Bill, I'll count the first nomination first and the second after two more nominations in between. I have also updated the nomination format itself for you.

And we're at 55 unseconded tracks, which is pretty amazing. Some true classics in that bunch, so we need to get to seconding, peeps! Not everything needs to be seconded, but everything that needs to be seconded needs to be seconded!

I just jotted down 17 songs from this time period alone I still want to nominate. With a little thought, I could triple that. Such a great period for music!

Let's go with this one:

I think I can nominate again, if I'm interpreting post #255 correctly. If so, I'd like to nominate Take the Long Way Home by Supertramp (1979). Again, the only versions I can find on You Tube are live versions or modified versions featuring only the lead singer. I know everyone is familiar with this song and someone can certainly second without a video if so inclined. So I'll leave it like this and maybe Pablo can help out.

LOL. Behind the George Thorogood and rockabilly-lovin', I also find a spot for sappy folk music and lovely songs (A lot of John Denver's stuff; Patsy Cline; Carpenters, etc. are good). And this is a pretty song, I think.

I was able to find what sounds like the album version on one of the shadier video hosting sites. Nothing on any of the legitimate ones. Artists and labels really do themselves a disservice by removing their music from YouTube.

According to wiki: "In 1977, We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions were issued together as a worldwide top ten single" so I think you could combine them here as well.

I'll proactively second the COMBO.

I don't know; we considered Elton John's Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding as one song. I would think the same about Boston's Foreplay/Long Time (but I don't think that got nominated).

Your call, of course, just giving another perspective.

This is what I read and why I considered them separate songs: "The single featured "We Will Rock You" as a B-side, and followed the song on the album. The two songs were often played consecutively at the close of Queen concerts, and are customarily played together on radio broadcasts (in album order)"

Anyone want to nominate something? I can't go yet and I have oodles of good stuff burning up here... Hopefully it can get considered for the last few remaining spots. Plus, hopefully peeps can still consider the beautiful Pat Metheny track, the classic Natalie Cole song, the epic that is 2112, the last song ever by The Doors, the iconic and smooth Chuck Mangione track, and the great Donna Summer and Barbara Streisand collaboration. Tons of great stuff, in other words, plus I'm sure in addition to my list of songs yet to be nominated we all can do quite a few more.

Fuck! I should have nominated this a lot earlier....

Does anybody object if I trade this song for my earlier seconded nomination: Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star, which is at #66 on the list?

Man, you got a serious hard-on for David Bowie. Don't you think he's well-represented enough in these threads?

Well, what I mean is David Bowie has had a fair run of nominations and secondings (heck, *I* nominated Modern Love), but it's a bit much to go in and start swapping out songs after the fact, dontcha think? He's very well represented as is.

This is a great one-for-two deal, but I didn't feel right nominating it, since it's really two songs in one, and I wasn't sure what to do. But they flow one into another, so it's always one to me:

Talking about missing (or purposely bypassing) mega popular songs...

We did not even nominate the song that was the undisputed biggest hit of the 70s:
--it set the record for longest tenure at #1 (beating out Hey Jude)
--even now, almost 40 years later, it still makes the top 10 in Billboard's "Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs"
--won or nominated for numerous awards, including winning 2 Grammys, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe
--was sung by an artist for their first ever solo album

additional trivia: the Billboard-topping release was actually a cover of a lip-synced version of the song

It should be pretty easy to guess now, right?

Sounds like "You Light Up My Life". A shame indeed. Feel free to nominate the LeAnn Rimes version from 1997.

You want another hint?

That's what I would've guessed. It's the only song in the top ten that's from the 70's.

Yes, it was You Light Up My Life. Pablo changed his post, so it looks like I was responding to that (when in actuality it was a different post).
