"Beware the man of one book."
----Latin Proverb

"As book collectors know all too well: We only regret our economies, never our extravagances."
----Michael Dirda(Washington Post Book Critic)

“Sometimes, looking at the many books I have at home, I feel I shall die before I come to the end of them, yet I cannot resist the temptation of buying new books. Whenever I walk into a bookstore and find a book on one of my hobbies — for example, Old English or Old Norse poetry — I say to myself, “What a pity I can’t buy that book, for I already have a copy at home.”
―--- Jorge Luis Borges, This Craft of Verse

I began reading as a young boy, primarily Hardy Boys books, The Hobbit, and other standard young male fare. When I was in high school, I stumbled onto King. My first experience of anything connected to Stephen King came when I went to see Carrie as a 15 year old in the local movie theater. I then went and picked up a copy of Salem's Lot and haven't stopped reading King since. Boy, do I wish I had held on to those hardback books I had purchased back in the day. I'm a huge fan of the Dark Tower series, but I was one of those Constant Readers that had never picked up The Gunslinger until several years ago. Now, I've finished all of the books and love them.

Being a Constant Reader and appreciator of good books, it seems it's only natural to progress from being an accumulator of books to a collector. In addition to King, I also collect Dean Koontz, George R.R. Martin and have been trying to put togther a collection of the John D. MacDonald Travis McGee hardback, 1st/1sts. As far as King, my interests are signed limiteds, lettered editions, proofs and manuscripts. I'm still a voracious reader and enjoy Lee Child, the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva, Robert Crais, and lots of other popular fiction.

After hanging around thedarktower.org for a little more than a year now and admiring everyone else's collection threads, I decided the time has come to start my own thread. While my day job keeps me pretty busy, I'll try and update this as I have time.

First up is my collection of books about King. I really enjoy reading the back stories behind the books, the stories about other collectors and King's evolution as an author.

Nice to see someone else posting their 'Books about King' acquisitions, a topic very close to my heart

One or two there I am very jealous of, especially the 75 copied Man and Artist, I've been looking for that for a while.

Very nice Jeff. I picked up a copy of "Stephen King: Man and Artist" 1 / 75 S/L, about 10 years ago at a small bookstore in Bangor (not Betts), and I thought it was a beautiful edition. I had never heard of it before and so I bought it. I have never seen a copy since. Mine was only signed by Terrell, but it is a lovely book. Well done.

Gerald and Stroppy,

Thanks for the nice words, guys! Before I found the 1/75 "Stephen King: Man and Artist," I first picked up the Red numbered Eyes of the Dragon inscribed to Carroll Terrell. So, I did my best to learn more about Mr. Terrell and once I learned who he was and his connection to Stephen King, I searched for his books and luckily stumbled onto the Man and Artist and quickly snatched it up. Like you guys, I think the 1/75 Man and Artist is beautiful book. Here are pics of the Eyes of the Dragon:

Thanks, John! I always enjoy your comments and feedback. Plus, I LOVE your proof collection--something to aspire towards!

A VERY nice collection !!!

Thank you very much!!! One of the other great things about this board is that you actually get feedback on your collection--not so much in real life and in the day to day existence.

One of my favorite items that I acquired from Tim (AKC) is also a red lettered Eyes of the Dragon. Like many others here, Tim has been very generous with me and passed on to me several of his treasured possessions in his pursuit of bigger and better things. This item is one of my favorites and isn't likely going anywhere anytime soon. In addition to the low number, I love that it was given as a Christmas gift from Stephen King to Don Grant. In a perfect world, I guess it would be no. 19 (SK didn't know the significance of that number in 1984), but I'm not complaining! Now, if I can just find that matching Plant set inscribed to Don Grant. I have a recollection of reading on here that it already resides in someone's collection.

I agree that looking at the way everyone displays their pride and joys is so much of the fun in scrolling through collection threads. Some of my favorites are Room 217's , Bob's, Jerome's, and many others--lots of creativity on display. There are many awesome posters on this site who don't have collection threads who I wish did--I'd love to see how they display their collections. Thanks for the comments, guys!

