I'm going with Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (surprisingly funny and non-stupid), Sixteen Candles, the great classics Annie Hall and The General, plus Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Bad Words.

I like most of Jason Bateman’s movies and the trailer looks pretty good but somehow I’ve never heard of Bad Words. I have no idea how this happened.

Not sure why Real Genius is getting votes

Real Genius is awesome. That is why I voted for it.

Best movie in the group is NL Vacation and should be in the top ten of this tourney.
Close second is Planes, Traines and Automobiles.
Also voted for Harold and Kumar and Sixteen Candles.

Annie Hall and The General are the best here, followed by P&T&A, I believe.

Bateman actually directed Bad Words too. His first time. It's actually pretty good.

I'm also going to out myself right now. Some people already know this about me, but I'm not a Woody Allen guy. I doubt Annie Hall will need my support anyway.

Not doing it for me, sorry. His best is Borat by far. And that's all. Bruno wasn't very funny either.

How is Annie Hall in danger of not moving on? It's one of the best comedies ever made.

I don't see how it sucks. It was very deserving of the oscars it recieved. Excellent film. "Just don't take any class that makes you read Beowulf" haha

Looks like Annie Hall will make it. Too bad it's the only Woody Allen film nominated. Why? One of his best fortunately will probably be in round two... isn't that appropriate enough? I could see wishing, if you doubt that Annie Hall is #1, that more had been nominated for whittling away in the first round, since other creators have multiple entries, but it seems to me that the ideal process would narrow the field to a best example of work from each pool (Woody Allen films, Mel Brooks films, Adam Sandler, etc.) and then make them face off against each other. What's the benefit of a competition that begins with smaller diversity and, as it goes, prefers titles for their similarity to each other rather than trying to weigh dissimilar choices?

Annie Hall does suck.

How anyone can say that film deserved to beat Star Wars for Best Picture at the Oscars, is straight talking out of their arse!!!

Annie Hall is as close to a masterpiece as a romantic comedy can get. And yes, it deserved to beat Star Wars for best picture. It very much deserved it.

Maybe if it involved an egregiously overweight family egregiously farting at a dinner table topped with an egregious amount of food, he'd find it funny.

That will make two of us then...I would rather hear fart jokes compared to what Woody Allen puts out there.

I would rather hear fart jokes compared to what Woody Allen puts out there. He has put a lot out there, writing comedy for 60 years. Seems kind of perfunctory to brush off every bit at once like that.

I have attempted to watch most of it and cannot name anything I've enjoyed. I suppose in this instance I am counter culture.
