Sadly, no. My earliest 1/1 is the IT. I actually took some pics of it today as it is in better condition than i thought. May post them and get your opinions as I'm still pretty green at grading.

Would like to get some opinions on condition/grading. I'm still pretty green and everyone seems to have different standards. Guess I'm hoping for
a ballpark consensus. Preferably a Fenway Park consensus...... :)

Nice stuff. What's your favorite King book?

Cwalker
07-20-2015, 03:54 PM
My favorite book is generally whichever one I'm reading at the time. ( lame, i know but it's honest). In the living room i am presently re-reading Skeleton Crew. (love "Mrs. Todd's Shortcut" and "Survival Type"). In the bedroom I'm re-reading 11/22/63. I am also having a short affair with Donaldson's "Illearth War", but don't tell the others.

My all-time favorite King anything though would have to be The Long Walk. I've read it at least once a year, every year since i found it. Thirty, thirty-five times? Every time i see it like the perfect movie in my head. I've heard/read that Darabount (sp?) has talked about trying it. Him I would trust.

There is just something about the story that pulls me in even though I know what to expect. The characters engage me all over again though I know exactly who I am going to like and who I will hate. (dance on your gravvvesssss!!!!!!!).

the only other story to even come close would be Harlan Ellison's "A Boy And His Dog". That story helped convince me to become a Military Police Working Dog Handler.

I posted a picture of what your wife might have been looking at all those years ago. A black and white proof photo of the UK dustjacket. Posted in the Welcome To The Corner and Old-Timers Inquiry thread. Did you see that and, if so, did you ask her if that might be what she was looking at?

Cwalker
07-20-2015, 05:17 PM
I did show her and she admits that after 37 or so years her memory of that less-than-a-minute glance isn't what it used to be. She just remembers Stephen being pretty excited by whatever his decision was. It may end up being one of those Lost to the Ages moments.

Thanks for trying though...

Chris

Right now the vast majority of my collection, the 1/1st's are in storage while we do the home-health care thing. We have a nice room in the gents house, but not alot of space. Besides, for the most part I think everyone has seen Misery or Dreamscape. I will certainly put up pics of unique, or just a little nicer than average. I recently picked up a couple of Gabaldon books from Easton Press for the wife, and a copy of Explorer's Guild signed by Baird, Ross and Costner. (yes, that Kevin Costner. :). It's a very cool edition remenisent of the "adventure" novels of the 40's. I will have a few more things soon as well.

Now, that being said, if people still want to see pics of the basic stuff, i will oblige, and once we are in a more permanent situation I will certainly post pics of the new environment!

Thanks for viewing, Bill. Your input is always welcome.

BTW... What do you think of Boston's new ace and closer?

You are correct. Unless there is a special story, or interesting facts about a standard trade 1st, there really is no need to post them.

Went to a local shop yesterday. Saw an item that I sorely needed for my core collection. Went back today and after the 20% holiday discount, store credit for an item i took with me, and the cash sale of another book at a different store down the street, I came home with a 1/1, F/F edition of Skeleton Crew for $35! This has the best DJ I personally have seen on a copy of SC. I have no doubt that there are better out there, but i would put this one up for the Pepsi challenge anytime.

Very Pleased!

one of the 7 or 8 reasons I love my wife today (every day it may be different reasons, but it always averages about 7) is that when i told her i was adding to my collection of King signatures, she didn't say a word. I will admit though that there was a small glint of relief in her eye when she saw what it was...

jeeez, it's like you guys have never seen one before! :)

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/774/medium/insomnia3.JPG

I gotta tell you though, when I contacted Tomas at stephenkingcollector.com about his book, he sent some pictures to make sure I was aware of the "damage" to the slipcase.
He took some real close up pics that made it look... well.... noticeable. for that price though I wasn't gonna pass it up.
On the spur of the moment, I contacted Ziesing Books to see if they perchance had any spare slipcases. They did, for an excellent price so I ordered one.
IF i had seen the "damage" first, I probably would not have ordered the new case. It is so minor that it seems hardly worth mentioning.
Point is though, Tomas DID mention it. First rate service, first rate packing, first rate guy. Look forward to working with him again.

On a side note, now that David is feeling better, I should have another nicety next week or so!

