Back in about 1990 I discovered the wonderful world of cycling. I instantly fell in love with it. I rode the MS150, which is a 150 mile bike ride over two days, and rode two century rides, which are single day 100 mile rides. I had a long period of time where I lost interest, but I am getting back into the groove. I'm going to go have all new compoments installed on my bike very soon, and can't wait for summer. Is anyone else a cycling fan, like watching bike races, etc...?

I used to ride back in the early 1990s. Completed a few century rides, including the Hotter than Hell Hundred in Witchita Falls -- 11,000 people. Then it got so built up around here that I stopped feeling safe riding on the roads so my bike is now collecting cobwebs.

For a second I saw that as "early 1900s"..

Yeah, I'm kinda running into the same problem, although we have a pretty extensive trail system. The problem is, I don't really feel safe riding on the trails either. There seem to be a lot of people out there who don't ride safely, and there are always families and kids around too. This year I'm going to have to try and find some decent roads to ride on, because the trails just don't cut it. What kinda bike you have? Have you looked at, or ridden any of the new ones? I have an old Fuji, with a Chromolley frame, that I love. I've kicked around the idea of a new bike for a long time, and I might still go that way, but right now I'm really kind of intent on replacing all of the components on mine with Shimano 105 stuff.

I grew up in a bicycling family and have been bicycling massive miles since the late seventies. Unfortunately my very nice mountain bike was stolen from my garage back in 97..

I don't know, are their seats that don't slowly crush your genitalia out now?

Yes, there are gel seats that are padded with the same material they use to make breast implants. Gloves, too, with the palms padded so your fingers won't go to sleep from supporting your upper body on long rides.

I don't ride the trails, though we have a massive network of them. Around here they're meant more for pedestrians and leisure cyclists, not people who like to go 20-25 mph like I did back in the day.

Well, in that case..yeah I would like to buy another.

The technology has improved dramatically. A lot of manufacturers have gone to great pains to design new seats that are a lot more comfortable. Some of the new ones look like they might slide right up your ass if you're not careful though.

I have a pair of shorts that have a gel insert in them also, it's fuckin heaven compared to the old ones.

I had a Marin back in the 90's, I had it for about 6 years until it got stolen :(

I don't have a MTB now, I just have a bog standard bike - I'd love to get another Marin, Specialized or maybe a Cannondale though, as I don't drive so i cycle everywhere.

I love bikes. I was thinking of getting a summer job in a local bike shop.

I was looking really hard at Specialized a while back, they make some sweet bikes. Have you ever ridden an aluminum bike? I've heard they're a rough ride, but then I've also heard that the newer ones with the carbon fiber forks moderate that a lot.

This is my new bike. If I'd have known just how sweet this bike is, I'd never have waited this long!!!

Yanno, funny thing, it looks like it would be an incredible pain in the ass, but I'm getting used to it, and it might be the most comfortable seat I've ever had.

T, I just got a new Gary Fischer Bike. I'm kind of a beginner, but I'm looking forward to riding some trails during my spring break next week.