While I'm proud of my collection, I feel the same way when I look through so many others collections that have so many cool, hard to find books, proofs, art and other pieces that I aspire to eventually collect. Some of the members who have been collecting for all of their lives have truly stunning collections. All of us have to remember that Rome wasn't built in today and that there are many items I'll never acquire, but I am having a blast putting my collection together. I love it when carlosdeitweiler and neotrinity post their newest acquistions or share some of their stories about how they acquired items in their collection--by far, one of the best benefits of being an active member of this forum.

Although the text of the pop up book wasn't written by King, I still think this signed limited is cool, although I understand all the negative comments about the pricing problem when it first was issued. I've kept it sealed in the box and have never opened it yet. Mine is number 69.

Like most of here, I love the job that Centipede Press did on the Salem's Lot signed limited. Thanks to a member who has treated me very well on this site, I was able to pick up this copy of Salem's Lot this past summer. Although I now own the red numbered S/L (which is really tough to find), ironically enough I have not been able to acquire a traycase with prints for my gift edition of the Centipede Salem's Lot--all things in time (hopefully). In any event, I am a darn lucky man to have this one in my collection. This, along with several other items, is one of the centerpieces of my collection.

It's a gorgeous, massive book and so well put together. Before I received mine, I thought it would be about the same size as the gift edition, but it is a monster! Thanks for the comment!

My Dark Tower Collection

As I mentioned above, I did not read The Dark Tower series until several years ago, but fell in love with the characters and the story. I have volumes 1-7 and WTTTK of the trade editions and matching number set no. 445 of the signed, limited edition. Now, if I can just lay hands on no. 445 of Little Sisters of Eluria and Wind Through The Keyhole. In addition to the needle in the haystack search for my missing no. 445s, I next want to see if I can acquire the various Artist Editions. Currently, I do not own any, although I was fortunate enough to purchase the Michael Whelan signed numbered lithograph set of 4 numbered 445. Also, thanks to the benevolence of killjoy72, I was able to purchase the Gunslinger Audio S/L no. 445. My 445 Dark Tower collection is probably (it's a tough call) the pride and joy of my collection.

Trade edition set Also pictured is my trade edition signed and dated by Stephen King and Michael Whelan

Paul, thanks for the encouraging words. I got lucky that the Audio turned up right around the time of my purchase of the S/L set. I also was fortunate that the Whelans still had set no. 445 of the Dark Tower prints. In addition, I tried to purchase no. 445 of the S/L book, "The Art of Michael Whelan," but it had already been sold; however, Mrs. Whelan was able to find no. 45 for me and Michael drew a cool Roland remarque in the book.

I am curious about the Quaker Oats box?

You have an eagle eye! I had to go back and see in what photo the Quaker Oats box was visible in. Unfortunately, it is not a rare, prototype proof of an original Quaker Oats box from the early 1900s. Instead, it is a gift from Quaker Oats with my face on it--not a flattering portrayal :). I received it as a memento from an in-house lawyer for a case I represented them on.

IT, The Stand and The Dark Tower Series are my favorite Stephen King tales. I really wanted to acquire a Lettered IT and with a little help from a friend I was able to locate one at a reasonable price. I also love proofs and now have the complete Cemetery Dance IT collection with the exception of the unbound proof distributed with the Stephen King Collectors grab bag--one of the best CD deals ever offered! I'm so pleased I quickly jumped on that when it was offered. Lots of wheeling and dealing later, I'm happy to have added these to the collection. Also, shown is a Viking IT Review Copy with Review Copy slip and Newsletter style press release.

