View Full Version : Your Favorite Character in The Dark Tower

We have talked a bit about Ticky and Gasher, Allie and the lovely Miss Pittston. Even, briefly, Katz from the pharmacy.

How about the rest?

I'm thinking in particular of the woman in the last book, that drove Roland to NY? He threw her a fuck even though he didn't want to.

Seems like Roland did that a lot.

yeah, Roland is always good for a roll in the sack. LOL!

We don't really see a lot bit players that aren't flashbacks until Wolves of the Calla. Now we are in full swing of new players and storylines. I always liked Rosalita. She was hard core simple and to the point. I like a good well written woman and SK does just fine by her, imo.

Matt

Allie... then that ghost... then nothing for God knows how long... then Rosalita, for only a few days... and in some time, at last, Irene... and nothing again till the very end, which wasn't very close.

Mine is hands down, Roland. He was the first person you get to know. He is the last gunslinger and he is on a quest. The whole flashback storytelling of Tull is what sent me full swing into Roland's quest.

Don't get me wrong, I love the entire ka-tet, but Roland is number one for me.

Okay, here you can't mention Roland, Eddie, Jake, Susannah, Oy or Callahan.
Let's try to look for those characters who didn't have a big part in the story but they touched us and burnt into our memories.

For example I liked Allie so much. The way she wanted to love and to be loved again in the moved world...

off the top of my head, john cullum and tian jaffords. tian especially because

he tried to raise the calla to action before he knew he'd have the help of gunslingers.

It's like in he Green Mile with John Coffey... I tend to want to take the broken guys home and mend them, take care of them... that's how I ended up bringing home so many foster animals before I met my husband, and probably why I was okay with dating a guy who had a daughter, and later marrying him...

Oh great nurturer me...

That's also why I like some of the bad guys... because I think there must be some good in them and I could fix them...

Still striving to be a super-hero *le sigh*

Rosalita - she was practical, funny, intelligent, independant...so much so i can forgive all those cheesy "gander" jokes she and Roland made. I hope the clearing at the end of Roland's path is Rosie's cottage ;)

I know this is really cliche, but I have to say Roland, I loved the guy from the time when he followed the man in black. He, and his world always represented a huge mystery to me. For many years he gave me something to look forward to, and we walked a looong journey together. We met hundreds of people long the way, and left some behind, killed some, and lost some of our most precious friends and family members, but we travelled a long distance, stood at the foot of the tower, cried the names of our friends, and family, and stood true to the end.

The funny thing is that there really are people like that in Manhattan-especially in Midtown or inside of any major PATH station-but none of them are as entertaining the Gaaawd Bomber. There are a few who stand about a block from Bryant Park with laminated photos of aborted fetuses though. They're out there every Thursday like clockwork.

Andolini is great because he fits the archetype of a two-bit hoodlum who works for a larger crime syndicate, but has no idea what he's actually doing.

He's like an urban version of one of the big coffin hunters. A cog in a larger machine.

Plus, he's ugly. Not ordinary ugly, but Tommy Lee Jones or Danny Trejo type of ugly. How cool would that look on-screen?

He's just an all-around great ancillary character.

Cuthbert is too cool for words. Lava would freeze under his feet. Not only is he handsome, but he's also funny, smart, sharp, sensitive, and a kickass gunslinger. He also reminds me a lot of me in a macabre way. I totally would've made a necklace from a bird's skull.

Listen to AllHail, k01.
Anyway I didn't like Jack Mort, not because he was ill and he killed people (it might sound crazy but Blaine did the same and I could like the character) but because he was such a coward - before Roland he thought he was the smartest creature of the universe.

Ruthful

That's pretty typical of psychopaths-especially serial killers-which is another reason I didn't particularly care for Mort. While there are tons of fascinating evil creatures in TDT he struck me as being an almost stock character.

Ok, Andolini is one of my favorite secondary characters because he's this big ugly ass lump of a man. He's a viscious criminal. But he's also very intelligent. He's wily as all get out but looks like he'd be a rock. He's Luca Brazi with a brain.

Also, part of King's description of him struck me as a damn fine piece of writing...when King was talking about how he turned his head to look at Eddie...how he did so slowly and it looked like something that took a lot of effort. How he described this really drove home just how big the man was.

I was never that in to Rosalita, I don't recall her description being very informative either. She could look like Jennifer Lopez or she could look like the chick that changed the sheets in my hotel room. All I really recall about her was that she was middle aged, was the Pere's maid/cook, was into home remedies, and that she fucked Roland. This last piece not appearing to be much of an accomplishment. I think Roland would screw just about anyone. (don't get me wrong...its one of his better qualities, in my opinion)

She was left up to your cock and balls imagination, Cozener. Plus, some hotel room women are pretty damn hot...oh and Letti's right. Your heart is just with Ms. Pittston.

John Cullum... Daddy Mose was pretty cool too... I also liked Irene and Stutterin Bill Maintenance Robot (Many Other Functions)... I liked Ted because I kept picturing him as Anthony Hopkins (and he's a REAL knight lol).. and of course Sheemie in his undying loyalty... i think he deserved a better death than he got... Sai King probably agrees.

Henry Dean - who else but King could create a character like that, that has such an impact on one of the major players, but hardly appears in the story?

But the way he appears AND disappears is badass.

The "Who's Your Favourite From The Ka-tet" thread is very popular, but if your favourite character isn't included in that group then I've merged and bumped this thread for you! :D
