Shit! No signings in Scotland this time. :(

Any chance you could jump on a train and attend the Birmingham one? there's a couple of us going.

At tonight’s event in Concord, he gave away three umbrellas for the “most interesting questions”. Not sure exactly what design is on them, but seems that he will be doing it each time.

If he sticks with the 3 per show thing they will definitely be one of the scarcer items he has had. All I could see so far is that they are black. I am taking my mom to see him tonight so I have one more shot at getting one.
On a side note, as of last night I am officially out of things for him to sign!!

Simon, whilst I would absolutely love that, I’m afraid I don’t travel so well since my illness last year. It would just be a bit too much for me at the moment. You guys will have a wonderful time though. :)

Another great night with Joe in S. Portland, ME. He seems to be in a good flow and has good energy!

Firstly, the copy he signed for my mom for her 84th birthday...

Many thanks.

Does anyone in the UK have a spare copy of the IDW NOS4A2/Wraith Deluxe Limited Edition, they would be willing to sell?

Also looking to buy a copy of the UK Limited Hardcover of Joe Hill's Horns, if anyone in the UK has a spare copy for sale?

I will be attending the book signing in Birmingham on 6th November and I'm hoping to get these inscribed....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to be fiscally smart this time and not get a signed trade HC to tide me over until my order S/L four-volume set from CD arrives. I don't have multi-volume completist tendencies, I don't have spare shelf space, and I have plenty of other books to read in my TBR pile in the meantime.

So all it requires is a little bit of restraint and patience on my part.

Probably easier said than done. :(

Quoting directly from a passage within the book, the inscription reads: "What a blessed if painful thing, this business of being alive."

Had a great evening event in Liverpool yesterday. Showed up in the store around 17:00 and decided to spent my waiting time with a good cup of coffee and blueberry muffin :)
About 10 minutes later I met fellow boardie jon10g, this time for real as we planned to meet each other at the NOS4R2 event in 2013 but somehow that didn’t go through. Jon brought me a Skelton Crew pin and promotional sleeping mask from Sleeping beauties as a present just because he thought it was nice to meet a fellow boardie in the flesh.

The event started a little past 19:30 with some guy named Luke Interviewing Joe. Then Joe read a small segment from Snapshot and concluded with a Q&A session with the audience.
There were about 150 people present so there was a 3 book limit per person for the signing, but after you got your three signed, you were allowed to get back at the end of the queue for 2nds. I brought a bag full of books so waited until I was the last one, and Joe signed them all.
The cherry on the pie, the one thing I am really thrilled about, is that he wrote an awesome welcome message for www.joehillbibliography.com (it will be posted on the homepage later tonight).

Barnes and Noble are due to release their Black Friday list of signed books on 11/15 on their website. Like previous years they will have around 50-100 different signed editions usually just signed on the FFEP. First come first served.

I can confirm that my B&N signed copy also did NOT have a "Signed by the Author" sticker on it. Was also curious about the "Black Friday" signed edition. Noticed that right away amongst the copyright in the indicia, et al (also noticed it in another new book that I will have to have a Black Friday edition of). I've never heard of these in years past. It sounds like the only way to get one is in a physical store? On Black Friday?! No way..

Barnes and Noble are due to release their Black Friday list of signed books on 11/15 on their website. Like previous years they will have around 50-100 different signed editions usually just signed on the FFEP. First come first served.

The information I received from the publisher a couple of months ago was that it's an edition with a different ISBN. Only available in brick and mortar B&N stores (not online) and only on Black Friday. I've emailed them asking if this edition will have any physical differences from the 'regular' hardcover or just a different ISBN and tipped in signature page.

My presigned B&N copy also didn't have a sticker on the dustjacket, not sure if the BAM edition has a sticker. I have ordered it and it has been shipped but it's still with my friend in LA so I haven't seen it yet.

Just heard back from the publisher. The B&N Black Friday edition is physically the same as the presigned B&N edition with tipped in signature page, only a different ISBN. So for all you non-completists, no need to go to the store on Black Friday.
If one of you has plans to go hunting for one anyway, I’d appreciate it if you could pick up one for me.

