View Full Version : I'll never, ever again... (Ways movies change the way we see the world)

Every once in a while something will happen in a film that changes the way we see the world. Everytime we do that thing we saw in that movie, we think of that scene.

There are two recent ones that come to mind for me.

I will never again listen to Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys without thinking of Us.

I will never again stir liquid in a cup without thinking of Get Out.

Not sure why I chose two Jordan Peele films.

Thanks to the film "Waiting", I will never get an attitude with my server or chef. When I was a child, my mother could never go to restaraunt without complaining about something with her meal. It haunts me thinking about all the nasty shit we were probably subjected to

Best use of Good Vibrations is this. Not only do I think of this scene when I hear the song, but I also think about the song whenever I need tech support.

I'll always think of this scene whenever I look at a carton of orange juice

And this scene whenever I look at Uncle Ben's. These aren't films, but all the same.

Singin' In The Rain after I saw A Clockwork Orange.

As everyone knows, SITR is a pretty lighthearted ditty, but after seeing A Clockwork Orange...viddy well, little brother...

Will never hear the sound of chainsaw without thinking of the TCMassacre.

Last summer - seriously - was at the cemetary, the Alexandro-Nevskaya Lavra, the oldest in our city, historical and what not. My greatgrandma is buried there. It was a weekday, early morning, and there was not a soul (living, i mean). The cemetary is overgrown and half-ruined, with wild vegetation and them old, dilapidated sepulchres. I was quietly tending greatgrandma's grave, and heard this unmistakable sound. In the empty cemetary. With zero visibility - because of the plants - beyond nine foot distance.

(of course, they were only the guys from the monastery sawing a tree that had fallen during the hurricane the day before. But before I found them, I had had plenty of time to think about... things)

Tom Petty's American Girl. I always think of poor Catherine in Silence of the Lambs jamming out in the car right before Buffalo Bill gets her.

And Bad to the Bone always makes me think of the beautiful Christine.

Oy my gosh, I just rewatched SotL on TCM tonight and was bopping along with that scene!
Buffalo Bill was not a very nice man but damn! he had some very cool taste in music.

I always think of her cat that got left behind and how well it'll get along with Precious since it seems Catherine adopted him at the end.

By the way, off topic but has anyone else noticed that in every single exterior or outdoor shot in Sotl, you can hear birds chirping? If you sit through the credits, the very last thing you hear is a bird chirping. It's not very important, just something I noticed and for some reason, in that film, it seems sinister some how. Don't ask me how but it just does, I need to go to bed, lol.

Opening a package: "WHAT'S IN THE BOX!?"

The thing is our house is to give someone a present and when they try to guess what it is we always say "A toaster!" It's a thing from Blue's Clues which my kids LOVED when they were little.

Also the chant "Present time, present time, open a present and see what's inside!"

Agreed; I always hear it as it went in the Halloween II credits, segueing into the Halloween theme.

So much of my work day involves me asking someone: "Have you seen [insert movie/tv show}?" all so I can make a reference. haha

Oh no! Well, maybe you'll fare better in the next tournament, we'll be doing the 2010s! And next year we'll move onto the 1970s and '60s!
