For this playoffs poll, please choose one track to move on to the Tournament Finals as the representative of this time period in music.

IMPORTANT! Please do not simply vote on name recognition (or lack thereof) alone. Please do listen to each nomination and then make your choice. Even if you think you know a track well, it's still worth giving it a listen for a refresher.

The poll will run for twelve days. Discussion is greatly encouraged!

The nominees are (please let me know if any video doesn't play for you):

It should have been "Free Bird" but I'll go with "Sweet Home Alabama".

I went sweet but those bitter stairs will still end up winning this

Hmmmmm, a middle of the pack Skynyrd song vs. a middle of the pack Zeppelin song. Hmmm.

Went with Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama (1974).

now, this is heartbreaking, because I was totally going to vote for SHA against everything
except, that is, Stairway to Heaven

very sad story

Totally agree with that statement. Both songs are "middle of the pack".....

I also voted for Lynard Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama, but neither song deserved to be in the Final.

In my opinion, this should have been between John Lennon's Imagine and Bob Dylan's Knockin' on Heaven's Door.

Well, the collective membership has spoken and these two were deemed the best of this time period.

Sweet Home Alabama. This song always reminds me of Forrest Gump.

Still tied. "Sweet Home Alabama" is leading 5-4 in stated votes, just FYI.

I'm pretty indifferent to both of these, but there is no denying Stairway's place in rock n roll history, so I went with it.

Stairway is a far more complex song in it's structure and lyric but there is something to be said for simplicity as well. I am fine with either making it through but I did vote for SHA.

I wouldn't be sad if SHA won here; another thing is, I don't think it has much potential as the winner of the whole thing (while Stairway seems to have some). It would be sooooo sad if Stairway lost here, and SHA lost to some 2000s half-warmed fish

My big fear here too!

The poll has closed. The winner of the 1970-1974 time period is Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven (1971).