I absolutely love collecting Manuscripts, proofs and ARCs. I have a fairly extensive collection of non-Stephen King items (only modern fiction) and have only been collecting King related pre-publication material over the past couple of years. Needless to say, collecting pre-publication material is challenging and generally expensive as those on this board can attest. As far as King related material, most of what I have acquired so far is readily available and can be found in most other King proof collections. While I am off to a decent start, I have a VERY long way to go and am looking forward to growing my pre-publication collection. I'll try and post what I think are some of my cooler/htf/different manuscripts and proofs first. Here are a couple of manuscripts I stumbled upon:

Misery manuscript with unusual "rejection" recommendation--just posting the first and last page of the letter. If anyone is familiar with the names in the letter, please let me know. This just seemed to me to be a really unusual and cool piece, particularly with the accompanying letter.

Signed and dated Firestarter As everyone knows, finding flatsigned proofs dated at or near the date of publication is tough! This one is inscribed to Stuart. My understanding based on conversations with others, although not confirmed, is that it is inscribed to Stuart Schiff of Whispers Magazine. This proof came from David at Bett's during his "Proof-a-palooza."

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/00212.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/0039.JPG

Signed and dated Gerald's Game Another darktower.org member who has been very generous and helpful to me in building my collection is the Room 217 Caretaker (Ralph). Ralph has generously sold me quite a few proofs and many cool items that are now in my Joe Hill collection. It is people like Ralph that make this site such a wonderful place to hang out and interact. I purchased this signed and dated proof from Ralph. I really like how King scratched through the date and his name and replaced them with the date of his signature and then his real signature.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/00513.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/00612.JPG

Full Dark No Stars Black tape proof My understanding is that this proof is extremely rare and that there are very, very few known to exist. This is my "even a blind pig can find an acorn" proof in that I just happened to be on eBay at the right time (immediately after it was listed) and happened to be the one quick on the trigger.

The Dark Tower proofs I've got a long way to go on this series, but at least I'm off to a decent start on the U.S. proofs--I don't any of the UK Dark Tower series proofs. Naturally, I am missing all of the Gunslinger proofs and only have the common version of the Drawing of the Three. I need to find a Wastelands, Plume and Grant. Fortunately, I do have the Wizard and Glass WITH prints thanks to the Room 217 Caretaker. I stumbled on to the WTTKH proof on eBay in a lucky deal since it is somewhat hard to find. Based on the catalogue and what I've read, there is no LSOE proof, right? Here is what I have of the Dark Tower series proofs:

Thanks, Jon! I didn't know the UK UTD slipcase was so fragile. I will be very careful with it--thanks for the heads up! I was exchanging posts with jhanic a few days ago and we were discussing the apparent scarcity of BOBD proofs. I don't think I'm speaking out of school because our exchange was on a public thread and not private, but he mentioned he would probably be offering one for sale at the beginning of next year.

The signed GERALD'S GAME is really awesome. May I ask for a closeup picture?
I am struggling to read the inscription...

Absolutely! I love this one, too! Here you go:

Just so there is no confusion, the note to the Constant Reader and the inscription itself are pre-printed on the page of all the Gerald's Game hard copy proofs. King scratched out "Constant Reader" and inscribed it to "Phil" and then scratched out the pre-printed signature and flat signed beneath the pre-printed signature. In any event, I still think it's pretty cool and had not seen one signed like this previously.

While I understand many don't like collecting proofs of reprints or anniversary editions, I really enjoy collecting the Cemetery Dance proofs. Rather than thinking of them as reprints, I think of them as being proofs of signed limited and/or artist editions. I guess it's all in one's perspective. Can you imagine what a proof of a Phantasia Press Firestarter or The Mysterious Press Cujo might go for today--I wonder if any exist??? Also, while I may never own a Doubleday proof of Salem's Lot or The Stand, I at least have a chance to own one from CD. I think one of the best deals ever offered by CD was the SK Grab Bag that brought a lot of the very difficult to find proofs to the marketplace. I was very active on eBay and trading/purchasing with a few dt.org members to try and grab as many as I could before the supply dried up. As far as King CD proofs go, I'm off to a pretty good start. My understanding is that there is not an in-house or advance review copy of the CD From a Buick 8 limited edition. While I have the in-house Doctor Sleep, I haven't seen a review copy of the limited edition. Does one exist?

