Unless I missed it, we seem to have skipped an overview thread for 2018, following the established pattern:

2015 (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?18202)
2016 (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?19314)
2017 (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?20109)

I do apologize for that!

Since we are past the halfway point of 2018 with a couple of projects still due out later in the year, like Elevation (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?21303-Elevation-A-Castle-Rock-novel-(out-October-30-2018)), I thought we'd get a start on speculating on 2019 stuff. I do not believe anything has been announced or really even rumored for next year yet. The only thing close to that would be a statement by Ms. Mod in May 2018 that King has completed another novel (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?21571-King-has-completed-another-novel), which probably is our 2019 book (at least one of them, since King has kept to two books a year consistently now).

Any other things I may have missed?

I wonder what sort of EP duties he was planning on tending to in 2019. Probably originally had some time blocked off for whatever was next in the Dark Tower adaptations. Maybe that has since been replaced with fresh Castle Rock duties? (Doubtful, but still...)

Just curious if he’ll start to go the GRRM route of letting his writing take a back seat to adaptation assistance or if he’ll maintain his usual model. Or maybe he’ll double down on the family collaborations to further ensure Owen & Joe are set?
(Not that they need help at this point)

Regardless I can’t wait to see what’s next. Does anyone know anything about the completed novel you mentioned?

I asked Marsha about it and she told me the novel is completed but won't be published this year. And that she couldn't say anything else about it yet.

If I am not mistaken, nothing has yet been announced for a King book in 2019?

Not yet. With Elevation out it feels weird not to have an announced book (or two) to look forward to, as we've been used to these last ten years or so. But I'm sure an announcement of a 2019 book is not too far off.

I think there was a gap between the release of Sleeping Beauties and the announcement of The Outsider, so there is precedence. But yeah it feels weird and sad.

Having said that, I am now close to caught up on his books, so I should definitely be all caught up by the time what ever comes after Elevation is released. I don't think I have been caught up since the early 90's.

Makes sense. And should be announced fairly soon, I would think. Maybe before the end of the year, but definitely early next year.

Unless it's wrong, the info I manage is that it'll be summer. VERY VERY CLOSE to autumn.

So substitute The Shop with The Institute add more kids and we have another Firestarter. Hopefully it will be different since there seems to be more children. Although Firestarter is one of the ones I have to read though. It sounds good though. I am assuming some menace in this one.
"As psychically terrifying as Firestarter, and with the spectacular kid power of It, The Institute is Stephen King’s gut-wrenchingly dramatic story of good vs. evil in a world where the good guys don’t always win."
That would neat if it had a dark ending. Like the orignal ending of 1408 or, even though it's not a King story, the movie Life. Sometimes it's not always a happy ending.

I’m amped for this one - wonder if there will be any crossover? At the very least maybe Annie Wilkes will be a previous employee at this Institute

I’m looking forward to this one. Sounds like classic King. Now we just need an announcement of a limited edition by one of our fine friends in the independent publishing industry, such as Cemetery Dance or Suntup Editions.

In addition to the obvious Firestarter similarity, it reminds me of Everything's Eventual (Dinky) and Dr. Sleep ("extracting"). Fertile ground for good King.

My thoughts exactly. I'm generally not one to clamor for a new DT book, but I've always thought the breakers were relatively under-explored, so this could be a good thing indeed.

It seems PS Publishing will (or plans to) release its version of The Dead Zone this year as well, after The Stand. It will be illustrated by Tomislav Tikulin.

Now where is Needful Things?

I'm not a fan of the font they use for the author name, feels very generic, and the font used for the title isn't good either. Yes, I'm a font person...

Fonts are important; I'm with you there.

I agree that the one for his name is pretty generic (not to mention huge, but I guess that's a requirement when selling a book by STEPHEN KING). I like the font used for the title though; it feels cozy, in the sense of being taken away by the story.

I also prefer the UK edition's image (overhead "shot" of a rowboat) to that of the US edition; I find it more evocative than the US cover, but then, I can't deny that a train with that interior is evocative as well.

I don't understand why there can't just be one cover.

I always thought that if I were a published author, if I liked the cover the US edition ended up with, I would consider it "the" cover and would forever be irritated by the existence of others (but those are some significant ifs in that sentence).

I generally prefer the U.K. Covers. This one is a bit blah, though. I'm sure the w h smith edition will be a nice shade of purple, though. :)

I agree about the fonts - particularly the title font. The author font is generic, but better that than the hideous font they used in the U.K. Between Cell and Just After Sunset. It made his work look like cheap schlock.

You can probably thank your local sports team for this. All teams need are a home jersey and an away jersey...but damn if their “alternate third jerseys” that are for sale haven’t been major sources of revenue since the 90s

Earlier there was only the ebook page, but not there seems to be the hardcover page too.

And Hodder has sent a press release about it as well :
Deep in the woods of Maine, there is a dark state facility where kids, abducted from across the United States, are incarcerated. In the Institute they are subjected to a series of tests and procedures meant to combine their exceptional gifts – telepathy, telekinesis – for concentrated effect.

Luke Ellis is the latest recruit. He’s just a regular 12-year-old, except he’s not just smart, he’s super-smart. And he has another gift which the Institute wants to use...

Far away in a small town in South Carolina, former cop Tim Jamieson has taken a job working for the local Sherriff. He’s basically just walking the beat. But he’s about to take on the biggest case of his career.

Back in the Institute’s downtrodden playground and corridors where posters advertise ‘just another day in paradise’, Luke, his friend Kalisha and the other kids are in no doubt that they are prisoners, not guests. And there is no hope of escape.

But great events can turn on small hinges and Luke is about to team up with a new, even younger recruit, Avery Dixon, whose ability to read minds is off the scale. While the Institute may want to harness their powers for covert ends, the combined intelligence of Luke and Avery is beyond anything that even those who run the experiments – even the merciless Mrs Sigsby – suspect.

Thrilling, suspenseful, heart-breaking, The Institute is a stunning novel of childhood betrayed and hope regained.

King’s UK editor, Philippa Pride said: ‘As soon as I met Luke and the other characters in this book, I knew I would root for them throughout Stephen King’s exciting new novel The Institute, which I believe is going to be the biggest fiction title of Autumn 2019. It has the suspense of The Outsider and the wonderful childhood camaraderie and immersive nostalgia which Steve captures so beautifully in his stories such as It and The Body (adapted into the film Stand By Me). His Constant Fan will be thrilled, while new readers are guaranteed to discover him with this wonderfully resonant novel.’

"Throttle" and "In the tall grass" will be reprinted in Joe Hill's next collection 'Full Throttle" to be release in october.

The amazon UK page ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Full-Throttle-Joe-Hill/dp/1473219892/ ) is interesting for this upcoming book because it says :
"Eleven short stories from award-winning author Joe Hill, building on the success of his blockbuster novels. Some new, some previously published, all terrifying.
Includes FULL THROTTLE and IN THE TALL GRASS, both collaborations with Stephen King and both being filmed at the time of writing."

So :
- "Throttle" seems to have been renamed in "Full throttle" for the collection, giving its title to the book
- "Throttle" is ALSO being turned into a movie? That's the first time I hear about that

And as I always thought, I am guessing that the "In the tall grass" movie by Vincenzo Natali will be released at the automn on netflix, probably by the release of the book... before halloween?

In 2018 Nick Wechsler bought rights to "Throttle" but that's all there is about it.
