Hi!! Here's a link to my King collection on Facebook, where I have an individual photo of each item. If this doesn't work, I'll try to post photos directly. . . .

Thank you!! I also have huge collections of Joe Hill, Dean Koontz, Robert McCammon, Dan Simmons, F. Paul Wilson, Clive Barker etc. etc. I'd imagine these are mostly off-topic but if anyone is interested I'll happily add links to those collections too . . .

Oh, and here's my home library:

Noah,
Always love new collection threads.
Unfortunately I don't have a Facebook account, would you be willing to post a few pics of your collection?

jonp

Yes, I would love to see some photos also. As above I'm not on Facebook either.

NoahM

Hey Cook~
Thanks! Sure. The Facebook pics are individual shots of every item. I'll take some in situ photos of the collection on the shelves for you later, but you won't be able to see the thinner items such as magazines and digest issues. . .I'd try to add individual item photos here, but there are over 600 and the undertaking is just too daunting right now!

I'll get to those photos in a bit. Thanks again!!!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!! I've been collecting since the mid-80s. Found this site a few years ago but I've never done message boards before and had no idea how to post! I was a member of SKEMERs going all the way back to 1996 or so. That was easy :-) This is hard! Just tried to post some photos but it doesn't look like it worked. Ugh! Frustrating!!! Sorry everyone. . .I'll try again soon~

NoahM

Seems like I can't just upload a photo from "My Photos" on the computer - -- there needs to be a URL - no idea how to do this. Sorry. . .I'm over 40 and anything more advanced than Atari 2600 is foreign to me. If any computer-savvy member wants to give me a quick tutorial, I'll be happy to try again with the photos!

Photos need to be hosted by a 3rd party (imageshak, photobucket...many to choose from), or uploaded to our Gallery. Here's a quickie:
Pictures or non-TDT.com (http://non-TDT.com) smilies
You have a few options here depending on the picture source. First of all, you can't add a pic that's stored directly on your computer. You'll need to open an online account (i.e., www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) or www.imageshack.com (http://www.imageshack.com)) or import them into your gallery here on TDT.com (http://TDT.com) to include them in a post.

If your picture is included on a web page (including those here in your TDT.com (http://TDT.com) gallery), you'll need to find the url for the picture/image source. By that I mean that if it's on a web page to go to the source of the picture itself - not the web page that includes it.

You can find it by right clicking on the picture in the web page and clicking Properties.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e73/gsvec/How%20To/imgstep1.jpg
Highlight the url from the picture Properties and copy it into a new window to confirm that it's just the pic. Some websites have restrictions and either redirect the window or won't allow you to access the source. This will also show you the true size of the picture itself.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e73/gsvec/How%20To/imgstep2.jpg
Once confirmed, copy the url as outlined above in the Links section but instead of using the "Insert Link" button, use the "Insert Image" button (it's the landscape-looking one highlighted below.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e73/gsvec/How%20To/IMG.jpg
You'll get a popup window just like when adding a link. Paste the url in the window and click OK. This adds image tags at the beginning and end of your url.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e73/gsvec/How%20To/imgstep3.jpg
You can also just paste the url directly into your post and manually add the image tags at the beginning and end: [ IMG] at the beginning and [ /IMG] at the end (you'll need to remove the spaces).

If you're using an image posted on Photobucket, they've already provided you with code that includes the image tags. Simply click on the IMG Code field, copy it, and paste it directly into your post. You'll get the same result as in the step above.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e73/gsvec/How%20To/imgstep4.jpg
One thing to remember about any pic you post is that if it's moved or renamed, it won't work any more. If you've created an online account with Photobucket or ImageShack or have uploaded pictures to your TDT.com (http://TDT.com) gallery, don't move them or give them new names after you've posted them! :D

The previous image was copied from your facebook page.
I right clicked on the full size image, chose "Copy image location", then posted here using the "Insert image" icon, then pasting the copied URL (control v is easy).
I'm in my 50's. If I can do it, you can too.