Here's what I have collected so far from CD:

Blockade Billy Advance Review Copy I picked up a copy of the traycase on one of CD's big sales and like to keep copies of the proofs in these when they are available. I also picked up one for the Riding the bullet ARC.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/Pop_020.JPG

Full Dark No Star proofs Fortunately, I have been able to pick up all three versions of this one.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/Pop_016.JPG

The Dark Man proofs

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/01511.JPG

IT proofs

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/01417.JPG

Secretary of Dreams proof I still need Vol. 1 and am unsure if an in-house proof of this one exists.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/00514.JPG

Riding the Bullet proof

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/Pop_023.JPG

Faithful This one was a tough one for me to find. I'm not sure how many of these are out there.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/Pop_018.JPG

Doctor Sleep proof Does anyone have a copy of the Doctor Sleep ARC or know if one exists? The in-house proof is below.

I've never seen nor heard of a Phantasia Press proof for Firestarter. I do have a proof for Stalking The Nightmare by Harlan Ellison with a King introduction published by Phantasia Press in 1982 which was just 2 years after they did Firestarter. So it seems possible that a proof exists. If one exists it will probably be discovered soon by neo_trinity.

The Mysterious Press limited of Cujo used the same text block as the Viking trade edition so I doubt they had any reason to do a proof.

I only have the Doctor Sleep proof from CD that you do. I haven't seen any other variant.

Nice photos!

Thanks for the information and the kind words! The Phantasia Press Stalking the Nightmare proof sounds pretty cool. I agree, the existence of the Stalking the Nightmare makes you think maybe a Firestarter is out there and if it does exist, neo_trinity will find it or knows the answer as to its existence. Good point on the Cujo and I doubt another variant of Doctor Sleep exists. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and that Santa was good to you!

I am not a collector of CD proofs but I appreciate that other collectors like them, and I'm impressed by your collection. Very nice! And I learned something about myself from your post - I realize that I'm collecting US proofs from specific publishers and have no interest in others (I always thought of my 'selection' as being defined by certain years of publication). In my case they are Doubleday, Viking and Putnam.

Like so many here, it's fun to spend time reading through different threads. In the process of scrolling through posts, I found myself frequently returning to Dick Olson's and Rachel Readman's threads--I think they are both enormously talented individuals and I greatly appreciate their work. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to pick up a signed 1st/1st of both Carrie and The Stand from a member here. I wanted to display them in a special way, so I approached both Dick and Rachel and asked if they would be willing to put together something for me. Fortunately, they both agreed! Dick did his usual outstanding job in creating a true "showcase" for me to display my books and Rachel painted two beautiful oil paintings to complement the cases. I asked Rachel if she would be willing to set forth in oil her vision of Carrie at the prom for "Carrie." As for "The Stand", I asked if she would create her vision of Trashcan Man since he is one of my favorite and most memorable characters from the book. Their work arrived a few days before Christmas. Needless to say, they both delivered:

I have had my eye on this item since I first saw Matt (lotguy) list this item at Bett's for a very, high price, but it was out of my range and my guess as to its value. I've always liked the story behind how the New Lieutenant's Rap was released and have wanted a proof, signed or unsigned, since I first became aware of the existence of the chapbook. Matt continued to lower the price, but not to a level I was comfortable paying. Fortunately, he listed it on eBay as a reserve auction and that helped me better gauge it's value. A few days later, a deal was struck and I was fortunate to add an extremely limited piece to my collection. It's also nice to have some providence regarding the signing with a board member or two being present while Matt got it signed. Cool things come in small packages! Hopefully, the signed version of proof no. 13/24 will reside in Waco, Texas, for a very long time.

Yes, my girlfriend, Stacey, and I drove up for the event, but did not get VIP tickets so we sat in the middle of the pack and didn't get to attend the pre-event cocktail party which I would have loved to attend. However, we each did get a signed copy of the book although they were just passed out as we left and we did not get to meet King. A friend of mine who introduced me to the site, texgunslinger (Ben) did attend the VIP pre-party and loved it. He is no longer active on the site. By chance, if you went to the cocktail party, did you meet him? He was with a local lawyer named Matt. Let's talk soon!

