View Full Version : Where are all the Ladies?

Sir_Boomme

It has come to my attention... that this end of the site tends to be almost totally male dominated.
I was wondering... I know there are a lot of female King fans out there, but...

Are there any female "COLLECTORS" of Stephen King out there, and if so, where are you? we seldom get posts from the gals... and hardly ever get to see examples of their collections.
While I realize I may be dooming this thread to a quick death... I'd like to see some female goodies shown here. (King related).

Like I sometimes say in the swinger's Bar I D.J. at weekends....

Ladies ONLY Dance time! calling all Ladies to the Dance floor!
Time to strut your stuff!:panic:

My collection isn't very impressive yet. I'd have to say for my part that when I was younger my money went on beer and then on the kids when I got a bit older.

There are alot of books I'd love to own, as soon as I go back to work full time the Talisman/Black House boxset is the first on my list.

Interesting question though, why the lack of lady collectors?

Hei!. I know guys who have more make up than me

Would love to show my small collection, but all my S/L and a lot of other 1st are packed up in boxes until my new bookshelf is built. An example below, the books are shelved 3 rows deep right now, times 6 more shelves like this.

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/197/books1ae4.jpg

Another very messy shelf:

http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8284/books2za0.jpg

A few interesting stuff: My set of The Plant, all signed to Michael McDowell, co author of candles Burning with Tabitha King

A 1st trade of DT V:

will post more pics once I've got a new place for my books.

Talking about pictures of book collections, would love to see Karen's, John's massive proof collection and I've never seen Shibus (Greg) or Hutch ( Dave)'s collection either.

Please post personal photos in the Collectors picture thread.
Links to sites such as Shibus are wonderful, but they will be eventually lost in a thread about "Ladies"-unless I am terribly mistaken and Greg is a woman.
I was under the belief that this thread would discuss the bereft of woman SK collectors.

You need $$$ to collect!

I try to buy hard cover when I can, and Mr. Woofer sometimes replaces my old Kings with hard covers. In fact, he's reason my W&G went from regular, mass-produced paperback to hard cover.

I used to joke about how that section of the shelves looked. Poor lil thing. Sitting there all short and stubby in the middle of my trade paperbacks and hard covers. That's how much I disliked the Susan storyline.

jhanic
02-02-2008, 07:51 AM
Woofer, I don't know if you've tried eBay or not, but there are often some really good deals out there on Stephen King hardcovers. Often, you might find first editions (of the later books) for less than $10, and Book Club editions (not all that collectible, but still hardcovers!) for less than $5.

They are also selling it WITH the Artist Edition of DT VII for $165.

I totally forgot about this. So Aaron has a lot of books, more so than me. I have a lot of well read paperbacks with a few hardcovers.

This first picture is the original of the dt.com logo, a Redrum bottle (all drank by me), and our giant stack of comics. The first arc is in the box, the second arc is on top and I think there's a couple off to the side. We have all the variants of first and second and double copies of a lot of them for some reason I haven't figured out yet. And Aaron scored a ton of the Stand sketchbooks at our local comic book store. I think that castlerock newsletter thing is signed by someone (not King), but I dunno cuz it's Aaron's.

http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8404/collection1gw8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

This is our main bookshelf. Most of our King stuff is on here.

I'm totally against declawing, so we trim her nails. Sometimes we put soft tips on them as well. But she doesn't dare to scratch the books, or the bookcases. Instead she scratches the back of the computer chair, doors, and wall corners.

Aaron would probably turn her out on the streets if she scratched one of his books. :scared:

jhanic
08-07-2008, 07:02 AM
I'm against declawing also--one of the reasons we had cats in the first place is that we live next door to a woods and, in the winter, would get lots of field mice, etc. in the house. We got a cat and that problem disappeared. I make sure my valuable books are out of scratching range.

Outdoor cats are the best. Especially when they leave presents for you in the form of dead frogs, birds, and mice. :D

I figure it's best to keep any collectibles worth anything away from the kids and the pets. Kids even more so than pets.

Oh, and I asked Aaron who had signed the Castlerock Newsletter thing; it was Phil Hale. Apparently there are three Drawing of the Three books signed by Phil Hale as well. And then the Phil Hale signed prints (currently residing in Aaron's office at work). Apparently Aaron has a thing for Phil Hale. Who knew?

jhanic

Our cats have never been strictly outdoor or indoor. We had one, Mischief, who was almost always outdoors, until one day she refused to go out. We think she may have been scared by a raccoon or something. Another cat we had, Oddity (named because he had an extra toe on each front foot), was almost always an indoor inhabitant. He seldom went outside for anything. Casper (pure white with one blue eye and one yellow one and completely deaf) liked either in or out. We always worried about him because of his deafness, though, every time he went out, and, sure enough, he got hit by a car in the street by our home. He just couldn't hear it coming.

I'm not a collector at all as I never felt the need to own things so I only have soft covers and I use the library a lot. In the end, I can show nothing like a "collection". Anyway, I don't give a damn about hardbacks because they're heavy and it's the story I care about, not the package :)

Okay...heres another lady checking in with my collection. I have every US 1st/1st except for Carrie, Night Shift and Salem's Lot...So I am only missing those three as of now. I actually owned a Carrie and a Night Shift at one point but sadly they are in someone elses collection at the moment. I also have three signed books. I have a signed JAS that I got personally and a signed DTVII by both Stephen King and Michael Whelan from the 9/20/04 signing here in CT and a signed Bare Bones. Its not much compared to others from this site but it is still my pride and joy ( after my two little boys of course....)