I should say that posting 600 individual images like the previous one can be a bit redundant. Try to focus on the rarer items, and clear shots of the bookshelves really help. Then people will spot something on your shelves and ask a question.

Man oh man, those library/room shots on your Facebook page are gorgeous. If you ever get really ambitious, I'd love to see a video tour of that room...I suspect the pictures don't even do it justice (and I'm trying to figure out how the room is laid out, but can't really piece those shots together very well). Beautiful collection...well done, sir.

Edit: I see now that you also have pages for a few of my favorites, Ed Gorman, Jack Ketchum, and Joe Lansdale...nice.

Needful Things - Thank you!!!

RC65 - Thanks!! I would love to do a video tour, but A) I don't have a video camera, and B) I wouldn't know how to upload a video even if I did. So sorry! Well, as you can see, the library is close to full. The plan is in 2017 to knock out a wall and build a 2-story addition to the library, with cathedral ceiling, spiral staircase and 2 floors of additional shelving! It's gonna be sick!! Will definitely post photos when it happens. . . thanks for liking the library!! Also, I love Ketchum & Gorman!! Have a fairly complete Ketchum collection. Gorman, I'm working on but it's far from complete. .. I have some good stuff though - check out my album on Facebook. Lansdale - I'm an absolute neophyte, and my JRL collection is tiny. It'll grow in time

Theli & Jonp - thanks!! Yes, that's the limited My Pretty Pony in the Booklab traycase. I'll add a close-up in a minute.

Jon10G - Thank you!!!

LOL! With every new book 500 books have to shift one spot to the right! I used to find that very annoying. I now leave gaps at the ends of the shelves.

Those plans you have for expanding the library sound very exciting.

I couldn't help notice that The Eyes of the Dragon limited is not beside the other Eyes of the Dragon books like you have the rest ordered.

I've considered placing the books in the way you have with all editions of each title together but ended up with sepatate sections like 1/1, S/L, etc. But it is nice to see them shelved the way you have them.

And I think I already said it but great collection again!

03-22-2015, 11:41 AM
Paul, you have to remember that the Eyes of the Dragon s/l (Philtrum Press) was issued years before the trade edition.

Noah, I just realized I have not commented on your fantastic collection. Big congratulations!

NoahM
03-22-2015, 03:04 PM
Michael - Yes! Adding a new book to the library is maddening! Sometimes it takes me an hour to move stuff all the way down!! BUT - good news is when the library addition is built, I plan on leaving SHELVES & SHELVES of space between writers, that way I'll have tons of room to add new books

Zelig - thanks!!! Yes, the reason that the S/L Eyes is where it is, is because it was published in '84, whereas the trade came out in '87. The text was significantly revised for the trade edition, which is why I think I left it apart from the S/L. . .but now that you mention it, I think I'm breaking my own pattern. . .perhaps I should move the US & UK trade up by the limited. Hmmm .. . .

John - Thanks, man!!!!

Needful Things - between Pet Sematary & Thinner is The Plant. Right up against PS is the signed/limited Plant, and then computer printouts of the revised online Parts 1 - 6 from when King originally issued them back in 2000 (I think). Also, sadly, no - the DT books are not matching numbers. I think I have matching numbers for 5, 6, 7 and Little Sisters - I'll have to go look to be sure, but definitely not matching numbers for 1, 2, 3, 4 and Wind.

Theli - Thanks!!!!

Just adding my congratulations on your wonderful collection. I really like the way that you present it as 'all books are equal' and keep each book title together. I'm not sure I could show that level of 'book humility' - I'm far too proud of my meagre limiteds and prefer them to be put together. :)

NoahM
03-23-2015, 05:02 AM
Hey, Stroppy. . .thank you!!! Ha ha. . .I don't know if it's book humility, or anal retentiveness! I order the books first by author and then chronologically by title. Ordering them based on monetary value, or all trades together and all limiteds together, would offend my sense of OCD. Heh.

