So I guess I should post my collection since I've been lurking a while and chatting up my Buffy poster. I started reading SK when I was about 11 (circa 1994), starting with Cujo and picking up copies at random. A few years ago I decided to continue trying to get all his books in hardcover and after some searching online found this sight - isn't it funny all the people who have youtube videos of their mass market SK books.

Now for a while I have been grabbing first editions at thrift stores, library sales, etc. I am mainly building a reading library because I just don't have the money to devote to an all out mint collection with all the bells and whistles. Although after being on this site for a while I have gotten the itch and have started buying some limited and autographed copies (of other authors, I haven't wanted to devote the money required for SK stuff but I'm sure it won't be too long now). I think it's time to get started on my collection thread, and hopefully you guys can watch me build my collection and inspire me! :)

For right now I am collecting reading copies of first editions, and any interesting variations that I come across but I am really interested in turtleback editions, so I think I may start working on collecting those. They just appeal to me. :)

I'm working on pics right now. :beat:

Most of my Buffy stuff is long gone but I still have a few things. This is my favorite though (and def one of my very favorite collectibles). When I was maybe 15 or 16 I was really into Buffy (and David Boreanaz of course). There was a contest in YM magazine for a Buffy poster autographed by David Boreanaz. I sent in something like 17 entries. I basically used all the stamps in the house lol. But imagine my surprise when this beauty arrived in the mail. Unfortunately one corner was a little damaged from shipping but what are you gonna do? I think that a few of these were given out. I've never seen another though. I have the letter that came with it packed away, I'm glad I had the forethought to save it. But, that's it. My Buffy pride and joy. :)

Thanks! My husband and I have been having a SK movie marathon lately. :) We watched The Stand last. There's a lot of "M-O-O-N spells..." and "laws, yes!" going around our house. :)

Thanks! I'm working on it. lol My IT husband showed me various ways to embed pics, none of them working however until I gave up on the "easy" ways and just opened a photobucket account. lol

The SK stuffs. The top is my Dark Tower stuff. Next down and part of the one below (to 11/23/63) are my first editions (with my one ARC for Lisey's Story - I like the format of ARCs with firsts). Then are my related books and other editions.

Then the other assorted books. I need more shelves. :) I have a whole other bookshelf but its a disaster. Once it gets cleaned up I'll post that one.

My thrift store autograph finds. I picked up Lindbergh thinking it looked like an interesting read and was checking which edition and noticed that it's autographed. Needless to say I bought it, that was $1 well spent. :)

I enjoy watching the show Bones. It's not a great show and the acting isn't spectacular, but I enjoy learning about the science involved so I started picking up Kathy Reichs books thinking I'd probably read them one day. I found this autographed copy in a thrift store for $5.

I've picked up a few autographed local releases at the thrift store.

http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag95/meaganjohnson/ThriftStoreAuto4_zpsrbhzcndf.jpg

The autograph on this last one looks nothing like the author's name, so I'm not sure. But it looked like it may be an interesting read so I figured for .50 it was worth it, autographed or not. :)

I really like Dexter and have started picking up autographed first editions. It'll be a relatively easy set to finish for both the US and UK releases and the only expensive one is the first book.

The autographs don't match really that well. But I bought them both from the same seller on Abebooks, who had good feedback, so I don't know.

This copy of Interview With the Vampire was the second autographed book I ever got. This one was a gift from my parents for Christmas one year. Not really worth much monetarily, but pretty special to me. :)

These are special to me because they are by my cousin's uncle, John S. Crawford. These belonged to my grandmother but she recently gave them to my dad who gave them to me because he knew I'd enjoy them. Unfortunately they aren't in great shape, but sentimental additions nonetheless.

The portfolio for some of his work. He was a bit of a hermit in Alaska I guess, photographing wildlife and writing about it.

http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag95/meaganjohnson/JSC5_zpsmrabbohh.jpg

Lastly, a limited collection which includes some of his work. When I first got this I opened it up to see if it was signed or numbered...

http://i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag95/meaganjohnson/JSC1_zpsujnjgcud.jpg

It took me a minute to realize that JSC#1 was John S. Crawford's copy. So that was pretty cool. This one is actually in pretty good shape with the only wear issues on the slipcase.

