Turns out all sets are not created equal.
Some sets are all 1st editions & others are mixed.
1.Where did you get your set?
2.Did you get all 1st editions?
Also TARGET ads show black dust jackets on the sets.
YES or NO?
also according to the internet these TARGET sets are NOT for sale in the stores.
YES or NO?

I'll report my findings when I receive it.

Well I was honest and told them that I wasn't pleased with the packaging. A rather heavy boxed set with just your typical amazon air bubbles. The slipcase did have a minor imperfection. Prime members get free 1 day shipping on this so they ordered the replacement yesterday and it arrived this morning.

To be honest, Amazon customer service will usually bend over backwards for you. I doubt I had to give them much of a reason to get a replacement anyways and that kind of customer service does pay off for them. At least that has been my experience with them.

The same as Aron, the packaging. The slipcase was a tiiiny bit bumped(which really doesn't bother me at all but it's a good excuse). I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot because you're right, there is no guarantee of a first MM this time either.

Edit: I'm not really going to do this a million times. I have a first MM so it's all good but it would be nice to have the set be all firsts. If it's in the cards fine, if not that's fine too :)

Do they get bulk remaindered to a 3rd party?

For me it was a few alphabet books, C is for Cat, D is for Dog, you know, nothing serious. Then I moved on to paperbacks, I couldn't get enough. Then the inevitable, a 'friend' introduced me to the hardbacks... I thought, just one... But then I was in deep, now it's 2 or 3 a month. S/L's when I can get them...

Long story short, it's shipped via UPS, but they partner with USPS and the box is currently at the post office on a pallet. They didn't have time to break it down before the carrier left for the day on his deliveries. So supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

Well of course it's limited. Scribner is only producing X amount.
Target probably dropped it (like Amazon will) as returns exceeded sales (sounds impossible I know-negative sales numbers. In my career we called that "shrink"-the difference between expected profits and realized profits. Just replace "returns" with "theft" and it's the same principle.).

WRONG! Due to the fact that TARGET was only selling the sets on line & they just started to show up today. There is no reason (or time) for any of them to be returned & I assume there are only a few of us that even know what editions are in the sets & who really give a shit. "THEY SIMPLEY SOLD OUT"

Ouch! I paid right at $90 and some change once the CDCC coupon was applied from CD. Amazon would have definitely been cheaper but not regrets supporting my favorite small press. I believe a poster of some sort is supposed to come with the CD set as well. Be interesting to see if all of these will be 1st.

This set should drop considerably in price as 1st editions start to dry up. As word has gotten out that 2nd printings are now being used, it will make a full set of 1st printings more difficult to buy new and will increase its resale value. However the books used are identical to the standard trade editions, which can still be bought at quite low prices on eBay. My advice, get hold of a couple of cheap 1st editions of Mr Mercedes and maybe Finders Keepers NOW and use them to replace the 2nd printings when Amazon starts selling this at less than half price...

You might consider ordering another and waiting to send back the damaged unit. If the new one has all 1st's, no need to open the shinkwrap on the damaged one, just return it. If by chance the new one has a second (or 2 or 3), you can then open the damaged one and swap books where possible.

I got my set, but alas the slicase was split, and I did not even bother to open the shrinkwrap.
You might consider ordering another and waiting to send back the damaged unit. If the new one has all 1st's, no need to open the shinkwrap on the damaged one, just return it. If by chance the new one has a second (or 2 or 3), you can then open the damaged one and swap books where possible.

Was thinking the same thing......that I could "Frankenstein" a set together.

I have all three of the true trade 1st editions that are signed by SK. Not sure I want to remove the proper DJ's and change them into something they were not originally signed as.

It could be "Frankensteined© tippy4", but one would be taking true signed 1st editions and swapping DJ's and putting the books in the slipcase.

Unless King signed each book mentioning BHT, it's always going to be an oddity.

Just like the True 1st editions of Clive Barker's Books of Blood There is a 1st Edition 1 State & a 1st Edition 2nd state.

The 1st state books after the fact had their covers removed & covers with Clive's art replaced them (on all 6 books).

I liken them to the DJ variants seen in Insomnia, Under The Dome, and Revival.

Got my replacement set from Amazon today....all 1sts.

Found that some of the books in the replacement set were not exactly perfect...so I opened the original set that I was sending back due to the slipcase being split, and found they were also all 1st editions.

Kept the slipcase from the second set, and kept the books from the first set.

Seems like the only book in the set that might come as a 2nd is Mr. Mercedes.....which being the oldest book in the set makes sense.

Might be best to keep 'em out of the slipcase (maybe bagged) in case you want to resell them at some point down the line and won't end up with a busted slipcase. Of course they won't display well in that state though :|

Two questions...

1) does the DJ's from the BHT set have prices on them, or are they plain like a BMOC edition?

B) would anyone care, just for "insurance purposes only" to place a value on the signed set that Sentinal received? I say it that way because they are beyond value in coolness alone!

Individually, the books would be worth ~$1,300 if they were just signed.

But now they are dated, inscribed with quotes from the books, and made out to a generic person.....plus the fact that there is a "matching set" would add value (just like a matching set of The Plant is been proven to sell more than a non matching set).

This is one of those items that you can't nail down a price....I could see it selling for $2,000 one day, and $5,000 on a different day.....and twice that a month later.

Not valuable by any means but was thinking along the lines if you just didn't want 'em anymore, donated to HF to acquire sigs or Remarques, etc.

Did anyone ever determine if there is a variant of the boxed set with black spines instead of white?

I just googled images of this trilogy and found a couple of sites where pics of black-spined boxed sets were shown, but the images seem to possibly date from prior to when the set was actually released. I saw further up in this thread where someone had speculated that the black-spined images might represent a possible forthcoming paperback boxed set. Has this been determined/resolved?

Here are the sites with the images in question:

No. This was a mistake by yours truly when writing the sales copy, and no one else in the office caught it either, unfortunately. In fact, I didn't know I had made the mistake until I was asked just now and I went back and looked!

With the exception of a few projects, we don't ask Tomislav to sign things because the first few times we tried were a bit of a disaster due to some very rough handling by one of the postal services between the US and where he lives. Like, I'm pretty sure there's someone in the system between us who has a vendetta against printed matter and won't allow it to arrive in one piece.

So we wouldn't have asked him to sign, and I just bungled the sales copy. Very sorry about that. Anyone who is bummed by this oversight should definitely send me an email (address below) and I'll find a way to make it up to you!

Naw, he was just using it as a reference point, but I thought this was a good time to mention that we really cannot do that because a few people over the years have legitimately asked. :) He's a good customer, so I think he was just pointing out the market on that particular title. (Which was, I admit, a depressing thing to see!)

The blasted art print tripped us up in two different ways -- including an issue with how the orders filled (or didn't get filled) in our order management system. The books + the print are two different items that both needed to fill at the same time. We'll be entering promotional items differently in the future. :)
