View Full Version : Hypothetical future King movie to win an Oscar?

After last night's ceremony a thought occurred to me that a movie based on a Stephen King work hasn't been nominated for an Oscar in a long time. I checked and the last one appears to be The Green Mile (1999), which was nominated for Sound Mixing, Supporting Actor (Michael Clarke Duncan), Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture. It won none. The last King movie to win an Oscar was of course Misery (1990) and Kathy Bates winning Best Actress.

So that got me thinking and I'm hoping this could start some interesting debate: with many projects on the horizon already and any number of hypothetical movies you can think of, which could be the next movie to receive an Oscar nomination or win? Based on nothing in particular, just pure speculation.

Anything King related that is directed by Frank Darabont, should at least receive a Best Picture nomination.

If done right, The Long Walk could be fantastic.

Personally, I'd love to see a feature film version of The Man in the Black suit.

This. I would love to see him make a film from that story.

What about any of the movies in the pipeline now like It or The Stand?

They both need Frank Darabont on board to even stand a chance!

I think this will come to pass as I can see Hollywood milking at least 4 movies out of this trilogy. Agreed that Frank would have to be at the helm for it to get a nod.

I don't think it will be The Dark Tower based off the recent news/rumors about how they are going to approach it.

Also, It sounds like it is going to be a mess because of the turnover at the top so I would say It doesn't have a chance either.

I could see a version of The Wind Through The Keyhole in the style of The Princess Bride by Rob Reiner (also Stand By Me, Misery) or The Fall by Tarsem Singh (also The Cell and Immortals) or even Legend by Ridley Scott (all lot of good ones.)
Colorful and adventurous for the whole family.