So I took a field trip down to Grant Publishing today and met Robert Weiner. Helluva nice guy with some great stories. As many of us are, he is on the fence as far as the direction of the DT movie, but is willing to give it a fair shake. :)

While I was there, I felt an unstoppable urge to spend some money, so may I present...

My wife Julie is making it too easy right now! We had a small windfall and she asked how hard would it be for me to spend $500 on books. Once I stopped laughing at the concept of spending $$$ on King books being in anyway difficult, I tried to make sure I at least got the best deals I could.

Did I mention the Sub Press Green Mile GE I have on order? :)

I came home to the UTD Slipcase that just arrived from Tomas @ SKCollector. Wonderful!!! Fast delivery, perfect condition. Thanks!
And to top it off, the Joe Hill Deluxe NOS4R2/Wraith. #37!!!! my first double digit S/L! I am blown away by the quality and feel of it.

next, I was in a second-hand shop and found this travel case...

That name looks familiar...and the case is heavy....could it be?

Yes! One more thing to check...

Thanks for the comments on the case. My final goal is to find a nice vintage luggage tag to print Rev Jacobs name on and hang from the handle.
I also got the exact same case, one size larger that would allow for the book to be viewed vertically on one side with space for some other trinket on the other. I thought it would look cool to find an old lightning rod top, or some other "electrical" dvice to put beside the book.

Still trying to decide how to incorporate a coyote skull I have being cleaned in a display with my Desperation GE......

This was Julie and I's weekend off for this month. She went to her national conference for Vantel Pearls in the Oyster and I went up the coast looking for books!
I will admit to wishing for more, but I can't be to disappointed with the following...

The Road - trade PB for a reading copy
Strange Maine - By far the best copy of this I have found.
Starmont Reader's Guide 16 "Stephen King" by Douglas E. Winter
Different Seasons 1/1. VG+ to NF (i guess, i still suck at grading)
Under The Dome 1/1. F/F (this one I'm sure of)
An Echo in the Bone 1/1. F/F The wife is a huge Diana Gabaldon fan.
Caretakers 1/1. Building up my collection of Tabby to match up with the CD editions.
Neverwhere 1/1. F/F Seemed foolish to pass up a first edtion Gaiman for this price
Silence of the Lambs 1/1 Same with this title. It has some spine lean but the DJ has no tears, just shelf wear.

All said and done, total spent was $51.

Oh yeah, also came home to a delivery of Wizard and Glass (Grant). My Grant Trade HC is complete!

Here are my two new Chadbourne remarques. The first one was my suggestion as, for me and my little phobias, this was one of the scariest moments of The Shining. The second one is just classic Glen Creepy. First class stuff as usual!

I hate yellowjackets (got stung twice this summer), but I do like that drawing of them.

Yeah, I don't remember exactly what, but something happened when i was about 2 years old that contributed to my....dislike....of them even today.

It took a snowy day and nowhere to go, but I finally got some pics up on my first post.
It was kinda fun to take them down and get them arranged.
Hope you like them, and there will be more soon! Promise. :)

Nice pictures, just noticed your quote, does Ford know you stole his hat? I mean, his fedora?

Big thanks to Dave at Betts for all he does, putting me one closer to a complete artist signed 1/1 set.

Thanks. I have had life interfere some so a few of the nicer items had to be sacrificed. I will update the original post as time allows.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can make it through the hard times and get some stuff back at a later date.

The hardest to replace would be the double signed Gwendys 1/1. Most of the others would be replaceable, just a bit pricier! 😢☺😢

Somehow I missed this collection thread. I just caught up. Great collection! That Firestarter is a beauty.

Thanks. Yeah, that one hurt. At least it went to a Tower member. Plus, i still have my signed Hodges Trilogy and the signed Outsider. Gonna take a pretty serious Bump In The Road to part with those. 🙂

Here's hoping for smooth sailing, my friend! I'd be hard pressed to get rid of those as well!

And I love the Dameron-signed DTIII. A full artists signed set would be very cool!

Yes, that is a 1/1 Outsider. Got real lucky on that part. There is a very small ding on one of the bottom corners, like many had, but i can live with that. Ordered a slipcase for it when they were announced, just waiting on that.