I don't want one personally but I'd be willing to pick up copies from my local B&N if anyone is interested and I'm in town on that date. My job takes me out of town pretty much daily so it's always a crapshoot. Anyway, PM if interested.

P.S. Any clue when they're opening up for BF?

That was my initial concern as well that Bookworm was producing another signed variant. In speaking with Jeff Whiley regarding the matter, he advised me that it is exactly the same book. So I'd say you're spot on, Joe. Jeff also told me that these copies are just trade editions with a number added. Tipped in I'm assuming. I preordered my copy from Anderida for £45. I might not have ordered one if I'd know this information before hand. But knowing myself, probably would have really bugged me not to have it. Reckon we'll see what it looks like when it arrives.

Also the slipcase design is eerily similar to the one that Simon sent to Jeff. Although I think the font on Simon's design is a bit thicker.

IMO, I'll argue that CD is the only press producing an actual S/L of this title.

I agree. I don't like the fact that a lot of UK books are being called "limited" when they are just first printings with a tipped in numbered signature page. That is not a limited edition book in my eyes.

MarcoL
11-29-2017, 10:41 AM
Received my copy of the UK SW slipcased edition this afternoon. It is indeed a 1st printing copy of the UK trade hardback with an added limitation page, it looks like it's bound in rather than tipped in but I'm not sure about that. I do know that the Anderida version was officially approved by Gollancz. The slipcase does look like the one that was posted previously in this thread, but it's not the same (again the Anderida slipcases were approved by Gollancz who provided the 'artwork'/font, they were manufactured by a company in London).
If this can edition officially counts as a limited....that's a matter of opinion. This UK version is similar to the 'limited' Goldsboro version of The Fireman but in no way a real limited like Cemetery Dance's upcoming signed/limited.
Nevertheless a nice addition to your collection if you ordered one. My copy even has a small umbrella doodle. Curious if anyone else's copy has a doodle.

Just wondering what you guys thought of Strange Weather as a book.

I really liked the first two, the second two were a bit off.

It's kind of funny... with 'Aloft' I wished there was some sort of explanation as to what the heck was going on. It was just weird for lack of a better term. Conversely, with 'Rain' I think it would be better if there WASN'T an explanation and I found the reveal to be absurd even with the suspension of disbelief for the premise itself.

I also agree that the Sub edition is nicer, but I don’t want to sell the IDW edition short. It is a top quality product with great art and a texture to the DJ that reminds me of old wallpaper! (In a very cool “grandma’s” way)
If you can only get one, go for the Sub. Just keep in mind that they look great together as well.

*EDIT* to add: Oh yeah- just need to check Marco's excellent bibliography (Thanks, Marco!), and it's all there! Anyone have this? Is it...cool?

Ron

Thanks! It’s a nice hardcover. A bit smaller in size than a regular hardcover edition but it has a nice new introduction. It’s one in a series of anniversary editions from Gollancz.

I recently received my UK Strange Weather S/L by Joe Hill numbered out of 100, but mine has a lightning bolt where the number should be unlike others I seen for sale. Is this a "PC" version? Has anyone seen one like this one and/or know how many were produced? Here's a pic of the limitation page:

Who did you guys order from?

I ordered direct from Anderida. I just checked out joehillbibliography.com and see that MarcoL posted this on his site:

# of copies: 100

Remarks: slipcased, tipped in limitation page. 5 additional unnumbered copies with a lightning symbol instead of a number on the limitation page

So, Brian, looks like we have a unique copy--one of five.

They offered 100 numbered and 5 lightning bolt copies. Stated on order form. I can email to confirm. If someone wants mine for my cost $108. Plus shipping. Feel free to pm me. I have extra lightning bolt copy.

I don’t think they are so unique. There is only one #1, one #2, etc. but there are 5 lightning bolts. Like PC copies, not as desirable as a numbered copy.

I assumed that's how the marketplace will consider them, but I'm happy with it and it's unlikely mine will leave the shelf. Always interesting and educational to get everyone's input.

