I suppose it's about time to create one of these threads. My collection is small and somewhat fluid, which is why I haven't posted it before. I guess my personal collecting philosophy is that I collect books that I like for one reason or another, but I only keep the ones that 'feel right' once I have them. That probably sounds weird, but it's the best way to sum up my collection:)

As a preface, all the books are first editions, except for one of the night shifts, it's a first edition jacket on a non-first. Only 3 of the King firsts are signed, but I'd say 75% of the non-King books are. The S/L books are all real number or letter, except for one PC copy of The Devil Next Door.

The Insomnia and Nightmares & Dreamscapes (on the right, not the proof) are signed. The dust jacket for Night Shift is a first edition jacket, I'm not sure what edition the actual book is. While on the subject, if anybody has a naked first edition Night Shift in good condition, PM me:)

Sphere is one of my favorite books. And I'm a big fan of David Wong. The proof to the far right is Into Thin Air.

Um, I need to stop stacking stuff...and buy another bookshelf. The traycase for the S/L From a Buick 8 is filled with miscellaneous folded dust jackets, no book in there:) And I have the poster that went along with the first Folio Society printing of Dune somewhere.

http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah123/tony8379/857D62DA-D2A1-4AC4-B139-60A56885F8C0_zpssgs6iqz2.jpeg

My one of six EoTD canvas prints signed by David Palladini that I won for my atrocious unboxing video when I got my lettered EoTD art portfolio. I'm not sure if I actually successfully tweeted my video in like 6 terrible parts to Suntup seeing as how it was the first and only time I used Twitter, but Paul quite nicely counted it as an entry regardless:)

The tubes in back have dust jackets in them. A full Dark Tower set with multiple duplicates of the non-rare ones, a Firestarter, and some Christines, if I remember correctly. And the CD Salem's Lot artist edition has a David Palumbo remarque in it (see page 2 for a pic).

The lettered IT has a full page color remarque by Erin Wells in it. The fox was a Christmas decoration that obviously needs to be put away since it's May:)

My shelf of honor, these are some of my favorite books:) The Seuss book is lettered, the S/L IT matches the IT portfolio below it, and the letter of the lettered John Dies at the End matches my Suntup & Dragon Rebound set (probably no good reason to mention that, except that I like it). And you can't see it, but all the CD Doubleday art portfolios are behind the Rebounds, Christine, and Firestarter. The Firestarter is also signed by Michael Whelan (page 2 for pics).

I don't think this piece of furniture was meant for books, but it's better than stacking them on top of other books. The green ‘book’ is a numbered Suntup EoTD art portfolio that matches the number of my Philtrum Press EoTD. Haha, probably an unnecessary match since the artwork is different. Worked out well for me, though, since it got me a numbered S/L Misery!

Haha, nope, you didn't miss anything. I like it when the back of a slipcase has some decoration, so I'll switch between front and back depending on the day:) Right now I'm in a 'back of the slipcase phase.'

I was THIS CLOSE to buying the only limited edition of Fur Girl in Melbourne, and then I hesitated too long and it sold. Unfortunately, I have no signed Ryden work (I do have a few Glenn Barr pieces, Detroit pop surrealist with a noir, femme fatal, science fiction theme).

Hey Anthony, i really like your artwork. How do you choose your pieces? Do you follow specific artists? Art movements? Themes? Investment? (Are you running out of wall space?!)

I follow and collect Mark Ryden, although only the stuff that I like, or that I can afford:) Some of his older and rarer limited edition productions that I would like to own either never come up for sale, or when they do, they're out of my price range. And his original works, unless they are very simplistic, exist in a high orbit above the small planet that is my art budget.

Other than that, there are some artists that I passively 'follow' that I would consider to be part of the surrealism or 'lowbrow' art movement. I don't own anything by him, but Michael Hussar is a talented artist that dabbles in occultish, horrorish, and overtly sexual imagery that I like, but can't collect because my wife...um...isn't a fan. Look him up to see what I mean:)

In general, though, I most like artwork that disturbs the senses more than soothes them. If my first and reoccurring reaction to a piece of art is 'what the fuck?,' I prefer that to thinking 'that's pretty,' although I appreciate the pretty stuff too. I think that's why I like Ryden, because his artwork is weird and a lot of times a little offensive to the senses, but it also has a subtle overall detailed beauty. Like the print of Aurora somewhere up above, the frontal nudity of the figure is a little offensive to the senses, but when you start asking yourself 'why is it offending me?,' or 'why does this make me uncomfortable?,' the internal conversation that you can have can get interesting:)

I've been trying to find a perfect first state Pet Sematary dust jacket, and have come pretty close:) It's got the tiniest little breath of edgewear to the bottom of the spine, but only if you're really looking for it. Someday I'm going to find one that's truly perfect or unfolded (not sure if those even exist, but I'd buy it if it does), but I'm pretty happy with this one.

Very nice pictures.
My PET SEMATARY dust jacket is perfect, by the way. Like Bo Derek, it's a 10.

And I will give you 200 dollars for it, although I’m guessing you don’t want to sell:)

Glad I didn't offend you. I don't collect limited editions but with a few notable exceptions, the limiteds I like are the ones without DJ (King's Philtrum Press books for example, but also books like the lettered Song of Kali or the older Centipede Press books).

I found some hidden treasure courtesy of Betts Books! David's listing for the Dragon Rebound auction made me realize that I too have a signed lettered Palladini book that came with my EoTD portfollio. I remembered getting a plastic bag full of goodies along with the portfolio, but I had never actually looked inside the softcover book that was in there. The awesomeness of the portfolio distracted me from the awesomeness that accompanied it: a signed lettered limited edition book! And it's technically the first limited edition book that Suntup published:)

Thanks, Becca! I think you've gotta do a floating frame or some kind of display box for the invitation. That invitation is really cool with the edge detail and embossing (if that's the right word for it). And Aurora never fails to disappoint, you should get one:) Aside from the main figure, there's all sorts of cool little details in the seascape below the water. I still find little things that I didn't know were there when I look at it up close!

Picked up an inscribed 1st/1st of The Tommyknockers from David recently. I know it's not a fan favorite and that Stephen King himself isn't too fond of it, but I just loved the King horror twist on the alien/UFO genre.

I liked it quite a bit, it's one of my all time favorites. I listened to the audiobook a few months ago just for the hell of it and fell in love with the story all over again. Edward Herrmann did an excellent job with the narration too.

King doesn't like it because he was strung out when he wrote it. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he doesn't remember writing it, but that might just be a rumor/legend. As for everybody else, well...to each their own:)

Oh I remember something like that now that you mention it. I always thought most of his early stuff was substance-fueled but never really looked into it. He talks about it in “On Writing” I think? Good tip on the audiobook, thanks.

Haha, yes, HHH fits nicely:) I’ll have to upload a photo of it. Now the REAL challenge will be fitting in the lettered Horns, seeing as how it’s bigger than a bible:)

MikeDuke

Tell me about it. I was really surprised at how massive it it. But the one you have think about RB. With the design of the lettered for that, it should be interesting. You may need to start on a new case for your books at that point.