Wow! What a small world. I wish I had been as involved with the site and had the opportunity to meet everyone in person. As you can see, I didn't formally join the site as a member until November of 2014, although I had been lurking around. Ben is a great guy and with three young kids decided to take a break from collecting. He generously sold me quite a few things from his collection a while ago. Matt has never been an avid collector like Ben; however, is interested in King. As I recall, Matt had just returned from a business trip to Maine shortly before the Dallas event and got to take the King tour while he was there. How cool that you guys got to sit next to each other. Next time I run into either of them, I'll let them know we have virtually met. I believe they got pictures with King and remember seeing the photos. I also would have loved to have met Bev and ICryForOy, too. Any good stories to share from your interaction with King? By the way, Sic 'em Bears! I went home early to catch the Baylor bowl game. Good luck tomorrow night when the Aggies play Louisville.

From what I can tell, finding a set of the NLR with the signed chapbook, envelope, necklace, box with bow, quiz and signed TGWLTG is really, really tough--they just don't seem to get offered for sale very often. Fortunately, a kind member of this forum (isn't that how all the best deals around here usually get made) presented me with the opportunity late this summer to acquire this set. Typically, if I am offered something King related that I don't have AND I can swing it, I'll jump because I know rare items don't become available every day. Every time I have passed, IF I ever see the item again it's more expensive or not in as nice of a condition. The reason I jumped on the signed NLR proof posted earlier is because I thought it would complement this set nicely and make a great display in my bookcase. Below is the picture of the NLR set with my newly acquired signed proof.

Very nice Jeff. You sure don't mess around. Congratulations!

Thank you guys for the great comments! No more super rare items to post until I stumble across something else or get offered another "hard to say no" opportunity. As far as King items, there are a few more items to post like my meager King related "art" collection--no originals, just portfolios or prints. Also, some signed King books, but all generally from more recent signings. Putting together a collection thread has been a lot of fun and certainly makes me feels like a more active and involved member. I think I need to focus on my collecting goals for 2016 and beyond--growing my King proof collection is certainly at the top of the list--specifically completing the Dark Tower proofs and the Viking and H&S IT proofs. As far as signed limiteds a Lettered Regulators and a Dark Tower II S/L Audio book--super hard for me to find. I also think finding signed 1st/1st of the remaining Doubleday books I need (Salem's Lot, The Shining, and Night Shift). I was simply blown away by Johnny007's "Salem's Lot" reveal of his signed 1st/1sts of ALL three dust jackets--unless I win the lottery, the 1st state is well out of my league. I'd also like to find a real copy of a pristine signed IT--they all seem to be fake on eBay. I'm curious as to everyone's collecting goals for 2016, maybe someone will start a thread. Happy New Year!

As I mentioned above, just about the last items I have to post are a few art related items. Like Tim and Kris, I really like Michael Whelan's Dark Tower art and would love to own a piece or two, but 1) it's justifiably pricey and 2) I got into collecting King because of his work and have to limit my focus somewhat or I'll go broke. However, never say never!

Dark Tower Michael Whelan Artist Prints with remarques A very nice man owned these before me and I was fortunate enough to persuade him to sell me his Artist's Proof set all number 7. He still has one more he wanted to hang onto to(Legends: The Gunslinger), but maybe someday I'll be lucky enough to add it to the rest of them. I really love how each of the Artist Print's also has an original Whelan remarque. As anyone knows that has Whelan Dark Tower material displayed, especially The Crimson King, it always gets lots of comments.

Very nice Jeff. It's funny, at the time I bought my set of these prints I asked Audrey if by some remote chance they still had #7 as it's my number of choice for most things numbered. Ended up getting something that added up to 19. Anyway, they look good framed. Congrats.