Feel free to post what you like in your collection thread, but if you want maximum exposure to a sale item, I suggest putting it in the Collectible Classifieds thread. Most people reduce the price compared to that on ebay as the seller will not be charged the ebay fee. You may also request to be paid via paypal gift (and again not be charged by Paypal) but be advised this reduces the buyers rights if the sale goes wrong and as a (relatively) new member, some buyers may not have the same level of trust to warrant this. (no offence intended by the way - just letting you know what to expect :) )

Noah, when I first started on the forum I was also a little lost but once you get familiar with how everything is organized, it will be easy.

What I found really helped me was to just link directly to Calvin's Corner, and then you can see all the most recent/active threads on that page if you scroll down a little.

Of course, you should also browse around the other sections, but like biomieg says, Calvin's Corner is where a lot of collectors spend their time Here's a link (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/forumdisplay.php?9-Calvin-s-Corner).

Wait, you can limit which forums you want to monitor for your "Unread posts" button? LOL Crap I've been here for many years and didn't know you could do that. Is there a tutorial?

Racerx, Zelig, Merlin1958 - guys, thanks so much for the positive vibe and for the kind words. Most of the people with whom I've interacted here have been incredibly warm, kind, and welcoming. I'm not sure what that other nonsense was all about, but even if people disagreed with my selling prices, it probably could have been handled in a friendlier fashion. Oh, well. Onward & upward! Thanks again, all!

Agree brother. Private PM is the classy way to go. There is also a thread you can go to where the Experts can assess what you should ask. VERY helpful and then it is an open forum. Glad to have you!

Webstar - Thank you. These days, "fair market value" can easily be determined by looking at average sale prices on eBay, ABE, Bookfinder, and other such sites. Again, it's all about condition. . . sure you can find a 1st edition of The Shining for $20, but it's going to be a beat-up POS. I feel like my asking prices reflect both the scarcity and CONDITION of the books. . .and with that said, I will step back and allow this argument to die already!
Thanks again for being so cool!!!

I want that! Congrats :) I used to own most of the 'post-1967 pre-Carrie/college era stuff' except two of the four issues of Ubris, Marshroots and Maine, none of which I ever even saw for sale during my years of collecting, and although I'm not actively looking for those magazines anymore I really love seeing them pop up like this. Awesome!

Michael - Thanks so much!! Regarding the UMO-era stuff: I'm only missing 4 pieces now, other than issues of Maine Campus, which I'm not including since copies of this will almost certainly never circulate. The 4 I'm still looking for are 2 of the 4 issues of Ubris, Marshroots, and Contraband #1.
I've never seen any of these for sale, ever, but a number of people in this group own copies of both Marshroots and C1. No idea where they found them or how I missed them!
Regarding Maine magazine - I've only ever seen one copy of this for sale, and I bought it! No idea how many people have copies of Maine mag or Maine Review. They're both much less common than Onan, Moth, Io, etc.

Oh, thanks!! If you're on Facebook - look me up under the name Noah Mitchell - you'll LOVE my metal t-shirt collection. I have over 1000 rock/metal t-shirts. You can also check out my collection on TShirtSlayer.com - my user name is "NoahM" \m/

I used to own Contraband #1 and the two Ubris issues that you are missing. Sold them to a member here.

Bob (carlosdetweiller) on this site owns the full run of Maine Campus mags (except the ones containing the Slade installments, I believe) and AFAIK he also owns just about anything else that King wrote. As a new member of this website, it's absolutely mandatory that you check his collection thread and basically every post he wrote. Bob, Sir_Boomme and EXPLORER even own items from King's high school days (as early as 1963). I think it's safe to say that most of the world's largest King collectors are members here.

NoahM
03-26-2015, 12:15 PM
Michael - OHHHHHHHH!!!! You sold Contraband 1 and the 2 Ubrises to someone else!! BALLS!! Where was I??

Regarding Maine Campus - the ones with Slade are the only ones I'd want, as I really don't collect non-fiction unless it's book-length. I have photocopies of all of the Garbage Truck issues.

