I go out so rarely...

I am not sure I've ever had a bad entertainment experience but I don't want to be hated by King :panic:

I'm glad a whole bunch of you went out and put something though, I hope one makes it to the article.

Yeah, you might as well buy your Depends now and get ahead of the game.

I think Ms. Mod over there does the absolute best she can. I mean, SK is a person that needs to protect himself (unlike me), from things people say and the idiocy that happens on the internet.

Can you imagine if someone said something, someone else was hurt or offended out there, then SK would have to deal with something that could potentially cause damage. Weather it is image or actual lawsuit.

I would consider it a pretty difficult job, I feel for her sometimes.

With that being said, I like the set up we have here much better. I find its very hard to remember where I am posting on the official MB sometimes.

I am relatively certain a disclaimer would take care of any responsibilities he'd have for people's posts, but I do understand the idea of it.

Matt
02-05-2008, 07:59 AM
That makes a lot of sense Brice, I wonder if they have thought of that.

I guess it would be hard to call the place the "official web source for SK" and then post a disclaimer that the content is not officially tied to him.

I do know its a source of my angst on the board itself but I feel like I can at least understand the decision even if I don't agree with it.

I can too and it really wouldn't be hard to put up a reasonable disclaimer stating SK or stephenking.com was not responsible for material/opinions stated by members. I'm certain it would hold up if members had to see it and accept before registering. *shrug* I guess they just see it differently.

All it would take would be a disclaimer similar to "The owners of this site take no responsibility for the ideas expressed in the bulletin board." That should cover any claims.

I agree you guys, not sure why that's not possible

Like Sai King cannot afford a few full time moderators.

I find the SKMB rather cumbersome, to put it kindly.

If you saw some of the things vetoed by the moderator, you'd understand their policy.

I'm sure the place is a magnet for kookballs.
And...it's not like they crush all negative statements.

It's just the heavy handed feel of the place.

Bottom line, it's a free world.

Its a complex issue to be sure. I believe the one thing we can agree on is Ms. Mod is about as good a person as can be expected in a position with such limitations.

I suppose we could start a discussion thread about the SKMB somewhere. I'd love it if this one stayed about the topic Bev posted it for.

I think they're just uncomfortable with the idea.

I have no doubt Bev. I can imagine. If that girl who was complaining about not being able to have her messages read by King is any example just imagine the posts that don't make it on the board. Of course there is a simple solution...more mods and a quick ban for troublemakers.

No problem at all Brice. I get the feeling folks want to discuss it and I don't mind if there is a respectful thread for it somewhere on the board.

I have been reading the stories people have put up, most recently Mike Becks.

Great stuff, I bet he can use a lot of that.

My story got posted relatively quickly (I signed on as Noveen over there). I had to pm Ms Mod to edit my post as I forgot to put my name on it, and she was very sweet :)

According to Liljas (http://liljas-library.com/) Steve posted a thanks to all who submitted:

Hey, you guys—

Thanks so much for sharing your worst entertainment experiences. Not only did I get a great Entertainment Weekly column out of it, I almost laughed myself into cardiac arrest. I know that on one level it’s dreadfully mean to laugh at the misfortunes of others, but on another level…let’s just think of it as “identification and sympathy,” okay? It was great.

And speaking of Entertainment Weekly, I saw a great movie last week called Jumper and I can’t write about it for them because the executive producer also happens to be the guy who got me the EW gig. It would look like log-rolling. Probably this does, too, but I don’t care. It was the fun movie I hoped for last summer when Transformers opened (the only pic I walked out on all year; it offended even my low standards). Jumper is about a picked-on teen who discovers he can teleport. So if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to eat lunch on the head of the Sphinx, or take your girlfriend on a make-out expedition into the catacombs below the Roman Coliseum, this is the movie for you. You may have also wondered what Samuel L. Jackson would look like in a 1940s-style bathing cap. If so…check out the ’do.

Now you’re probably wondering, Uncle Stevie, how much did you get comped for this? Answer: not a penny. I’d tell you I liked this movie if Hugo Chavez was an executive producer. (Come to think of it, I’ve never seen Hugo and my pal Ralph in the same place, so maybe…) Aw heck, think of this as my little Forry Ackerman turn and go see the darn movie.

Plus…thanks again for having so many weird experiences. I loved em.

Steve

My story about seeing Pink Floyd at Rice Stadium made the cut!

Me too!!!! :)

And when Ariel went to see the punk band Die Toten Hosen (the literal translation, rather funny in itself: The Dead Pants), it turned out to be possibly the shortest concert in history. The drummer managed one riff before the stage collapsed and the entire band went down, clutching their instruments.

Actually, I enjoyed the part of the concert I got to see. It was the same day The Division Bell was released. It sucked that the show was cut short, but it was my one and only chance to see Pink Floyd. But I like telling the story--like the part where the canopy over the backup singers released a bathtub full of water on them every ten or fifteen minutes!

Excellent, Bev and Ari!

So did EW send you guys a complimentary copy of the magazine?

If not, Ari, I'll send you mine. :)

Thanks!!
No, Patrick. I didn't receive the magazine (and I don't think I will...no one asked for my address. :) ) THANKS!! I'd love to have yours!!!

The concert I attended was suspended that day and took place on the next day. If you like good punk rock and hard rock, you should go and see Die Toten Hosen. Their performances last more than 2:30 Hs and they are extremely powerfull in the scenario. The singer (Campino) plays with the crowd and you leave the theater exhausted due to all the energy you spend during the concert. :)

SK is a great writer and I respect his opinions, but I just go to say.....Transformers was awsome. It was just a fun big budget summer blockbuster and that's how you have to look at it. You can't over think it, just enjoy it. Kinda like porn.

Strange that the actual magazine has a different title for the column.

Bev Vincent

No, that happens all the time. In fact, I've seen two or three different titles for the online version.

Randall Flagg
02-26-2008, 05:27 PM
In most situations with major publishers of -newspapers, magazines, etc. an editor chooses the title for the story. It is usually completely out of the authors hand. In addition, online content almost always has a different editor than print. Therefore these types of differences are not only common, but to be expected.

It would be awsome that the people mentioned would get a signed copy of the EW mag...
