I wish I had a screenshot of my Excel spreadsheets when I collected King, because then I could show you how SIMILAR the next image would be:

https://s26.postimg.org/l8gykvynd/disney.png

I've always collected movies, but now, I've decided to add a subcollection. And not just collect it, but obsess over it. Disney.

So ... fuck.

Do you need a copy of the Black Diamond VHS of The Little Mermaid? I'd sell mine for a reasonable price.

I'm not collecting all things Disney, I'm a movie collector at heart, but now I have a subcollection. If they have a Blu-Ray, great, if not, then we go to DVD. If they don't have that, then VHS ... and so on. We'll see how it goes.

I saw Spirited Away when it first came out in U.S. theaters. Dubbed in English. I thought it was okay (pretty good, but no great shakes). Maybe 3.5 stars out of 5.

Later, I bought the DVD and watched it again, this time withe the Japanese language track. It totally blew me away. An easy 5-star movie that I constantly put on my "top-movies" lists. I'm not sure why the language track made so much of a difference. Perhaps my general and very strong bias towards subtitling comes into play, although it really shouldn't for an animated film, because, after all, ALL animated movies are dubbed, regardless of language. Maybe it's because the movie is just so...Japanese, that hearing English voices created a discontinuity in my mind. In any event, it's a great, great movie (as long as I listen to the Japanese language version LOL).

Sometimes I'll put in the DVD just to listen to the closing credits song on repeat. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Gorgeous.

Omg, I forgot all about this movie!

As for Spirited Away, I absolutely love that film. Shannon, have you shown her all of Miyazaki's films yet? I just bought my niece Kiki's Delivery Service for Christmas. She doesn't have a lot of patience to sit through a whole film yet, but she watched it all in pieces at least and enjoyed it. Going to get her Ponyo next. And (I know this one isn't Miyazaki) Song of the Sea. I really can't stand the fake computer animation these days, and that's all she watches for the most part, so I want to get her some quality real animated films.

We've seen ... let me think ... Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Song of the Sea ... What else? Howl's Moving Castle. I think that's it. And I saw Grave of the Fireflies. Not showing her that one for QUITE a while lol.

I love Kiki, it's one of my favorites. How old is Rose? I think my niece is too young for Spirited Away and Howl's but maybe not.

Oh and did she like Song of the Sea?

Shannon
01-18-2017, 08:30 AM
I am not using Netflix ... or physical media ... Lol

Rose just turned four, but to be fair, I started her education in movies almost the second she came out lol. Spirited Away has some intense scenes, but nothing too scary methinks. Coraline though --off topic-- has some INCREDIBLY scary scenes. Howls moving castle isn't scary, there's a war subtheme, but nothing too bad.

Song of the Sea is BEAUTIFUL. I think she liked it. She likes everything, lol, so when we're done watching something ibask her if she liked it a little or a lot, lol. She liked it a lot.

That's how my child would be if I had one. Unfortunately my niece lives across the country and her parents aren't big movie people so she watches whatever crap is on tv for them these days and all the big movies at the theaters. So I've gotta try to broaden her movie tastes as much as I can

So glad Rose loved Song of the Sea. It really is a beautiful film.

I just love, Disney. In addition to my childhood and watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" on TV each week, my family went there on vacation a couple of years after "World" opened in, Florida. I chose to stay home for "Basketball Camp" and missed the trip. Always regretted that and so I have been trying to make up for it ever since. Been to "World" six or seven times and to "Land" another half dozen or so. Collected ornaments, figures, cels, art, Video's/DVD's etc ever since. Always took mt kids to the "Thanksgiving" release and just embraced the whole hearted. good fun of the whole thing. You can always "trust" Disney!!! lol

Bruce, I'm curious. When I was a kid I had a copy of the Disney oversized book Uncle Remus Stories. Contained over 20 stories. I loved that book! Read it over and over again. Alas, I lost track of it over the years and Disney doesn't seem to sell it any more, and I don't relish paying over $50 on the secondary market for a torn up moldy copy. Do you happen to have a copy of that? (I'm not looking to buy; just curious if you have one and if you enjoyed it as much as I did).

Rose and I saw the Disney Channel TV Movie The Descendants last night. Basic premise: In the fairytale world, all of the villains are exiled to an island, protected by a barrier. Well, blah blah blah Belle and King Beast's son is coming of age and is about to be crowned King, and his first proclamation is to allow the sons and daughters of the villains a second chance, thus enrolling these "bad kids" in the main high school with the sons and daughters of the good guys. ANYWAY, take any of the High School Musical movies and apply the formula here, but I tell ya', it was NOT too bad, lol. And it doesn't hurt that the main girl is smokin' hot. Yes, yes, she might be a little young (I think she was 18 when this was filmed) but still ... lol