OK; Another Lady checking in. LOL. My Hubby does not like SK, he has other toys. LOL

My collection can be seen on Ebay & is in all my listings, though I need to update the photo as I keep adding.
Thanks for the warm welcome on the LSOE thread:excited:

On the subject of cats, I have several but none are declawed but some people have to have theirs declawed to to Cat Scratch Fever & several other Immune diseases or they couldn't have a cat. I clip my cats & dogs nails myself. According to my Vet who I've gone to for 16 years, the things you put on their paws are not good as the claw needs room to grow & also bacteria can grow inside due to no air circulation. BTW; My SK case is glass enclosed & turn of the Century & my Hubby made me a glass enclosed case for Dean Koontz.:)

Have a great day:excited:

OK; I'll have to pull from my photos, they are hard because to get because the case is so large & the sun has to be shining a certain way to get a proper photo. But I will go now & post to here, I can't update until Spring to get a good photo & the whole case top to bottom will not fit. BRB I hope :nana:

Yep, sorry for the slight delay on that weathervane.

The site is so popular it gets attacked by SPAM on a regular basis. So we have a system that evaluates members under 10 posts and puts them aside if it feels like they might be something.

It's automated and sometimes catches legitimate members too. The site is very much instant posting so it shouldn't effect you for long :couple:

Checking in--I missed this thread before! Can't take pictures just now, but let's see what have I got? I have about 25 1st/1st some a little difficult to find, others not! Rose Madeer ARC, The Dark Half UK proof, Russian eds of The Dark Half & Rage, and a few quirky items like the Tom Gordon pop up book, a Dark half French movie poster & just picked up the promo book of Wizard & Glass that replaced the Desperation/Regulators book light.

I only started collecting after t/song gave me three first/firsts for my birthday in July so I don't think I'm doing half bad...I drank the Kool-Aid & I'm hooked now!

EDIT: & how could I forget?! I have a signed first of On Writing that my beloved gave me for Christmas.

weathervane.... nice collection...but.....PLEASE!

buy some cheapo book ends and stand those books upright... otherwise they'll get spine lean in no time which will totally ruin them!

here's what they'll be looking like if you keep them angled....

LOL; The DK is now full & then some, they used to be in the SK case. Thanks for the tips on the spines, I must say in my defense the pic of the DK case was taken the day DH made it & I was filling it. I'm really fussy about my books & if I recieve a spine slanted book, it gets given away:nope: I guess I better update my photos:)

BTW; The SK case is completely full & then some as I was switching books at the time these were taken. In AZ, you must take extreme care with your books due to lots of dust & evaporative coolers, which we have instead of AC. In the Summer & Monsoon season, all my books (& not glasss enclosed) FS are laid flat versus standing up & my Max OD Truck on the top has been weather ( no pun intended:P) proofed by DH who sprayed a plastic fixitive which is used for Art Work. :excited: Thanks for your comments as always:)

I just realized something funny--in the main forum they are asking us ladies to post pictures that give an idea of what our chests look like--here, you want to know what our collections look like! I'm not sure which feels more revealing, although I think my collection will go live on the Internet before my knockers do!

J-

I also welcome you to these pages and have admired your collection from afar for some time.

Ah, yes, Arizona summers and the Monsoon season. I did my graduate work at U of A in Tucson way way back. I remember arriving in early August to the greatest heat I'd ever felt. The first night there, the lead story on the local news channel talked about the tarantula mating season, and I thought to myself, "where the hell am I?". Then before the first week was out, an afternoon rainstorm absolutely flooded the streets outside my apartment and I watched in awe as a guy on a surfboard rode past and waved at me on the balcony. Yes, Arizona is quite a place.

The names change by post count. JFK shows up for exactly 19 posts.
If you have accumulated enough Beam Bucks-through posting, gambling etc. you can buy the ability to change the name to whatever you wish.

Morning again from AZ:clap:

I can't remeber all you names & the questions to go with the names, so I'll answer as I remember. 1st;I love AZ, just don't like rattlesnakes & Tarantus which can be found about 1/2 from our hour during the season.Hubby has 2 bird dogs which can not hunt during snakes season, though they are vaccinated for snakes.

Next cool:excited: about the screen names or the writings underneath. LOL

Next Thanks for the compliments on my collection & I can not get a closer or larger picture due to the size of the case:nope: Will try again this summer though:excited: I need to update it anyway, has lots more cool things in it now:nana:

Next;On top of the case next to THE TRUCK is a promo Max OD sleeve for a VHS & a copy in PB of Night Shift. These were promos & came in a pkg & NFS:nope: They cost a pretty penny, but I had to have them. LOL. They've caused alot of people to ask questions & to look:excited:
Needfulkings; Since I don't know your Ebay name I don't know, but I only had the one copy, so it was probably you.

Oh, also my Ebay account is under DH'S name as I set it up. LOL

Hi; That is Mist the Ultimate Collection, The Creature is a pop-up. Really cool. It's flat because I leave it in the box. Bought one for me & then one for my Daughter. They came frome Paris France. The seller never put SK in the Title when he listed, so I doubt there are many in the USA or anywhere else for that matter:nana:

Hi; It says on the back

Languages; Thai 5.1/ English 5.1
Subtitles; Thai/English

Down at bottom on the back;

Widescreeen 16x9

Produced in Thailand

When I ordered it, the seller gave preference of Englisg or ?

All the writing on the pkg is in English. I have not tried to play it as I have the Collectors Edition & I went to see the movie. You're supposed to be able to play it. I'll have to ask my Daughter the next time I talk to her if she has played hers. I doubt it though because she has seen the movie 3 times at the Theatre & has the Collectors edition too. She's a die hard SK fan like her Mom ( me), so I buy her alot of SK. She gets the goood stuff when I'm gone...:huglove:
