Woah! Why was I under the impression that Sleepy Hollow was a universally hated film?

I kinda thought it was too  It got my vote though, I'm a sucker for a Tim Burton film.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Being John Malkovich is one of the top films so far. I absolutely love that film.

have voted Being John Malkovich, Sleepy Hollow and Dark City

I am very glad I finally got around to watching Dark City. I remember trying once, and failing, but it went a lot better this time. Still not one of my favorite films - too little story, no characters or dialog - but it is very beautiful, it has some really good scenes (the family at the dinner table is an absolute clasic), and, what is important, it sticks in memory. I remembered everything I had watched that unfortunate first time like it was the day before, not years ago.

Back in the day, my brother had a subscription to a Magazine that covered horror/sci-fi/fantasy, and they had a lot on Dark City. I was hyped and was one of the few who saw it in theatres. It didn't make much money.

Roger Ebert attended a symposium where a bunch of film critics spent a full weekend going through the film frame by frame. Must've been great. I think the lack of character is a strength of the movie, since None of the people in the film have any actual character, since their personalities and memories are implanted and inauthentic.

I love Sleepy Hollow. The visuals in that are mesmerizing.

None of the people in the film have any actual character, since their personalities and memories are implanted and inauthentic.I understand all that! but such concepts are bound to clash with the idea of a movie one would really enjoy watching. Like - yeah, I got it, thank you guys, now can I have a look at something more substantial for a change? I mean, it is very difficult to show an abstraction, a theory, and hope it will grasp attention for any long time. (speaking strictly about self, of course, and my own attention). Maybe some different approaches to displaying the same idea would make the trick, but there was mainly one and the same. Even given that, though, I liked it quite a lot, and that scene at the table covers a multitude of sins.

Damn. :(

This was one of my favorite movies growing up. It even inspired me and a couple of friends to create our own fake radio station. We didn't have the ability to actually broadcast anything over the airwaves so we just recorded everything onto cassettes. But we played songs, interviewed guests, did top 10 lists and even made up our own fake commercials. I had a handful of CD's that where just different sound effects as well as an electric keyboard for more sound.

I even convinced my parents to go to Radio shack and buy us a couple of microphones and a splitter so we could plug them both into my boom box that we recorded on.

It was great fun. We even managed to sell a few copies to some of our friends in school.
