It's simple : Post a sentence from the DT that has at least one word in common with the post above yours (any word). I'll start us off:

"He retreated, moving his body like a dancer to avoid the flying missiles."

"They made love in the willow grove, questions of honor put aside, promises broken without so much as a look back, and at the end of it Susan discovered there was more sweetness; there was a kind of delirious clinching of the nerves that began in the part of her that opened before him like a flower; it began there and then filled her entire body."

"It was her third time with live ammunition...and her first time on the draw from the holster Roland had rigged for her."

Neither of then looked down at that moment. Had they done, they would have seen Ted Brautigan-a old dog, yes, and tired, but perhaps not quite as tired as some thought- looking up at them.

"Eddie rolled off Susannah's chair - it tottered on one wheel before deciding to stay up - and stared in the direction from which the dwarf had come."

But I'd eat proper, beginning with the appetizer. Your eyes, I think. Give them to me.

Kennerly's grin was huge. His skin was yellow. His eyes rolled in their sockets.

His lips stretched in the pitted, flaked remains of his face. The grin was gruesome, painful.

"His reaction was instantaneous, inbred. He whirled on his heels while his hands pulled the guns from their holsters, the butts heavy and sure in his hands."

And the words were the same:
Are you sure?
Gunslinger, are you sure?

"Screw you," Zoltan croaked brightly. "Screw you and the horse you rode in on." The gunslinger nodded amiably.

"And may you have twice the number."

Should we make this a little harder and say the quote has to have two words from the quote before it? and not joining words like and, it, to etc.

Thoughts?

I agree with the two words part, but not with the joining words part; you're apt to spend a good while searching for a sentence like that. What does everyone else think?

I don't really know but we should find out the rules quickly because it's a really good thread.
If you ask me fever is right we shouldn't make it too hard because it will go very slowly or sooner or later it will stop.

Using two words sounds okay to me IF the quote is long enough. If the quote has 6 words it will be damn hard to find a new one. So let's say that if the quote is long enough (it has more than 10 words) you must use 2 from it.
If noone posts a new one for 3 days you can use just one word as well.

(let me know what you think)

"Except there was no information, not really.
Copyright 1936,
it said. Numbers which added up to nineteen.
The rest was blank."

It made him think about what Eddie had said earlier: This whole deal has gone nineteen.

If the quote is shorter than 10 words, one word in common will do.

"He retreated, moving his body like a dancer to avoid the flying missiles."

Well, let's try it like that for a while, see how it all pans out.

I have a guess it doesn't work... maybe we should go back to the beginning because it's a nice game.
What do you think?

I agree

*hugs Brice* I love all the games with quotes and I don't like to see them getting lost.
Let's see what the others think about it.

Could you edit your first post, fever? To make it as clear as possible.

fernandito

Alright, fixed. I'll start us off (again):

"Jake went in, aware that he had, for the first time in three weeks, opened a door without hoping madly to find another world on the other side."

bergy81

Isnt it supposed to be a quote? Or does it really matter?

Letti
05-19-2008, 01:20 AM
It must be from the books, that's all. You will see I'm gonna pick one word (door) from the text above and I will try to find a new quote with it.

“Well,” Eddie said, “What was behind Door Number One wasn’t so hot, and what was behind Door Number Two was even worse, so now, instead of quitting like sane people, we’re going to go right ahead and check out Door Number Three.

Behind them, Sheb and Allie and the others lay crucified in the dust.

It suddenly raised its horrid, glowing face to Roland. It spread its arms wide, like something which has been crucified.
