This is a nicely diverse group. My six are: Dr. Strangelove, Death to Smoochy, Mr. Hulot's Holiday, Twins, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Police Academy.

Pretty surprising seeing Police Academy in the lead early on. It was panned during the nomination process.

Death to Smoochy is a greatly underrated gem.

I honestly didnt like it the first time I saw it, but was one of my best friend's favorites, and he made me watch it so many times that it began to grow on me.

I liked it well enough, I just thought a couple of the sequels were slightly better.

Dr. Strangelove; of course. One of the all-time greats
Army of Darkness. Well, not as good as Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn, but a vote for Bruce Campbell nonetheless.
Twins
Better Off Dead; I want my two dollars! Two dollars!
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. I preferred the first one, but Carrey just gives it all he's got, and I give him props for that.

The classics are the classics but When Nature Calls is just so completely nuts and nonstop hilarious with Jim at his ultimate peak.

You got it. Love Jim Carrey from that era, the first Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, and the aforementioned When Nature Calls, all classic comedies to me.

My favorite PA was Citizens on Patrol with Bobcat.

Like I said during nominations, the movies in this series all seem to blend together, especially since they all came out once a year.

Dodgeball is a fantastic comedy. So, so quotable. I've seen it a gazillion times and quote it on a regular basis. Stiller's White Goodman is a hilarious antagonist. And besides, all those hilarious ball puns lol.

"Oh, so now he's a philosophizer."

"Here at Globo Gym, we understand that 'ugliness' and 'fatness' are genetic disorders, much like baldness, and necrophilia!"

"He's ball less! He doesn't have any balls, Cotton!"

"It's time to put your mouth where our balls are."

"Oh I'm not as dumb as you think I thought I was once."

I dunno. I think there's good silly (Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls) and bad silly (Dodgeball).

I thought both were good silly, just that Ace is better silly! Bad silly is a Wayan's brothers movie.

Just not a lot of thought goes into a Wayan's bro's flick, the jokes all fall flat for me. Can't specify why for myself. I guess comedy can be a pretty personal thing.

Good silly is Harpo Marx, John Cleese, or John Belushi's samurai; you're talking about bad silly (Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls) and slightly less bad silly (Dodgeball.)

Jim Carrey was doing stand up/impersonations in the early '80's as well as the tv show, Duck Factory (1984) well before he was on In Living Color.

Plus he was always the best part of the show. Though I actually didn't mind In Living Colour, it's specifically their movies I can't stand.

I'm not a big fan of most Wayans movies, either, and I also did not mind "In Living Color," except for Jim Carrey's characters. He was totally the worst part to me, always, on there. I know it wasn't his real first work; again I was being facetious. I like about half of his movies; a few of them, I really love.

Sorry again. That was not meant as a complaint but as an apology. I felt I should explain when I realized that another joke was not clear. Anyhow, it was a turning point in his rise to fame.

Agreed that not many knew of him until his work on that show but disagree that he was discovered by them.

Close enough for government work. Everybody was saying they like Ace Ventura. Pablo then said that Dodgeball is not as good. Theli suggested a better example of stuff not as good comes from the Wayans,. And I opined that Ventura is just as bad as that. Most redeeming thing about Dodgeball for me is its blunt satire of typical sports movies.

SNL passed on Jim Carrey. Reportedly, Lorne Michaels wasn't at the addition.

Things worked out for the best, but it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he were on SNL instead of In Living Color. Personally, In Living Color suited his comedy better I think.