That's really impressive - I will check out those guys' collections, although I'm sure it'll make me cry! High-school era stuff! Oh my god!
People have the 2 Ubris issues I'm missing and Marshroots and C1 - where do they find them?? Oh - is there a place on this site where you can put your "want-list"? I'd love to put up my short want-list somewhere, and then if anyone wants to sell their Marshroots or Ubris issues, I won't miss out!

Just add it as your signature. It's in the settings when you're logged in. Click Settings, then Edit Signature on the left.

biomieg
03-26-2015, 12:27 PM
Go to 'Settings' (top right of the screen) and then find 'Edit signature' in the column on the left. There is a limit to the number of characters but you should be able to add a short want-list.

*edit: Paul beat me to it!

Don't worry, you're not alone. Bob's collection is what you might call a labor of love in my opinion. Not to say there aren't other collections out there that deserve praise, because there are, but you can't deny the fact that his collection is simply breathtaking. And there's a bunch of things you probably haven't even seen yet because he has posted numerous items over the years across a number of different threads. I don't remember if these were posted in his thread, but like this one (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?11779-Your-Favorite-Collectible-Items&p=580967&viewfull=1#post580967) for example.

Zelig - Okay, now that I've finished wiping all the drool off my keyboard. . .I'm starting think that Bob can't possibly be human. He's either some kind of superhero or a Book Demon out to torture us all. I mean, a 1st state Salem's Lot jacket? The asbestos Firestarter, okay, Comics Review?!? What the hell??!! I am a peon in comparison!! Sigh. . .

Webstar - Thank you for your compliment. . .clearly you haven't seen Bob's collection, but I appreciate the pat on the back! HA!! Anyway, sadly, no, I don't have any King-related artwork. I do have the framed original painting that came with the lettered edition of The Christmas Thingy (F. Paul Wilson), which I've hung up in my library, as well as the broadsheet "The Do-Gooder" by the same author, also hanging up in there. I do have 6 "Eddie" drawings inscribed to me by Derek Riggs (Iron Maiden), some of which are up in the library. BUT - as of now, my library is 95% shelves and almost no wall space. The plan is, in 2017, I'm going to knock out a wall and build a 2-story addition to the library - it will be a cathedral ceiling, with a widow's walk around the second-story shelves and a spiral staircase going up. Open space in the center for reading furniture. Once this happens, I'll have more room for artwork. . . .

Theli - those are copies of Ubris, a UMO literary magazine in which King published a number of original short stories in 1968 - 69.
The first one in the photo is Spring 1968, with the first appearances of "Here There By Tygers" and "Cain Rose Up."
The second one is Fall 1969, with "The Dark Man" and "Stud City."

Question: have you ever considered collecting proofs and advance reader's copies, stuff like that? Another question: how large is your library? It's hard to get an idea from the pics alone.

NoahM
04-13-2015, 09:50 AM
Hi, Biomieg,
You have to draw the line somewhere. I don't do proofs or ARCs. Only stuff that's actually published and offered for sale. I also don't do non-fiction for the most part unless it's book-length. If I collected all that, I'd need a library the size of a stadium.
My library at home is about 150 square feet? Maybe? Hard to say. It's almost full, so the plan is, in 2017, I'm going to knock down a wall and build a 2-story expansion, with a spiral staircase and widow's walk around the 2nd level. Going to be expensive as hell but SO nice when it's done!!

What's the story on that? Sorry I'm relatively new to collecting SK :)

NoahM

Hey Meagan! It's not a story, it's a recipe. This is a "horror-themed" cookbook, and King submits a recipe here for some kind of spaghetti-sauce covered hamburger. Sounds yummy! :-)

Thanks Noah! :) I meant what's the story behind the release? Was it some sort of charity thing? Who published it? Who else submitted recipes? :)

Meagan - sorry!! Yes, this was one of a number of charity publications done by Del Howison of Dark Delicacies. Others included The Altruistic Alphabet and Framed: A Gallery of Dark Delicacies (photos of these can be seen in my collection pages). TONS of other writers submitted recipes in this book. Jack Ketchum and F. Paul Wilson among many more.