Thanks Tommy! I think my favorite villain was Angel when he turned. It was great how everyone was so shocked at how cold blooded he was. lol Druscilla was fun too just because she was such a space cadet. Balthazar was funny as well. How he had minions constantly pouring water on him to keep him lubricated. Ahhh, that show was great.

Yes it was! I loved it when Willow went evil and also Glory was pretty entertaining and Faith was great at being evil too but yeah, Dru was hilarious! I don't think a show has had so many fantastic villains as Buffy! Sorry, didn't mean to derail the pic uploading, please continue...

I'm sure everyone can tell that I have pretty eclectic tastes and read a variety of things. For the last autograph of the night, Mary Higgins Clark. I emailed her and her secretary or assistant sent me an autographed bookplate which I thought was pretty cool. I need to try this more often! :)

I've really enjoyed looking through your new collection thread! I'm also a Buffy fan and have re-watched all 7 seasons numerous times over the years.

For me, the overall highlight of the show was the relationship between Buffy and Spike. How it evolved from wanting to kill eachother to, well... you know how that went. There were a few scenes that were just so touching, like when he took that beating from Glory, and Buffy pretended to be the Buffy Bot and kissed him to say thank you, and the look on his face when he realizes it wasn't the bot...

And Dexter, yeah... I never knew there were books. That show was one of my favorites. Loved it, except for the last season and the finale which I thought it was pretty bad. But overall an amazing show.

Look forward to seeing more of your collection as it progresses!

Thanks Zelig! It's been a few years since I've watched Buffy from start to finish but my 4 year old has been bugging me to watch it since I pulled the poster out the other day. So we have officially started it again. She's really into monsters and "scary" stuff. lol

I didn't care for the finale of Dexter either. My fave season was I think the 4th, the one with John Lithgow, he was so creepy! :)

I've been slacking again and just got here now. Very nice stuff! Let's see, CONTACT by Carl Sagan. I loved that book and the movie but it didn't get much praise from anyone. I'm another Buffy fan of course, and one of these days I'm gonna' watch the whole thing again. (Fantastic poster). I actually liked the final episode of Dexter and of course the entire show. I never read the books though and it was a thrill to see them here. I also watch BONES as they come out on DVD (can't stand watching ANYTHING on commercial or cable TV with the exception of the Oscars once a year). And you're another fan of WOOL. I keep hearing how good these are...one of these days...

I recently bought (expensive!) the Sarah Michelle Geller autographed trading card. (One of two versions). That's the closest I can come to your Boreanz auto. I also have the Hannigan autographed card (even more expensive!) from some years ago.

Keep posting pictures!

I haven't read Contact yet. I actually just picked it up from the library book sale last week for $1. But I enjoyed the movie so I thought it might be interesting. :) Now after I've reflected on the final season of Dexter I kind of get the finale. But I wish he would have gone with his kid or at least sent him with his siblings. That's just the mom in me I guess. lol The Dexter books are good reads, although I think it would have been better to read them before watching the show. I don't have cable so I'm with ya on watching dvds, thankfully I have a pretty decent dvd collection. :)

YES!! Wool was great! but I'm partial to post apocalyptic/ dystopian fiction so I may be biased. I checked the omnibus out from the library and couldn't put it down.

That's interesting that Alyson Hannigan's auto card was more expensive. But I guess her career has done a bit better than SMG since Buffy ended. I never got any of the autographed cards, but I do have Alyson Hannigan's autograph on a VHS copy of My Stepmother Is An Alien. :cool2:

I was super stoked to find Prince Lestat because I didn't get a chance to check Target for over a week after it was released. It was the last copy there. Does anyone know if there's a place to keep track of when autographed copies will be released at Target? I'd like to try to be more on top of these things so I don't miss out so much.

I organized another couple shelves today. Some random stuff; classics, movie tie-ins, true crime (I'm a sucker for these paperbacks), some sci-fi and a bunch of other random stuff. Oh and I like to pick up Sherlock Holmes and Alfred Hitchcock books when I see them.

And something a little different. This book I got at an exhibit called Bodyworks. It's a really interesting travelling exhibit that has human remains preserved in a such a way that allows different systems and parts to be displayed in educational ways. It was pretty cool to see like the nervous system or circulatory system suspended exactly as they would be inside your body.