None are as good as Locke and Key but
The Cape is a blast! (The Cape prequel wasn't written by him so I haven't read it)
Wraith is great but better if you read Nos4ra2
Thumbprint isn't my kind of thing, mainly bc it's set in the real world,
but it is a good story.
Tales from the Darkside is excellent.
There's some Locke and Key one offs that I don't remember.
I think that's it right?

Hi Marco!
Alas I did not make it. Too much freezing rain that day. However, a friend of mine that lives closer went and from what I gather he did indeed read that story in its entirety. I'm almost positive that right after the event she told me that he said it was to be included in an upcoming anthology that his father is releasing. Which would be awesome wouldn't it! Don't quote me on this info as I wasn't there and she could have misunderstood but pretty sure that's what she said.
I'll wait for a summer event next time, lol.

I'm listening to this now. Snapshot and Loaded were awesome stories! Aloft was just plain silly to me. Just started the last story. Not impressed with the narrator on that one but hopefully the story will overcome that.

Roseannebarr

I never really considered this a signed limited. But see below.

We have a quick note about your signed "Road Rage" order.

First up: You, Joe Hill and Stephen King broke the internet Thursday night, at least for a few seconds.

So many people checked out as soon as the signed "Road Rage" copies went live, that in the crazy short span of time it took PayPal to tell our site the books had sold out, 21 additional orders slipped in the system, something we've never experienced and weren't aware could even happen.

Fortunately, Joe Hill and Stephen King are both amazing — which we already knew — and immediately said they'd be game for signing 21 more.

With travel schedules and having to get the books between three states, it looks like they likely won't arrive at the studio for 6-8 weeks. Additionally, the Biblio Keys they'll come with will be marked as APs, or artist's proofs, instead of being numbered. Anything you ordered at the same time will ship together at the same time.

If either the wait or the AP key creates an issue, please let us know and we're happy to refund your order.

Our apologies for the wait, and the bit of chaos, but we're glad it means more people getting signed "Road Rages" and more funds raised for charity.

Any questions, please just drop us a line. Hope you have a great weekend!

The Crew

I decided to keep both editions of NOS4A2 because IDW and Sub Press are nice and it's my fave Hill book. Just don't need multiples of the others so selling to help fund things like the Misery S/L!

WAIT!!! You are telling me you enjoyed N0S4A2 over all other Hill books? Horns was by FAR my favorite. N0S4A2 I never finished and I am not a huge fan of short stories so 20th just got left on the shelf. Still need to read HSB.

HSB is his best along with Locke & key in my opinion.:)

Yes I did!!:lol: And 20th CG is my second fave! You really should check it out sometime Josh. Even if you're not a big fan of the short story format there are some incredible stories in there. I also loved Horns! Now I have to know why you never finished NOS4A2. You hated it that much??

I agree, L&K is fantastic but in rating the novels alone I've got to go with 'ole Charlie Manx. I can't decide where to rank HSB in my personal list yet. I think I'd rate it above The Fireman but below Strange Weather. Although I did not like Aloft. Now you've got me pondering! Lol.

My ranking of Joe Hill Novels:

1. Heart Shaped Box
2. Fireman
3. Horns
4. NOS4A2

Like them all but NOS4A2 is the weakest of his novels for my taste.

Locke & Key, Strange Weather and 20th Century Ghosts are all great but not novels.

My novel ranking:

1). NOS4A2
2). HEART-SHAPED BOX
3). HORNS
4). THE FIREMAN

I prefer numbers 1 and 2 far more than 3 and 4. I'd probably put NOS4A2 in a My Top Fifteen Novels of All Time list, HEART-SHAPED BOX in a top 50 list...but the other two wouldn't even make a Top 100 list. As I look around my office library of 3000'something books, I know THE FIREMAN literally would not even make a Top 1000 list...didn't care much for that one at all. HORNS would probably make a Top 500.

2. Heart-Shaped Box

Have read or listened to NOS4A2 yet.

Although I have several copies of The Fireman, it doesn't even make this list.

