A missing party member, thirteenth of twelve ‘tis true.
Recognized as one of eighty eight, and one of forty eight, too.

Upon a circling plane is where this one makes a humble home.
A brother to his brothers but unacknowledged, all alone.

Caught ‘twixt the arachnid and a therianthropic mate
No prescient warnings offered concerning business, love or fate

Abandoned so on purpose? Some tragic, huge mistake?
Homage to Seurat’s pointillism, “Man Who Holds The Snake.”

(one word)

One of 88, one of 48 = key?

Is "circling plane" alluding to a screw?

No, dear alinda, nothing at all to do with a piano. ;)

19thNBD, Libra is not correct...but you are definitely thinking along the right lines.

  never trust a family members definition of a word! Always look it up!

I was told "has something to do with religion" so I was thinking Islam/Virgo/virgin. Libra is between Scorpio and Virgo.

But....there is nothing "twixt" Scorpio (arachnid) and Sagittarius (therianthropic)they are side by side.... :panic: so now I'm lost!!!!

There isn't? Are you sure about that?

cusp? That's all I can think of between the two unless one considers that it's a circle and thus everything else is between them also.

Nope, to cusp. This circle you speak of? Can you give me more detail on that?

Yes, of course I'm wrong answer-wise, but the zodiac is a circle so really everything in the zodiac of course is between the two if you consider the opposite direction.

Zodiac has ALOT to do with the answer. Examine the clues refering to "home".

Ophiuchus is one of 48 (known to Ptolemy) or 88 (known to us? I am not sure) constellations; also referred to as Serpentarius (hence, Man Holding the Snake). I'm researching further to know where other clues come in.

EDITED: no, I don't know what to make of circling plane, or Seurat... can't remember anything by Seurat which I could tie with that... http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_sad.gif

Ophiuchus is the answer, Jean. Congratulations! Would you like some time to work out the the details?

Jean

yes, yes, please! I don't think I can think of anything more, but I hope Brice can http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/0134-bear.gif

Of the 13 zodiacal constellations, Ophiuchus is the only one not counted as an astrological sign.

The "circling plane" refers to the night sky/zodiacal circle, I assume?

Business, love, and fate are common topics that people who are into astrology ask about.

I guess the bit about Seurat's pointillism is due to stars being seen as points of light in the sky. The constellation is always seen as a man wrestling a snake, but there are several possibilities attributed to the figure and who it represents (Adam, Phorbas, Apollo, Aesculapius).

Damn, that was a nice riddle. Congrats, Jean!

well, at least 3/4 of the goose should go to 19thNrvsbrkdwn who was the first to think of Zodiac

and at least half of the rest to Laura http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_wub.gif who gave explanations!

::devours what is left::

Haha, nah, I only could give explanations because I knew what to look for after the answer was given. ;) I've had plenty of goose lately, I'll be fine.

The plane part was in reference to the Plane of the Ecliptic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecliptic)

Rjeso, you are correct with the pointilism piece...lights in the sky forming a pattern.

I hope everyone enjoyed the riddle. Great group effort. I will give the goose to Jean to portion out as he sees fit.

Nice one Gabe. I was completly in the dark. I was raised in a devout Nazarene home and taught that Zodiak signs were the devil's work. I know so little of them. No wonder I was lost.
