Jim, please show some pictures of your collection. There's nothing to be ashamed of even if "it is pretty modest". We'd all love to see it.

Ditto. Would love to see anything and everything you got!
And don't worry; the Dark Tower series, as a whole, was never one of my favorites either. Solidarity, brother!

I've been meaning to document everything in pictures for sometime, so this just gives me a good excuse to finally get around to it. I'll start with the room, and then move on to some of my favorite individual pieces over the next while.

So, hi. I'm jim and I collect Stephen King:

I love the Harry Potter series and managed to collect the UK gift editions
http://i846.photobucket.com/albums/ab21/surly_pics/collection/11.%20potter_zps2aerbjlx.jpg

when the last book was released, she did a tour which I think only included 3 cities, of which Toronto was one. If I recall correctly, you needed to win the tickets somehow, but it was sponsored by the Globe & Mail (our national newspaper). I had a friend who worked there, and I was able to get a ticket. the ticket included a copy of the Canadian edition of Deathly Hallows which would be signed after a reading. I brought along the UK gift and swapped it in when I got up in line - no one seemed to care. I can't imagine there are more than a handful of this edition out there that are signed

i'll have to check my files, but I think there were only about 20 of these offered for sale in an auction held by ABC when Rose Red aired. The tray case is an aftermarket custom addition
http://i846.photobucket.com/albums/ab21/surly_pics/j_zpsifkpytlq.jpg
http://i846.photobucket.com/albums/ab21/surly_pics/k_zpsoas4y5z0.jpg

Really cool to see another one of these in the group.

yes... there were only 20 of them auctioned... in 2 lots of 10... I picked mine up in the first lot that was sold during the show's airing.

Nice slipcase... I just might have to get one of those made.... Dolso, calling Dolso.... is there a Dolso in the house?

Ridley Pearson was at the Texas Book Festival a several years ago, I was able to get him to autograph the script too.

http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj13/sir_boomme/My%20Book%20Collection/sk4-Lmt%20%20plus%20Eds/X3-RoseRedScript-Signthisistheonlyc.jpg

even snagged his nameplate from the table after he left ha ha.

That's a signed Carrie script beside the RoseRed script.

06-29-2015, 12:30 PM
I don't remember the exact numbers... but the first lot sold for around a 1000.00 each... and the second lot sold for about 200.00 to 300.00 more.
I have it written down at home.

Next is the Joe Hill shelf:

Joe is pretty generous with his signature, so every one of these has been signed
http://i846.photobucket.com/albums/ab21/surly_pics/collection/26.%20joe_zpshc9w8hbx.jpg

I've posted this one before, but it's one of my favorites in the whole collection. I made a donation to the READ FOR PIXELS fund raiser and in return, Joe wrote an original, hand-written, 200 word story just for me. I don't know that I can show the story but he mentions he might put it in his next collection.

Nah, didn’t mean to leave you with the impression that I’m embarrassed.
I’m really happy with it, but much of what I have has already been covered in other threads and it really is a modest size collection when I compare it to so many of the others that have been shared here. It’s only a couple of shelves and doesn’t include any of the wonderful items that I envy in other’s collections like rare appearances, foreign editions, early proofs, remarques, artist editions, gift editions, anniversary editions, promotional items, and so on.
I’m really glad you’re enjoying it. It’s a pretty good feeling to get such positive feedback from a community made up of the world’s leading collectors of King. I’ll post some more later.
Man you have like 3 holy grails of mine. lol Im jealous!!

Good evening Jim.
Thank you for your comments.
If I may make a suggestion with the Salem's Lot, I would have it framed exactly as it is. It's beauty is in the shown dimensions and every word of the script. It is so rare and original I would hesitate to change the dynamics.
Only my opinion, well done whatever you decide.

Since the new IT movie comes out today, I figure it would be a good time to share some new related art that I have (assuming I am able to post the picture).

Way back in '86 when Mr Giusti first read the manuscript for IT, he produced and presented an initial cover concept sketch to Viking press. This sketch lead directly to the creation of the original painting that was reproduced by Suntup for their IT cover print. From that original version, additional modifications were requested by the art director and the result was the final cover we all know and love.
Before sending the first (Suntup version) finished painting to the publisher, Mr. Giusti arranged for a high quality transparency copy, which took the photo company two days to reproduce. The finished painting was then sent to Viking and the transparency was kept for Mr. Giusti’s own personal files. Once Viking had the original, they requested changes such as removing the oil slick, removing the ripples in the water, changing the angle of the curb, making the claw larger and moving it more to the center of the grate. After those changes were made, the new, final work was hand delivered to Viking by Mr, Giusti’s agent. Because time was of the essence, no transparency was ever made of the final version. Neither the original (Suntup) version or the final cover version were ever returned to Mr. Giusti, so all that remains is the transparency of the original version that was so beautifully reproduced by Paul over at Suntup, and the concept sketch.

After more than three decades, here is that original sketch that was done back in 1986. The work measures 11 x 14, including the white edge. There are two comments from the art director written in pencil: one on the upper left-hand margin and one on the right. The actual drawing is 9 ½ x 6 ½ and is done in colored markers and ink and signed in the lower right-hand corner.