Yep, that was the one I got! I also just found a lettered copy of the Infernal House WOMAN for $1200, which I'm placing on hold, since I just today spent about $3K on some other lettered editions!

Anyway, WOW - that's an amazingly accurate reproduction traycase! Are you using it to house your numbered copy??

Randall Flagg
05-14-2015, 12:54 PM
The custom case I have will hold a Lettered or a S/L in a slipcase.
I have a couple different hard copies, including a S/L that has the lettered limitation page, and a letter from the publisher. etc. Not at home to look right now to clarify.

NoahM
05-14-2015, 01:03 PM
Very nice!! I once had a carpenter recreate a Dark Harvest slipcrate for me for one of my lettered editions whose slipcrate was damaged beyond repair. He did an amazing job - I doubt even DH would be able to tell the difference!

Randall Flagg
05-15-2015, 05:13 AM
Looks like I have a s/l regular edition, a Lettered (II), and a S/L that has the red ink lettered limitation page bound in. It comes with a letter from the publisher, and a red slipcase.

NoahM
05-15-2015, 05:17 AM
Jerome - I also have the numbered and lettered editions. I've seen that other state with the tipped-in lettered page. Dave explained what that was once, and I've forgotten exactly. It was some kind of specialty item and I can't remember the details right now. I could drop him an e-mail & ask I suppose. . .

I was picturing, for $1500, a book bound in faux human skin, in a traycase shaped like a death's head moth or Lecter's mask or something, resting on a movable miniature dolly like the one that was used to move Hannibal when he was in his straight jacket. . .instead I paid $1500 for this:

Webstar - Thanks. . .yes, it was a massive disappointment. The lettered WOMAN cost less than $1500 and is an absolute knockout. When I think of stand-out lettered editions in my collection. . .The Peabody-Ozymandias Traveling Circus, Beastchild, Black Wind, The Woman. . .they're all incredibly unique and stunning visually. Silence of the Lambs would be disappointing even if it had cost $300. But $1500?!?
The only reason I'm going to hold onto it is because it's the only edition that Harris signed, and I don't have his signature anywhere else. Otherwise, I'd probably return it. I know for sure Sub Press still has copies of both states available for sale!

Yeah, I had the S/L in the queue to buy and happened to be reading Becca's thread on it (Silence is one of my fav books and movies) when I realized it was NOT signed.... So, I passed. I also passed on the lettered cause I felt hey were asking a lot of very basic book. BUT, you are right.. it is the only one signed by him out there.

Yes, I have to agreed there is nothing special about it. Nothing original, just a generic looking book.

EDIT: I would be very interested in seeing photo of your lettered Beastchild. I only have the numbered edition which is itself a beautiful book.

That's too bad... is there anything extra inside (besides a signature)?

Joe - oh GOD, what a massive disappointment that book is! Finest productions?? I was picturing, for $1500, a book bound in faux human skin, in a traycase shaped like a death's head moth or Lecter's mask or something, resting on a movable miniature dolly like the one that was used to move Hannibal when he was in his straight jacket. . .instead I paid $1500 for this:

Can't disagree with you there. It's nice, but not $1500 nice. Sounds like you should have been in charge of the production.

I can see how that would be rather annoying. 15 hundred bucks is a lot to drop on a relatively basic book. It is nifty that it's the only Harris signed limited/lettered edition, but not $1500 nifty.

Webstar - sigh. Yep.
Jon - yep, very generic. The lettered Beastchild is amazing - bound in real lizard skin, only 26 copies. Photo below.
Becca - nope, nothing inside, just a limitation page with the author's signature, which is cool but not $1500 cool. :-(
Joe - ha ha! Thanks! Wish I had been! :-)
Theli - you nailed it. Nifty but not that nifty. Ugh. .. .

That Beastchild is beautiful. Charnel House do some of the best limited editions. I'm lucky to have a few of their Dean Koontz's.