I agree that Locke & Key is the best of all his works.

Snapshot and Loaded are two of his best stories hands down IMO.

Kate Mulgrew is so good reading NOS4A2, which I consider an all time great.
NOS4A2 is my favorite just because other people see Christmasland and stuff it's not just one or two people like in an SK book. I really enjoyed that aspect and that it has it's own kind of world.
Horns was way better than I thought it would be. Lots of heart that one.
Speaking of Heart, I love Heart Shaped Box, one of the few books that have freaked me out while reading in a long time.

I hate The Fireman, too long, silly unrealistic love story, the whole thing with ex-husband, bah. Missed opportunity with zero editing.

Joe is great though. Looking forward to anything from him.

Oh, I think it's less "lean" and more diving off the ledge with a jetpack turned to the Turbo setting. Getting away from politics,
My two rarer Hill items are ending in about an hour and so far not high bids. Will be interesting to see how they end. I think due to Joe's sigs being easy to come by ( not complaining it's why I'm selling these) that the market value is decreasing. I'll share what they end up at....

Sorry Dez, I didn't know you were looking for either of these.
I hope other sellers whose prices are jacked up on these sees this. I started them low because I was interested to see what happens and I had no idea what to BIN for as I was looking at what others were selling them for.

Well, I'd say the Hill market has decidedly changed over time.
Since RR above ended up with HSB I won't say the total other than it was over $200.
The more rare 20th CG, the one I thought would sell for more went for a whopping $177. Certainly less than what I paid for it a few years back.
I have the UK HSB S/L. The 10th anny 20th CG S/L along with Horns, Fireman, and NOS4A2 S/L's and waiting on CD's Strange Weather S/L. My point being that I won't miss these two from my collection as long as I have one S/L for each book.
For investment purposes I will stick with Dad's work ;) but I love having Waterstreet readily available and his usually fruitful book tours.

FIRST RUN LIMITED EDITION 2500 YELLOW #10 (TRANSPARENT) COLORED VINYL WITH BLACK SPLATTER!

Joe Hill, ''the best horror writer of our generation" (Michael Koryta) returns with a brand new short story performed by actor Nate Corddry, to be initially released as an exquisitely packaged vinyl recording.

A balmy summer night in 1994. Four teenagers out for an evening of fun on the boardwalk take a ride on the ?"Wild Wheel?" (an antique carousel with a shadowy past) and learn too late that decisions made in an instant can have deadly consequences.

What begins as a night of innocent end-of-summer revelry, young love, and (a few too many) beers among friends soon descends into chaos, as the ancient carousel's parade of beasts comes chillingly to life to deliver the ultimate judgment for their misdeeds. Featuring an original cover of The Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" by Matthew Ryan.

A ?"vinyl first?" publication, ?"Dark Carousel?" will be available exclusively on vinyl prior to any other format. Beautifully packaged with original artwork, the vinyl also includes a full-length digital download of the ?"Dark Carousel?" audiobook.

Some folks bitch cause the sky is blue so ya have to disregard those of course. The only review that concerned me was they were unable to fill a preorder of another vinyl. Bull Moose didn't response to the review so I don't know what the reasoning was. I stopped by Bull Moose over the weekend and was told that the store should have 12 physical copies on 4/20. I couldn't hold one but they said to call the morning of. You may want to double check with other locations. I contacted my local Bull Moose and was told they would be getting only 6 copies and I WAS able to reserve one and it will be delivered to my local shop. If this kid was that lazy/clueless, it might be worth it.

Thanks Chris! I don't trust that Amazon is going to be able to fill all pre orders with such a low number. I'll wait a couple of weeks and stop by again to see if I get a different answer.

I see that I worded that poorly. I meant other Bull Moose locations. I dealt with the Windham store with good results.

I'm actually more concerned about Bull Moose being able to fill their orders since their supply will be pretty low. I don't think Amazon will be an issue at first at least.

I think the clerk you spoke to, Lori is underestimating the demand for this. As a huge fan, I might be overstating it. All the same, I'll keep both orders in.
