked the WIP that aurora submitted that was just the horn and only the horn. You could see the sign of the Eld better, and the runes along the top.

Technically, yes. But artistically, that's bad form to do to someone else's work. I'm not running these contests, but I would think we go (or don't go) with the art as submitted by the artist.

The thing is, on a personal level, I agree with JB. If we could see the detail on the horn by having it be more/most of the picture, I probably would have voted for it. In any case, it is a lovely piece as are the other entries. I continue to be impressed by all the interpretations, effort and quality that our members put forth in these contests.

Hello all, thanks for the comments, all of them. Any crit is almost always worth listening too. I have been out thanks to spring break. But now I'm back and working on the horn image again. I have two versions one some will like considering many of the comments here and the other more what I intended to begin with. However I will not post them till after this challenge is completely over out of consideration to the other wonderful contestants and their great works.

Well, here's a new one! We have a tie! Aurora and heather19 are tied at 13!

I'm going to hold a "vote-off". I'll set up a new poll with these two entries and you all get to pick the final entry that will go into Towerpedia.

Great job everyone! This was a really tough contest!!!!