Thanks, Paul! I imagine no. 7 had been sold to the gentleman I purchased them from. I hope to complete the AP set someday and acquire the last no. 7. Did you get set 19 or different numbers and they added up to that magical number? If we were close and my set wasn't incomplete, I'd be happy to work something out. I appreciate the kind words. I got #469 which adds up to 19. I bought them years after the release, so most of the numbers were gone by then. So the best we could figure out was this number. Happy New Year to you! Let's hope 2016 doesn't break the bank like 2015 did...

Hey, guys! Thanks for the great comments about the artwork! I really like how it jazzs up the room. I'd love to own more, but it is hard to know where to draw the line. I think my priority is books first, then art (if I can afford it!).

Kris, thanks for the kind words about the collection and the Rap! The 1) Rap collection, along with the signed Rap proof I purchased from lotguy, 2) the Dark Tower no. 445 S/L set, 3) the Red numbered Salem's Lot, 4) the red numbered EOTD inscribed to Don Grant; and, 5) my IT collection are the "pride and joy" of my collection--although not necessarily in that Order--actually I'd hate to have to decide and it's hard to leave off my S/L The Stand no. 2! I love scrolling through everyone's collection threads and hope we all have a successful 2016 collecting year!!!

Also, the first purchase of 2016 is an inscribed 1st/1st Danse Macabre I picked up in a Heritage Auction. I was really pleased with the condition of the book and dust jacket:

very nice copy !
how was your experience with HA ?

Thanks! Everything went smoothly with HA as far as their shipping being timely and the book being carefully packaged. However, the buyer premium of $65.00, a "service and handling" fee of 17.95 and then sales tax of nearly $30.00 added in excess of $110.00 to the "Hammer" price. Fortunately, the Hammer price was reasonable or the cost with the "extras" would almost be prohibitive. I can only imagine how bad the "extras" might be on a high priced item. Yikes!

In addition to trying to manage the day job and keep my eye on eBay and the darktower.org, I have added a few things in the past couple of weeks. Additionally, I also got to spend 30 minutes yesterday with jsmcmullen92 (Josh) when I went down to Austin on business. Josh is a really great guy, easy to get along with, and we worked out a deal on a Whelan print he had that I wanted to give a new home. Fortunately, he agreed to let it go. In my opinion, the best thing I added so far this year was new friend through the dtower.org that only lives a little more than an hour away. What a great site!

Here is the Whelan Firestarter print picked up from Josh by way of AKC:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/0203.JPG

I also picked up the King signed Insomnia Portfolio 95/400 from Foster (truenorth) during his recent sale:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/00312.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/00517.JPG

The S/L of Postscripts 10 from PS Publishing numbered 84/200 and slip-cased was recently for sale on eBay at a reasonable price and I jumped on it. When I was comparing the S/L of 300 which is not slip-cased with the one numbered out of 200, I noticed that none of the authors who signed on the limitation page were included in the S/L of 300. I guess Pete just left that page completely out of the non slip-cased version. Although many do not collect signed anthologies, I really like this one because there are not going to be too many signed limiteds down the road signed by both Stephen King and Joe Hill. I think there are just a few other than this one. Here's the book:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/01122.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/01217.JPG

Additionally, here is a more recent flat-signed copy of The Cell which is a tough one:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/0177.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/861/medium/01614.JPG

As I mentioned in the beginning of the thread, I am a big admirer of the work of John D. MacDonald, particularly the Travis McGee series. In fact, I discovered John D. MacDonald long after he was successful when he wrote the introduction to Night Shift which I read in high school. I then read the Travis McGee series while I was in college. I have the original paperbacks and some of the 1st printing hardbacks, but no proofs. Recently, I stumbled onto a small collection of John D. MacDonald proofs, the crown jewel of which was an uncorrected proof for "The Long Lavender Look," a Travis McGee book published in 1972--I had to share:

Great haul! Also, nice observation re Postscripts 10 limitation page. I checked my own copy (signed / un-numbered) and it seems the limitation page also includes all the artists signatures. Would be good to update the Postcards S/L index with that delineation (signed numbered /200 is artists + authors).

I love the Firestarter cover too. I recently received a replacement rolled (unfolded) dust jacket for the signed limited and thought about having it framed, but when this came available I decided to try and acquire it. Now, I can put the new dust jacket on my book.

