When the clue is scrambled, the word is rife with certainty,

Or if its a mixed message, you'll need heart to find the key.

Take one away and be careful what you wear,

But one too many could play havoc with your hair.

Science has come far since then, they say,

So dissect me carefully to find the way.

I think we need to scramble the word "certainty" in the right way...I suck at such things!

Is it heart?

You have never read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss? Great book! :D

It's a story with a moral to it.

When I say "You do not like green eggs and ham?" You're supposed to say, "I do not like them Sam I am.."

Heeheee...

When we were kids our family had this tradition where on your birthday you could have whatever you wanted for dinner. One year (I believe I was five or six) because of me the whole family had to eat this putrid shade of Green eggs and ham (which was my favorite book). Needless to say I was thrilled. They weren't quite as happy about it. We still have fond memories of that day. :D

When the clue is scrambled, the word is rife with certainty, Death

Or if its a mixed message, you'll need heart to find the key. Hated

Take one away and be careful what you wear, Head

But one too many could play havoc with your hair. Heat

Science has come far since then, they say,

So dissect me carefully to find the way.

Death?

***Officially, I think my answer (Death) is wrong. But it is a great riddle....very intriguing...and I sure as hell can't come up with a better answer. ***

You're on the right track Gab, but incorrect letters.

Hint: Focus on the first two lines, the anagram words will jump out at you :)

When the clue is scrambled, the word is rife with certainty,

surefire? Hell, I feel dumb as a brick.

Yeah, this one's got me stumped too.

ETA: I was wondering if the letters in "rife with certainty" would come up as anything. Nothing worthwhile yet, except "arthritic weeny fit," which I like quite a lot.

ETA2: Also, "twitchier tiny ref".

I like Gaberax's idea with "surefire," but making it work with the other clues is tough.

I don't know how to figure this out. I have looked at this thread several times but I cannot do it. :pullhair:

You're hovering around part of the answer. As Monroe would say, "less is more" :)

rife = fire, heart = earth

sure = certainty, ruse = mixed message?

Neither of those work with the rest, though.

Those are correct, your other working out was off-target.

wind can play havoc with hair (also, "hair" has the word "air" in it)?

The letters for "water" are contained within "what you wear"...

So my guess is "elements".

Elements is correct - Water and Air are indicated by the "add one" and "remove one", referring to the letters in the anagram.