Also, if you have a Books-a-Million store nearby, they usually carry signed books. I even saw the Dean Koontz and Anne Rice books there, along with others. Got to hit a couple thrift stores and a used book store today. I'm one happy lady! :) Picked up some interesting looking additions and a couple SK things I didn't have yet. All in all, not too shabby. Has anyone read any of Charlaine Harris' work? I was into True Blood a while back. I kind of lost interest with the show but I thought the books might be interesting, if I ever get a chance to read them.

First up, some random stuff. I think I'm most excited about the zombie anthology The New Dead.

Thanks for the info. You are right, no price. Honestly I don't mind BCEs when they are different. I just like to pick up different variations. Nice books!

I have read most of the Charlaine Harris--True Blood books. Initially, I really liked them. Vampires, shape-shifters, fairies, and a telepath...what's not to love?! In the later books, I started to get annoyed with Sookie's character (around book 10 or 11). I think I only have 2 left though, so I might stick it out. The early ones are definitely worth checking out for a fast, fun, frivolous read!

YEP! I actually checked it out from the library a while back to see what all the fuss was about and couldn't put it down. So incredibly well written. This one is a 2nd or 3rd printing but I figured for $1 it was worth it to have a reading copy in my little home library should I want to read it again. :)

I initially picked up True Blood at a book sale, and I figured that I'd try it out for $.50 and see what they are all about. It was entertaining, so I kept collecting them. Like I said, I'm getting to the end, and I'm starting to get annoyed, but I was completed enthralled for the first 8-9 books. Besides, if you are inclined, you can tear through them in 1-2 days. So I just finished reading The Gunslinger for the first time (I know, but better late than never). And what the heck? Who knew he could write like that?!? I find his books entertaining and suspenseful but that is the first one of his books that has just blown me away stylistically. Perhaps it's because right before that I read Cell which I thought was a pretty weak example of his work (probably my least enjoyed book of his so far). I certainly hope the rest of the series stands up to the bar he set with The Gunslinger.

I actually liked the ending to Cell. It was kind of abrupt but I like how he left it hanging. I expected more right when I finished reading it, but the more I thought about it the better it seemed, which I suppose is the mark of a good ending? To leave you pondering? Either way, The Gunslinger was great. ;)

And my first Tim Lebbon. I keep seeing people on here seem to like him, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm a little bummed though because the seller shipped it in a padded envelope and the corners and spine got bumped. I am undecided on whether I should complain to the seller because it was only $10 shipped. At least I wont feel bad about reading it (I get a little rough with my books when I read them). lol

Yeah, makes sense... I have a hard time not seeing the movie or TV version of a book, when I'm reading the book. I can't disconnect from it... which is why I try mostly to read the book first, before watching an adaptation of it. But I guess every case is different. I've never read Forrest Gump by Winston Groom, but I just can't see how it can be better than the movie. Not that it has to be I guess, but the movie is such a brilliant movie, and I wouldn't want to spoil anything by reading that book. I got off topic there...

Yeah, The Happening is one of my faves (SOOO stinking creepy when people start walking backwards, off of buildings, into the lion's cage, etc.) Shyamalan made some GREAT movies, Signs scares me as well but I have a thing about aliens. lol I think the last thing I saw of his was something about the devil in the elevator, but I found it to be pretty boring. So I def do know what you mean.

Mark Wahlberg is really good to his fans from what I've read. I had read that he will sign through the mail, but only one thing per fan. I sent a pic as well but all he sent back was my BR cover, which is what I wanted the most. :) I enjoy requesting autographs through the mail, it's been hit or miss, but those days that I go to the mailbox and find a return envelope are so great! :) and its relatively cheap, (I send SASEs with my request), so a couple envelopes and stamps. Not too shabby!

I would give the other books a try. I started the series way before the show came out and really enjoyed the first season the best since it was most like the book. I guess it really depends on what you started first. I hated the ending to the series and felt it was so un-Dexter (especially since the book series is not finished and so many of the characters in the books are not dead like in the show). I can only see Dexter as Michael C. Hall though - he is awesome!

I may try them at some point. I watched 5 seasons of Dexter in 5 days. Then finished the rest at some point after that. It was pretty intense after the 5th season and I needed a breather. I watched the complete show before I read the 1st book, and just had a hard time separating the two in my mind. I loved the show, but I also feel the finale was a major let down. And I also agree that Michael C. Hall was perfect for the role. Oh, and I was mad about Debra Morgan.
