I have read WaG 3 times but it's hard to remember at that part because it... I don't know. For me it didn't fit at all.
The castle... Tick-Tock man... little shoes... and after that sandwiches and picnic?!?!
I don't have any serious problems with it but I think I don't get the point.
So if you have any opinion about it or any explanations here I am. :)

Have you read or watched The Wizard of Oz, Letti? There is a whole running theme with the Wicked Witch and the Rainbow, etc. For me its part of the many mysteries within the Dark Tower series.

Yes, I know it very well. (As I child I wanted to be an actress and once I got a role to play the evil witch but I gave up that carier before I could have stood on the stage as the evil witch.)
Good tale and I remembered it when I was reading the book, too but... I don't know.
But what was it?
A trap?
Why did they get food at the end?
I guess my fantasy is not wide enough. :)

It was meant to be a trap by Randall Flagg yes, and he was having great fun with them in the process, the food its not known...I think it was left by Flagg as a further joke.

Flagg was just a caring citizen, looking out for the hungry ;)
