This is a hard choice as I think they are all equal.

Well, these are getting harder now that we're in the third round. I'm going with Spaceballs and Raising Arizona.

Only two here as well... Princess and Back to the Future. I am really surprised how much of that over the top silly comedy is making it through...

I'm having a hard time with this one. If this was a Greatest Movie of All Time tournament, I'd immediately go for Back to the Future and The Princess Bride. But, I don't really put them into Great Comedy category. Spaceballs is one of those movies I watch when I want to laugh. BTTF and Princess Bride are just all around great movies. I've really got to think on this one. :orely:

This is kind of a big deal.

Spaceballs is probably top 5 for me all time. So that was an easy choice. I debated between The Princess Bride and BTTF though. Went with BTTF.

The one where Michael J Fox is trying to get banged by his mom, which would suck since Lea Thompson was very attractive back in '85.

Umm... no?

In this tourney alone I've seen over half the nominations although there are a handful that I don't remember all that well.

There were 40 or so that I'd never heard of but they've all been eliminated already. The majority went out in the first round. So either I'm not alone among the people voting in never having seen them or they weren't that good.

Actually, Lea Thompson is still pretty attractive.

I think PB is one of the funniest movies of all time. I would definitely say it belongs - anybody want a peanut? Classic!

This is closing in two days, so get your votes in! Back to the Future and The Princess Bride are tied for second, and we could use more votes for Raising Arizona, to be honest.

Interesting that you would note that, since I remember a lengthy debate about whether or not BTTF was a Sci-fi or not in the sci-fi movie competition. Seems like it was deemed not a sci-fi movie in that debate, now in the comedy competition, it seems its not a comedy. I guess it is just a movie. Maybe we should have put it in the horror genre.

Seems like it was deemed not a sci-fi movie in that debate, now in the comedy competition, it seems its not a comedy. I guess it is just a movie. Maybe we should have put it in the horror genre.I don't think he was saying that at all; nobody disputes that Spaceballs is a comedy. There was also a "no spoofs" rule introduced early in the sci-fi tourney, and I'm nearly positive that the foremost title everybody was thinking of that rule for was in fact Spaceballs precisely.

Anyroad, tho, I must say for my own part that the main genre of BTTF is Adventure. It uses elements of Comedy, Action, and Science Fiction, and therefore can also be classed technically among those respective genres, but it's not a great action film, really; it's not truly good science fiction; the comedy is not there for the sake of comedy. A work can do many things at once, but it is hard to do them all very well. In the end, BTTF is one of the greatest adventures ever. You think a bit, you laugh a little, yet it's the thrills that really stand out.