Thanks for the great note! I went and looked at the Postcards 10 S/L index page and you are right that it only mentions the slipcase and ribbon as the distinguishing factors, but it is true that the artists signatures are not in the unnumbered edition. On the other hand, it does state it plainly on the limitation page; however, I have never paid attention to it before I acquired the slipcased version.

Appreciate the comment, Jon. I did jump on them fast, mainly because I was aware how tough a few of them are to find. It's difficult to let that much money go, but I didn't think I'd have the chance to find these all in one place for a fair price. Purchasing them individually would probably have been more expensive. Time to keep the wallet in the pocket for now. A few more cool items to post that came in today as well, but after that should be a little hiatus in the jcmanske collection thread.

Those are great! I wondered who grabbed those so fast.
Thanks, Dan. I wondered if they would have sold quickly as a lot if I hadn't jumped on them. I'm very happy to have them and AKC's book packing skills are "master class." Also, he is extremely fair and easy to work with.

I recently had the opportunity to acquire some really cool Cemetery Dance unbound (Color) "final" proofs. While I was familiar with the Cemetery Dance unbound (b&w) proofs which were distributed along with the "Stephen King Grab Bags," I had not seen any of these before. I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts and am thrilled to own these apparently very unusual and rare, unbound, color proofs. I really like that they have comments and notes from the editors, as well as sticky notes with comments. The proofs are from Full Dark, No Stars, Carrie and IT. Really happy about these:

Thanks, guys! I got very lucky on these. I appreciate your comments.

Thanks, Dan. Everyone's collection here is so amazing. I started slowly going through the Pride & Joy thread from the beginning to the end and am overwhelmed with what I saw. I know the feeling.

Thanks, John! Out of the unbound color proofs, the IT is by far my favorite, although I don't plan on letting go of any them. Now, if I can just find one of the b & w IT unbound proofs.

My newest acquisition is a copy of the My Pretty Pony manuscript which was provided by the publisher, along with photos, to George Beahm. I really like the hand written letter on Whitney Museum of American Art letterhead and dated January 3, 1989, about nine months prior to the September 26, 1989 publication date. Seems like a really cool, pre publication piece to me. I also like the connection to George Beahm.

Thanks, Kris! No, that's one I don't have. I'd like to have one, but they are a bit pricey.

That's really cool. Congratulations Jeff.

Thanks, Jon. I appreciate the note. You've been adding some pretty cools items yourself.

Nice Jeff. Congratulations!

Thanks, Paul. Hope you received my response to your message. I'm happy to help.

Thanks, Bob! It was another one of those items buried deep on David's page from Chris's collection. Sometimes the description doesn't do the item justice. Once I saw the pictures, I was sold.

I recently acquired this from a gentleman in England who signed up as a "Legacy" subscriber to Hill House publications just as they were preparing the super-deluxe edition of American Gods by Neil Gaiman, with the wooden box, marble door etc. Shortly thereafter, Hill House ceased business activity and in lieu of future obligations, the gentleman in England received the manuscript below, as well as other items, from the owner of Hill House. By happenstance and being in the right place at the right time, I acquired the apparent "one of a kind" manuscript which just made it's way safely across the pond to Waco, Texas. Now, if I can just acquire that elusive signature on this item ;) Here are a few pics:

Recently had the opportunity to acquire some UK proofs. As everyone knows, they can be pretty tough to find. I feel very fortunate to have picked up the extremely limited, light blue, Hearts in Atlantis proof--they do not seem to come up for sale very often. It also appears that the UK Joe Hill Fireman proof will be a difficult find. I picked this one from a bookseller in Ireland who informed me his sales rep told him that Gollancz produced "less than 100" of the UK proof. Interestingly, he also relayed that the sale rep said Gollancz is to release a signed, hardcover proof in extremely limited quantities. Of course, that is just a rumor and I haven't seen any other information about that one--would love to have it if it is true! Here's pics of the new proofs:
